Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 wins Best Game at the BAFTAs, but this time some other games got to win awards, too

It was another big awards show for French RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which beat out some very big names to claim the coveted Best Game award at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards. But it wasn't the big sweep we've seen in past events: The game was nominated in 10 categories but ultimately came away with just three wins, a haul matched by superhero adventure Dispatch—and it even gave one up to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Three BAFTA wins is absolutely nothing to sneeze at, especially when one of them is the Best Game biggie, but it does come up a little short when compared to Clair Obscur's domination of past awards shows. Sandfall Interactive's first-ever game won seven awards at the 2025 Golden Joysticks, matching the record set by Baldur's Gate 3, and then surpassed the master with nine wins at The Game Awards the following month. It followed that up with eight wins out of nine nominations at the Game Developers Choice Awards in January.

But Death Stranding 2 beat Clair Obscur out for Artistic Achievement, which frankly I'm a little iffy on, and it also lost out on Best Game Design to Blue Prince, which I think is actually very fair. Clair Obscur was also nominated for Best New Intellectual Property, which went to South of Midnight, and in the Best Narrative category it was beaten out by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2—a little bit of turnabout after Clair Obscur beat out KCD2 in every category at The Game Awards.
