Buy a 2 or 3 stupidly long games that will last you ages. Then spend the rest in the pub. (Or at least that's what I do...)

STUPIDLY LONG GAMES LIST!
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect Trilogy
Skyrim
Far Cry 3 (Judging by the review)
Just Cause 2
Civilization IV
Any Total War Game from Rome onwards
Assassins Creed II (Generally goes on sale on Steam for £20 for II, Brotherhood and Revelations)

Buy some stable old highly recommended games (check top games of all time or daviddanut's list above) with loads of mods and addons to maximise the quality game time to cash ratio. Don't buy any game less than two years old unless you have played and enjoyed the (stable on your system) demo. No demo conceals bad games behind shiny screen captures, new releases are now all really wonky and need to be fixed via download on release. Wait for them to be destruct tested by everyone else then get them cheap.

That will probably set you back £15 or so. Blow the rest on whatever frivolous crap catches your eye. I suggest hookers or nerf guns, or hookers with nerf guns.

(a sensible alternative would be buy a joystick ((ready for star citizen)) and download the freespace 2 open project for no money at all. The freespace 1 campaign is as good as the freespace 2 campaign and thats before you start on the bablon 5, star trek, starwars, wing commander conversions ).
