    Default Who is copying who?

    Hello,

This is my first time posting on the forums.

I have been a subscriber of PC Gamer for a very long time and I also subscribe to PC Format.

Recently on receiving both magazines I have noticed that the reviews are exactly the same in both magazines word for word infact.

How can both magazines be impartial if they are both the same? The whole idea of getting both is so that I can get a wide range of review comparisons.

Has anyone else noticed this and any idea if it is going to continue? If so there is no reason to subscribe to both magazines.

I feel kinda cheated out of my subscription fee.

they are both future publishing. i guess futurespecialising more on tech and hardware, but the two likely cross over a bit. so neither are copying either, they are the same company

yeah they are both future publishing there will be some crossover, it's like the UK and US versions of PC Gamer often have the exact same articles. it's cheaper to pay one writer to do an article than pay for a different person to do it at each mag under the same publisher.

my guess is if you look who wrote the article in each mag it will be the same. but as said the main difference seems to be PC format is more aimed at hardware and PC gamer is more aimed at gaming, there is just some crossover in places.

but if your looking for a more even comparison you shouldn't get 2 mag's from the same publisher anyway as if one mag has been bought off, every mag by the publisher will of.

It's cutting costs, really. Future has become stingier and stingier. PC Gamer US, UK and PC Format used to have their own articles and while many writers between Gamer and Format were shared and if a writer couldn't review a game for Gamer, he could review it for Format. Result: you had two opinions and had a reason to buy both mags.

Honestly, I'm not impressed by this cost cutting. People notice as this topic shows, and when you subscribe to both mags, you feel ripped off and rightly so. For the money they save, they also lose subscribers AND less reviews are available for readers to check so the only one 'winning' is them and only by a small margin. They must be very desperate to do this - maybe PC Format sales have been so low that they had to cut costs?

I imagine the number of people subscribing to both magazines is a very small number.

Well the reason I subscibed to both for such a long time is that they were both very different magazines. Now half of it is the same as the other. Can anyone reccomend a good PC Hardware or Games magazine that are not with Future Publishing?

I have subscribed for maybe 10 years or so. The cost cutting on their part has unfortunateley just lost them my subscription.

I think its a crazy and silly move.

They must realise that if PC format is hardware focussed and PC Gamer is games focussed, why would someone not be inclined to get both?

PC Format is even advertised in PC Gamer on occasion and vice versa.

Sorry guys but all the monney I have paid for this. It feels like a complete con.

You could try PCPlus. Its got very little overlap with PCGamer but it is a Future mag. It used to include lots of coding stuff but not these days.

It's a real shame to see the same reviews for the last few months; considering cancelling my PCFormat sub!
