Gears of War: E-Day is an 'Xbox console exclusive,' but still coming to PC
The console wars are heating back up, but Microsoft isn't pulling away from PC gaming—at least not right now.
New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced during today's Xbox Games Showcase that Gears of War: E-Day is an "Xbox console exclusive."
I don't recall E-Day having been announced for PlayStation in the first place, so I momentarily wondered if the emphasis was on console there—no PC?
Nah, a Microsoft rep has confirmed to PC Gamer that Gears of War: E-Day is still coming to PC. (It has a Steam page and everything, after all.) Microsoft also announced a launch date: October 6, 2026.
The term "console exclusive" is often used in this way—to say that the console version is exclusive to one console, not that it's skipping PC—but we've got to be on our toes these days. The console wars are back on, and Sony has pulled away from PC releases for its big first-party games. Meanwhile, Xbox has new leadership, and we're still not sure how its strategy is going to evolve.
You can see the gameplay reveal in the video above; there's more to come, as E-Day is getting a deep dive after the main Xbox Games Showcase.
