A shooter we called 'one of the boldest, freshest games' of 2023 is getting a sequel: El Paso, Elsewhere 2 sends a slo-mo vampire into the void

El Paso, Elsewhere is an acclaimed indie gem—dropping in 2023, PC Gamer contributor Dominic Tarason called it "one of the boldest, freshest games of the year"—it followed the harrowing adventures of one James Savage as he slow-mo shot his way through a reality-warped 46-story subterranean motel filled with vampires, werewolves, and other nasties.

Well, now it's getting a sequel—as announced at the PC Gaming Show, El Paso, Elsewhere 2 will be coming to Steam next year. There's no specific release date, but there is a trailer. Rather than being stuck working over hospitality with his arsenal of weapons, Savage will be travelling along the United States this time in a journey that'll eventually see him pulled into the void itself, all to save the person who betrayed him.

The sequel promises over 20 levels with a bigger remit of scenery than the prior game—libraries, nightclubs, the lairs of eldritch horrors, and perhaps the most horrifying place of all: American suburbia (God help us all, these cities aren't even walkable).

Like the first game, Elsewhere 2 will have an original hip-hop soundtrack, produced again by RJ Lake, alongside fully-voiced cutscenes. It plays very similar to the original Max Payne games—third-person shooting with plenty of slow-mo thanks to Savage's vampiric powers.

"Strange Scaffold nearly closed in the process of making the first El Paso, Elsewhere. It's a game I never thought we'd have a chance to build a sequel for," studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr. tells PCGS.

"We're going to build on the things that worked in the original game, including our existing pieces of art, to create exciting gameplay we never could have even imagined before. I can't wait for folks to see how far James Savage can go."

You can expect high-octane shooting, biblically accurate angels, werewolves, vampires, and plenty of sick backflips along with a hefty dose of interpersonal existential dread. El Paso, Elsewhere 2 will release sometime next year, though you can wishlist the game now.
