High-FPS, 4K detail or OLED colour: Which Gigabyte gaming display belongs on your desk?
Many items in the consumer technology space have become commoditised, meaning there’s not much difference between products beyond branding. Mercifully, gaming monitors are different thanks to new technologies and innovations appearing all the time. However, with so many options at so many price points, you’d be forgiven for being confused by some new features and be wary of paying too much for a monitor that doesn’t suit your needs.
Fortunately, Gigabyte’s new range of gaming monitors has you covered with monitors that suit specific needs – and – those wanting an all-rounder. We’ll start with the key features and then give overviews of the main monitors in the line-up. Here’s what you need to know...
OLED, 320Hz and Dual Mode Gaming
It took some time for OLED screens to become fast enough to suit competitive FPS players but now Gigabyte offers a choice of gaming monitors with 300Hz+ refresh rates to suit their needs. Its QD-OLED-equipped models also sport 0.03ms pixel response times to practically banish blur while its wallet-friendly OC SuperSpeed IPS models can overclock their refresh rates for extra performance. Whatever you choose, you can go hard in the fastest frantic firefights on Gigabyte’s FPS-oriented gaming monitors.
Of course, some gamers don’t want to own the show by sitting right up close to the screen in firefights, they like the immersion that large, colourful, high-contrast screens with high resolutions afford. But what about all those gamers who like to do both? You watch the Old El Paso ad, of course. Dual Mode lets you enjoy large-screen immersion (and a broader outlook in open world, tactical and racer games), but can also drop the screen size and resolution down, while upping the refresh rate to suit FPS gamers.
Gigabyte’s Tactical Switch 2.0 technology lets you do this with one button press. It even lets you pick between 16:9, 5:4 and 4:3 display ratios. Unlike some vendors, each Gigabyte setting choice feels like a native display and not like an adjusted Windows resolution.
Which Gigabyte gaming monitor is the one for you?
Here we’ll cover six models to suit your preferred gaming genres and budget.
Fast and frantic 300Hz+ for high-FPS gamers
Gigabyte offers two premium, FPS-gamer oriented models to suit different budgets. Up first is the 27-inch Gigabyte MO27Q3 which sports a fast, QD-OLED QHD (1440p) anti-reflective screen with a 1.5M:1 contrast ratio. Its Nvidia G-Sync Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro compatibility helps prevent image tearing. It also features eye comfort technologies like OLED VRR Anti-Flicker and sports TÜV Rheinland eye-health certifications. On the flip side, it offers an eye-watering 1,000-nit HDR peak brightness for incredible immersion and clarity, and supports 99 percent of the difficult DCI-P3 gamut for colour accuracy.
There’s also Gigabyte’s advanced, fan-less graphene cooling technology (with four-sided ventilation and customised heatsink) and AI OLED Care technologies, which support a three-year warranty that includes burn-in, for peace of mind. It also has a built-in KVM switch that lets you connect multiple devices at once.
FPS players will mostly be drawn to its rapid (VESA ClearMR 18000 anti-blur certified) 360Hz refresh rate which ensures blurriness is practically imperceptible in even the fastest and most-frantic firefights.
It also features Gigabyte’s Tactical Switch 2.0 technology which can drop the display size to 24-inches (at different aspect ratios and resolutions), while retaining the smooth 360Hz refresh rate, to make you more competitive. The screen itself is highly adjustable and the small-footprint stand lets you sit right up close. Add to that gaming features like Black Equalizer (to stop enemies hiding in highlights and shadows), Aim Stabilizer Sync (for smoother, more-accurate aiming), on-screen crosshairs, Night Vision, plus other game enhancements that make you more competitive, and you’ve an uncompromising monitor that can boost competitive shooters’ performance, yet suit all users.
For those who want a 300Hz screen with similar features, but are on a stricter budget, there’s the Gigabyte M27Q3. This swaps-in an IPS SuperSpeed (1ms GTG) panel with a 300Hz refresh rate (that’s overclockable to 320Hz). The screen has 1000:1 contrast with a VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, supports 95 percent of the demanding DCI-P3 colour space and has all the same gaming enhancements and the extremely useful KVM switch.
If you’re quick, Gigabyte will also throw-in Street Fighter 6 when buying either of these monitors.
QD-OLED colour for all-round gaming
Next up are Gigabyte’s 27-inch MO27Q2A and white-variant MO27Q2A ICE gaming monitors. These are very similar to their premium MO27Q3 sibling in terms of having a top-tier display and features like the handy KVM switch, but if you don’t need the fastest speed, you can drop down to a (still fast) 280Hz refresh rate and save some money. To further sweeten the deal, both models come with a game code for Onimusha: Way of the Sword.
4K detail and Dual Mode gaming
If you want both ultra-high resolution gaming and FPS-proficiency on a budget, then Gigabyte’s M27UP ICE and G27U 4K gaming monitors should be on your shortlist.
The M27UP offers all of Gigabyte’s gaming enhancements, including the small-footprint and highly adjustable stand, KVM technology (for multiple devices) and uses the 1ms (GTG) Super Speed IPS panel. At 4K it offers a swift 160Hz refresh rate for fast and immersive gaming, and Gigabyte’s Tactical Switch accelerates this to 320Hz at a Full HD resolution for superior FPS smoothness. The G27U follows suit, but forgoes the KVM switch if you don’t need it to save you money.
Both of these monitors currently include a free Street Fighter 6 game code, too.
