Blizzard brought Korn out of its 4-year hiatus to write a song for Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred, confirming that nu metal is and always was sick as hell

I'll hand it to Blizzard: There's not a better band to write a Diablo song than Korn. I may have been slightly too young to call myself a legitimate fan, but my dad regularly had Korn on in his truck when he took me to school, and I distinctly remember staring at the grinning skull on the Diablo 2 box whenever I was allowed to use the family computer back then.

It gives me just enough of the nostalgia Blizzard is trying to spark with Korn's new song Reward The Scars. An animated music video for the track just dropped—perfectly timed for anyone who wants something to blast while playing Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred when it releases later today.

Even the music video feels like a throwback: The big demon lord Mephisto is drawn as if he was in a '90's comic book with his big hollow eyes and twisted horns. Once he fully abandons his human form and starts tearing people apart, the song erupts into a heavy breakdown that I'm sure 14-year-old me would've been obsessed with.

I'm also convinced Mephisto would love it too, if Sanctuary had access to YouTube or Spotify. Reward The Scars is the kind of song made for brooding demons intent on violently taking over the world. It's heavy and haunting and angry and could be used in an AMV for basically any moment cut from the expansion's campaign.

If anyone was worried Korn would change after going quiet for the last four years, Reward The Scars proves they've still got it. Singer Jonathan Davis is a known gamer, so I'm not surprised at all to see him agree to work with Blizzard on this one. Even though he's been writing a new album over the break, I don't think the guy who used to run his own World of Warcraft guild is going to ignore the phone when Blizzard calls.

Sadly, we won't be able to use that H.R. Giger microphone stand Davis is known for using as an in-game staff or anything. Missed opportunity, if you ask me.
