PS5-exclusive Demon's Souls Remake not only runs on PC now, it's running at twice the fps cap on an RTX 5070 with frame gen
It could be smoother but double the frames is nothing to sniff at.
As a console gaming interloper, I've been watching the PlayStation 5 emulation scene from afar with some interest. The latest development to catch my eye is that emulation of the Demon's Souls Remake, which has been exclusive to Sony's console since its 2020 launch, can now run at up to 120 fps on PC.
Leveraging the very much unofficial KytyPS5 translation layer, YouTuber Geralt Benchmarks shared footage of the remake running on their RTX 5070 and AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D rig. The game reaches for more than 100 fps at 1440p resolution thanks to 2x DLSS frame generation, and you can watch it achieve a mostly buttery 120 fps at 1080p at the eight minute mark here.
Otherwise on Sony's hardware, the game is locked to 60 fps and 1440p resolution while in performance mode. Doubling the frames via emulation is impressive to say the least, especially for what is still a current-gen console.
For the sake of comparison, Geralt Benchmarks also shows the game running on their RTX 5070 rig with those PS5 settings left in place, turning in a performance that occasionally crests over the 70 fps mark. This emulated version isn't without its quirks, though.
Even in Geralt Benchmarks' footage, there's noticeable hitching for one thing, though I personally wouldn't say it's to a deal breaking degree. Though the PS5 only offers a maximum of 60 frames per second, it is incredibly consistent (Digital Foundry's Tech Review is still worth the watch).
Sony's hardware remains the only official way to play Bluepoint Games' remake—though now the PS5 costs significantly more than it did at launch, I can't say I'm surprised the emulation scene has kicked into overdrive.
The PS3 emulation scene has also been in the news recently, with the popular RPCS3 having had to clamp down on AI submissions (and don't get me started on AI's contentious role within the game decompilation scene either). As for PS4 exclusives finding their way off of Sony's hardware, what's impressed me most recently is technically not emulation, but instead a native PC port of P.T. Say it with me now: Umbasa!
