CD Projekt Red confirms it's working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion after accidentally leaking it on its own storefront

The prophecy has been fulfilled. After much speculation CD Projekt has finally confirmed that it is indeed working on a Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion, going even further to confirm its release window as well.

"Medallion's humming, which can only mean one thing," CD Projekt says in a blog post. "It's time to announce we're working on a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Get ready to return to the Path with Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt—Songs of the Past, coming in 2027."

I had to save myself from getting too sad that the release window is so far away, because a year in adult time isn't actually that long. Sure if this was 10 years ago it'd be like waiting decades for the expansion, but nowadays a year zips past in almost no time at all. I blame my laundry.

I'm just happy the DLC is finally confirmed, especially considering we weren't meant to find out about it today: "We originally planned to make this big reveal during our REDstreams tomorrow, but let's say we found something we didn't yet expect on RED Launcher." That unexpected find was actually leaked news of this very DLC. Some players woke up today to find the Songs of the Past announcement post appearing on their RED Launcher, obviously this then spread through the internet like wildfire.

It's a shame that this announcement couldn't make it just another day, but at least it didn't mess with CD's timeline too badly: "We’re currently co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory and we’ll share more in late summer, so stay tuned."

Alongside this new expansion CD also shared its plans to update its systems requirements "to ensure smooth performance and compatibility going forward" for Songs of the Past. "These requirements will become effective starting from the next update."
