5 reasons why Roco Kingdom is the next best Pokémon competitor
From creatures with their own personalities, to epic battles and home hangouts with friends, Roco Kingdom offers much more than your typical monster-catching adventure.
There’s a reason that creature collectors have such enduring appeal. Whether you’re hunting for that one elusive monster, building the perfect team, or simply collecting your favourite adorable companions, they offer an intriguing mix of discovery, strategy, and the thrill of finding something truly special.
But what happens when you take that familiar formula and give it a sprawling world to explore, multiplayer activities to tackle with friends, and creatures that are much more than walking stat sheets?
That’s exactly what you'll find in Roco Kingdom. Developed by Tencent’s Morefun Studios, this colourful creature collector has already made a huge impression in China with its recent debut release, introducing players around the world to the magical continent of Carosia and its inhabitants, the Jinies.
There are so many things that make Roco Kingdom such an interesting prospect. Between creature systems, battles, and exploration, here are the five biggest reasons why it could be your next creature-collecting obsession.
Jinies have a personality of their own
Collecting hundreds of creatures is one thing, but giving each one a unique profile that makes them feel like a genuine companion is another.
Jinies have individual personalities, talents, and specialities, plus differences in height and weight, meaning no two are quite the same. Two Jinies belonging to the same species can have their own quirks and qualities, making the process of finding your perfect companion about more than simply filling out your collection.
Personality can have a tangible impact on stats, too. A Stubborn Jini sacrifices some Magic Attack to gain Physical Attack, while a Cheerful Jini is more eager to interact. These characteristics influence both their stats and their behaviour in the overworld.
Then there are Specialties: innate skills that vary between individual Jinies. Shared Ride allows a Jini to carry other Rocos as you explore, while Sharer helps players earn additional rewards while exploring the open world.
Your favourite Jini might not necessarily be the one with the biggest numbers, but maybe they’re a cheerful little companion who makes every journey more enjoyable instead, or the resource-gathering expert who becomes an indispensable part of your adventures. With so much variation, there truly is a Jini for everyone.
Finding a rare Jini is only the beginning
Every creature collector needs those elusive finds that make you stop whatever you’re doing and celebrate, and Roco Kingdom has several ways to make your collection feel uniquely yours.
Chromatic Jinies offer a fresh twist on familiar creatures, with rare colour variations that make the hunt for your next favourite all the more exciting. Prismatic Jinies take things a step further, with random gradient colours and animated glitter effects. And the best part? These effects can stack, creating some truly eye-catching companions.
That's before you even get into the game's Alpha forms, which take things even further. They gain upgraded appearances, aptitudes, and traits. And, with the right Alpha Bloodline and Token, can transform mid-battle and in the Overworld.
There’s more to battling than simply finding the strongest creature
Building a formidable team is a big part of any creature collector, but the most interesting systems give you reasons to think carefully about how your creatures fit together.
In Roco Kingdom, Jinies have six core aptitudes: Health, Physical Attack, Magic Attack, Physical Defense, Magic Defense, and Speed. Their Talent determines the size of their aptitude bonuses, with four tiers ranging from Average to Amazing.
Their Bloodline matters, too, determining which skills they can learn. Combine that with personality-based stat differences and individual Specialties, and there are plenty of factors to consider when putting together your dream team.
For players who enjoy putting their carefully raised creatures to the test, PvP offers another outlet, while PvE matches against Jini Scholars introduce season-specific creatures and their skills, giving you opportunities to learn more about their capabilities while earning rewards.
There are tougher challenges to tackle, too, as the combat loop extends beyond ordinary encounters. Alpha Battles offer powerful opponents and valuable first-clear rewards, while the weekly PvE challenge presents Legendary Boss encounters, with powerful opponents such as Winged King and Parlyth appearing in the current test.
It’s a promising combination of collection, preparation, and experimentation. The fun isn't just in catching another Jini; it's in discovering what it can do, and working out how it fits into your wider gameplay strategy.
Teaming up with friends to take on the world
Why go it alone? Creature collecting can be a wonderfully personal hobby, but Roco Kingdom doesn't expect every adventure to be a solo affair.
Blossom Battles, for instance, allow up to four players to work together and capture a specific Jini, meaning there’s more reason to join forces with pals beyond discussing your latest catches. These encounters can reward high-level creatures, Jinies with strong Individual Aptitudes, rare Chromatic and Prismatic variants, and even grant useful items for raising your collection. If competitive play is more your thing, PvP rankings and rewards give you another reason to keep refining your team.
Beyond the creatures themselves, Roco Kingdom also features a more casual social side, allowing you the chance to slow down between battles and collecting to decorate your home and invite friends to visit, offering space for a more relaxed playstyle.
Best of all, multiplayer is an extension of the wider adventure, rather than the whole point of it. For those who do prefer to go it alone, Roco Kingdom offers the perfect setting for solo adventures, so you can set about exploring and collecting at your own pace before joining friends when you fancy a group challenge.
It's this mixture of activities that makes the game so appealing on paper. One moment, you might be tracking down a rare Jini with friends; the next, you could be gathering resources with a companion or chilling out with friends in your humble abode.
Exploring Carosia is about more than getting from A to B
A creature collector lives or dies by the appeal of its world; after all, if you’re going to spend hours hunting for new companions, you want to be immersed in a landscape worth exploring.
Roco Kingdom combines its collection and battle systems with a shared overworld full of activities. Your Jinies aren't just creatures waiting to be caught, either: their Specialties can make them useful companions for gathering resources, while Shared Ride lets certain Jinies carry other Rocos around the map.
Alpha forms add another layer of personality to exploration, allowing you to display your transformed companions outside combat. Appearing in unique, special forms, your collection can become a visible part of your journey through Carosia.
A creature collector with room to grow
There’s plenty of features in Roco Kingdom to interest anyone who loves building a collection and watching it grow. And with all of Carosia to explore, the biggest question might not be which Jini you'll catch first, but which one will end up becoming your favourite.
