Lords of the End Times is 'not the end' for Total War: Warhammer: 'You can't get rid of us that easily'
"There are still other characters that I know a bunch of people would love to see."
"It's not the end. You can't get rid of us that easily. Warhammer has loads of larger than life characters that we'd still like to do. We've still got the odd crazy unit out there, and as you mentioned, there are some factions and races [Ind and Khuresh] in the world that we'll maybe get an opportunity to do, maybe we won't. But there's certainly more there."
"It's a pretty good experience as it stands and we've put in some of the best and most notable characters people have wanted for a long, long time, but there are still other ones that I know a bunch of people would love to see, whether they're legendary lords or legendary heroes."
"Bhashiva was a really good opportunity to explore some of that space, like what does it look like to do something a bit smaller, or a subset of something."
"That's something [Bhashiva] that in my wildest dreams I'd never thought we'd have been able to do when we first started out, but wow, what a feeling to bring that, because it does just make this world even more exciting and vibrant."
It's not strange to speculate that Lords of the End Times might signal the beginning of the end for Total War: Warhammer—it did kill the Warhammer Fantasy setting that the game is based on, after all, before Age of Sigmar rose from its ashes. But speaking to Senior Game Director, Richard Aldridge, and Associate Design Director, Sean Macdonald, I get the impression that they still have plenty of unfinished business with the game.
I asked them about the possibility of DLC for Dogs of War, the monkey king, or potentially fleshing out Ind and Khuresh (none of which they could confirm, obviously). But it was Aldridge talking about the Bhashiva DLC, an original character designed by Creative Assembly, that makes me think we're going to see a lot more smaller lord packs for the game in future.
These will likely add the "odd crazy unit" as Aldridge puts it, but also slowly flesh out the scattered legendary heroes and lords who constitute most of the potential remaining content that could be adapted for the game.
Still, I absolutely think we'll get Ind and Khuresh as map expansions at some point even if they don't include new races. Both regions, south of Cathay, are already on the Immortal Empires map after all, waiting to be fleshed out, just as Athel Loren was before the Wood Elf expansion in the original game.
There isn't heaps of lore surrounding either region, but Creative Assembly also teased a bunch of info about Ind (where Bhashiva and her tiger faction migrated from) when the character was added.
It's not strange to think that Creative Assembly could flesh out what's missing, as it did for Cathay in Total War: Warhammer 3, provided Games Workshop gives the go ahead to create more original work—I hope so, anyway, because it's proven itself more than equal to the task so far.
