Newegg's kicking off its Super Dad Father's Day sale today, basically with tech deals rolling right on up to Prime Day next week (who am I kidding? It's Prime Week not Prime Day). But why would anyone spend their money on tech right now, knowing there is the potential for bigger discounts in seven days as all the other retailers get in on Amazon's Prime Day fun?
Well, it's worth knowing what your options are, because Newegg is kicking off FantasTech Price Protection across a range of its deals going live in today's sale, running from June 15 to June 21. That means you can check out the deals now, safe in the knowledge that if its marked up with the price protection badge you'll automatically be refunded the difference if the same thing goes on sale for a lower price any time before June 28—which is the weekend after the Prime Days.
You can check out all the FantasTech Price Protection deals right here so if you do need to replace a part, or pick up a new machine today there is a level of protection there for you. What it's not going to help you with, however, is any kind of discount on anything you buy if it's discounted more heavily elsewhere.
Best Buy, on the other hand, does offer its own Price Match Guarantee. This can work before you purchase anything, where you contact Best Buy via a chat window and show off the competitor ad or product page and see if you can get it matched. Alternatively, if you see a product you've already bought for a cheaper price at a "Qualified Competitor" of Best Buy within the returns window of your purchase, it will refund the difference.
There are obviously caveats to this, with it only offered for identical product, and only new products not sold via third-party sellers. But also, from the list of competitors, Best Buy will not match products sold by Newegg at all.
What about Amazon? Maybe unsurprisingly, given Amazon's constantly fluctuating prices, it has no such protection to offer. It won't price match, and it won't guarantee any prices. But it is pretty uncomplicated if you want to return something after the fact, which means if you bought something today and the prices dropped next week, you could just return and rebuy at the lower price.
Personally... well, if I wasn't either shopping for something for my dad for Father's Day this weekend, or desperately needed to replace something broken this week, I'd probably still wait until Prime week kicks off in earnest from Monday June 22.
Just buying something you want, with a good discount at the point of sale, is about as uncomplicated as it gets, and there are no caveats or hoops to jump through to make sure you're getting the best price.
