Myhouse.wad remains very cool
It rules that we still don't know who made myhouse.wad. The surreal, unsettling Doom mod had a sort of ARG-lite element to it: The mod's original creator is said to have died, with Veddge, the uploader, either having expanded on something he left behind—or, more troublingly, having found the haunted map among the original creator's possessions.
I love it as a bit of creepypasta storytelling, but what makes me even happier is that Veddge has never broken character—they never even made another post on the DoomWorld forums after sharing myhouse.wad. If you had made something so popular and beloved, wouldn't you want to trade on that clout? Talk to John Romero yourself, give interviews about your artistic vision, parlay the success into a level design job?
Veddge hasn't even logged into their DoomWorld forums account since 2024. I would never resent someone choosing to dine out on their own labor and success, but to eschew that in favor of mystery and letting the art speak for itself, that requires a rare discipline I can't help but admire.
