Slash if you can go to a firm that uses llu they don't use bt hardware.

As for a good ISP I can't fault o2 gave me a faster speed and if you have a o2 phone you can save about a fiver a month, you even get the saving from a pay as you go sim.

O2 is very good especially if you already have an O2 mobile phone. I recently moved house and managed to negotiate 6 months free followed by 6 months of £12. I get about 4Gb download rate and I am miles from the exchange.

Invading forums I havent been on in months, but second vote here for BeThere. Fantastic uncapped broadband (up to 24meg) unfortunately the service over the phone can be a little hard at times as they use a call centre in romania, however, they had me set up within 3 days. Never had an issue with speed, and I download ALOT.

Or failing that go with Virgin's gaming service! Only screws up on every world event in WoW. That and the fact they limit you like crazy it's the only logical choice!

Virgins speed throttling seems to be very harsh. Pretty low limits before they knock me down from 10Mb to about 1.5 or even as low as 0.4. Seems to happen to me far more than is fair. Doesnt affect WoW too much but it means i cant watch 1080p youtube videos without them buffering like crap.

Never give money to BT, long story short, screw them cos they screwed me.
Someone rang asking if i'd come back and I gave them a right earful. You'd think they had a note on their system not to ring me anymore by now.
(I know its not that person fault but it touches a nerve)

Be broadband are the way forward plus you can give them your line rental monies and not BT.
I think Be use O2's equipment or something aswell so no BT involvement at all.

God only knows why I went from Be to Talk Talk.
What they say: "We'll give you the same speed if not better"
What they did: half the speed I used to have *shakes fist*
I couldn't even use the 15 day "trial" thing cos I was going on my damn honeymoon when it switched over :P
Calls to customer service are a joke as all I get told to fix my line speed is to empty my internet cache.
I have NEVER known that to work for ANYONE EVER and they told me to do it and wouldn't go any further with the call until I did it every time I rang them. I very much doubt my temporary internet files have much to do with the terrible line attenuation your giving me good sirs :P

    Roll on contract renewal.
