Surprisingly, the RTX 5070 was the first card that Jen-Hsun Huang announced at the CES 2025 Nvidia keynote. As a nod to the fact that pricing is going to be key to this new generation, it was unveiled along with the statement that it would deliver "RTX 4090 performance at $549."
The big caveat to that is Nvidia is looking at best case scenario stuff when the card's running one of the 75 DLSS 4-compatible titles which support the new Multi Frame Generation feature at launch.
So $1,600 GPU performance from a $549 card in certain games.
We don't have a final release date as yet for the RTX 5070 family of cards, so nothing about this or the RTX 5070 Ti. What we do have, however, is the official word that they will both launch in February.
The RTX 5070 comes with 6144 CUDA cores, which is more than the core count of the RTX 4070, but notably fewer than the RTX 4070 Super. It's also sporting the same 192-bit bus and 12 GB of memory. That memory is GDDR7, however, so will deliver a little higher bandwidth, but otherwise it's not a huge step up for the silicon.
At $549 the RTX 5070 is launching with a lower sticker price than either the original RTX 4070 or RTX 4070 Super. That $50 price cut isn't huge, but given that there was a lot of speculation about across-the-board price rises, that feels like a bit of a win. Or maybe would do if the core spec had improved to a greater extent.
