Finding an Acidic Raion Pouch is one of your first goals in Subnautica 2, since you'll need it to make the basic battery required for a scanner. And the scanner is arguably your most important tool, since it's used to unlock more blueprints, like the Wakemaker and Sonic Resonator.

Luckily, you don't actually have to go too far to find Acidic Raion, and once you know where to look, you can keep going back for more as it respawns periodically. Just note that you need to craft a Survival Multitool and bring it with you to harvest it, though I'd be surprised if you left this essential tool back at base.

You can harvest Acidic Raion Pouches from purple brain-shaped plants, appropriately named Acid Raion, often found in caves. There are multiple pouches on each Acidic Raion, so you tend to only need one or two plants' worth at a time. At the centre of the plant, you'll find a Medical Gel Sack, too.

Make sure to never take the Medical Gel Sack until you've cut away the Acidic Raion Pouches, as it'll spew out burning acid into the water if you do.

There are multiple Acidic Raion spawns close to your starting Lifepod:

  • Two in the cave directly beneath the Lifepod
  • Two more in the lower level of the cave directly east of the Lifepod, about 30m away, past the acid-spewing plant
  • Multiple under and around the Welcome Centre, which is 70 metres southeast of the Lifepod

Once you've got a few early upgrades under your belt, such as the oxygen tank and some flippers, and can start swimming further away from the Lifepod, you'll come across Acidic Raion in droves. Still, you can't beat the convenience of the locations near your starting base early on.

As mentioned, your main reason for collecting Acidic Raion Pouch is to craft batteries, which are used in almost every handy tool, from the scanner, flashlight, and habitat builder, to the Wakemaker propulsion device. However, it can also be used to make Mild Acid, and the Medical Gel Sac is useful for crafting more advanced first aid kits.
