At only $0.12/GB, this is the best value 2 TB SSD I've seen all Prime Day
It's pretty quick at up to 7,100 MB/s, too.
This drive uses QLC memory and comes without DRAM cache, but it's still an impressively quick drive for the money, with strong sequential performance.
Key specs: NVMe | PCIe 4.0 | Up to 7,100 MB/s read | up to 6,000 MB/s write
Price check: Newegg $308.99
Alright, stop what you're doing because I've just been alerted to an actually decent SSD deal. Well, 'decent' requires some qualification given the memory supply crisis and all—we're not talking about 2 TB SSD going for last year's prices. Still, this is perhaps the best value 2 TB SSD deal I've come across during Amazon Prime Day.
I've been tracking the spiraling prices of SSDs for some time now, and over the last year the Crucial P310 has often been top of the list when it comes to prices approaching anything near reasonable.
Our Zak had plenty positive to say about the 1 TB version of this drive when he reviewed it, but today the 2 TB is what draws my attention—mainly because its sale price at Amazon breaks down to $0.12 per GB.
To be clear, that means you're still paying a smidge over $250 for a 2 TB SSD. However, the memory supply crisis has ensured that's the best SSD deal I've seen all week. I did say yesterday that if I found something better value than the PNY CS2241, I would be shouting it from the roof tops—so here we are.
If you're looking to expand your internal storage, this is a supremely cost-effective SSD to pick up. Better yet, it's also decently nippy with a 7,100 MB/s read and a 6,000 MB/s write speed. Your Steam backlog won't know what hit it.
That said, there are drawbacks to this SSD and the big fly in the ointment here is that this is a QLC drive with no DRAM cache. Bear with me as I break this down a bit: QLC can pack in more data at a lower cost in terms of both power and manufacturing, but it has lower write endurance than similar data storage tech like TLC, and it's quite slow once you get down to pure NAND speeds.
So, this drive is at a reasonable price point because it's QLC, but that also has some drawbacks. This 2 TB SSD has a 440 TBW, which should be fine for gaming (and less fine for anything more write heavy). If you're still not sure though, a five year warranty should offer some peace of mind.
