At only $0.13/GB this Prime Day, this is the most affordable 1 TB SSD I've seen in an age

PNY CS2241 | PCIe 4.0 | 1 TB: was $159.99 now $135.99 at Amazon

If you want something reasonably priced (well, relative to our times of memory shortage) and a fair bit faster than a SATA SSD, this is a great option. It's still not the nippiest thing out there, but it's a fine place to store your Steam backlog.

Key specs: NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | 5,100 MB/s read | 3,200 MB/s write

I've been tracking SSD pricing for the past while now, seeing the highest highs and wishing for the lower lows of last year's prices. Unfortunately, in these times of memory supply crisis, you're simply not going to get a decent NVMe for less than $100. The good news is I've found a 1 TB SSD going for not much more than that.

The 1 TB version of the PNY CS2241 SSD is a great option if your Steam backlog is threatening to outgrow your gaming rig's current internal storage situation. It's not the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD out there, with a 5,100 MB/s read speed and a 3,200 MB/s write speed. But at only $136 this Amazon Prime Day, it's almost too good a deal to pass up.

That Prime Day price tag breaks down to only about $0.13 per GB. I'm always keeping an eye out for higher capacity drives at reasonable prices, but 1 TB SSDs continue to be the most cost-effective options right now. For instance, the Biwin Black Opal NV7400 is usually the budget superstar when it comes to our best SSD for gaming guide but, as that's sitting closer to $0.17 per GB on Amazon, this deal on the PNY easily outclasses it.

To be fair, the Biwin is a faster PCIe 4.0 SSD, with speeds of 7,400 MB/s on the read, and 6,500 MB/s on the write. But if you're not running your OS directly from the PNY CS2241 SSD, or you're otherwise using it to store files you don't need right-the-heck-now, it's still plenty fast.

This SSD also comes with a 5-year limited warranty (PNY offers more details here). With some saying the memory supply crisis could rage on for years, that definitely gives me some peace of mind.

This is easily the most affordable 1 TB NVMe SSD I would recommend right now. I'll be updating all the other October Prime Day SSD deals throughout the sales event, but trust me when I say $0.13 per GB is gonna be tough to beat.

Don't worry, though: If I do happen to stumble across a speedy SSD costing even less than this, I'll be shouting it from the rooftops.
