Of course a new Edgerunners series means a new Cyberpunk 2077 patch

A new series of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will drop on Netflix today and you know what that means: the nation of Poland has again conspired to make us all very sad.

Something else it means: CDPR's devs have been preparing a new patch for Cyberpunk 2077 (the videogame). Announced today, the details of Cyberpunk's 2.5 patch will drop tomorrow, the 21st of October, before the update itself releases on the 22nd.

Is it Cyberpunk 2077's actual, true, proper, pinky-swear final patch? No, and given the fact that The Witcher 3 just got a remaster 11 years after release, I'm not sure such a thing is possible.

Anyway, not much in the way of detail there in the patch's announcement post, I suppose, meaning we all have to wait til CDPR furnishes us with the deets in tomorrow's stream? Well, for the most part, yes, but the studio did drop some information about the patch's contents in the announcement post. Specifically, that the patch would contain new stuff in the way of cyberware customisation and "a new dual-wielding playstyle."

Which is fairly eyebrow raising. Cyberware customisation I'm not especially concerned about, though it's presumably good news for people who loved tinkering with the customisation on their cars after earlier patches introduced that feature. But a new dual-wielding playstyle? That'll get me to sit upright.

If you've forgotten (or if, as god intended, you've only played the game wielding a katana and quickhacks), Cyberpunk 2077 didn't let you properly dual wield guns. Even Jackie Welles' dual pistols—the ones he dual wields—become a single-handed weapon if you pick them up. They even mention dual wielding in the description! It's like being taunted.

Anyway, it sounds like that particular long, international nightmare is about to end. Or else CDPR is trolling us, which would be funny enough that I'd be okay with it.

One of Josh's first memories is of playing Quake 2 on the family computer when he was much too young to be doing that, and he's been irreparably game-brained ever since. His writing has been featured in Vice, Fanbyte, and the Financial Times. He'll play pretty much anything, and has written far too much on everything from visual novels to Assassin's Creed. His most profound loves are for CRPGs, immersive sims, and any game whose ambition outstrips its budget. He thinks you're all far too mean about Deus Ex: Invisible War.
