Default Rise of the Triad remake

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhi-7lj7osI

First thought: The voice sounds a bit low quality doesn't it?
Next thought: FUCK THAT LOOKS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN.

The sound can be chosen - either the original 'retro' sounds or the modern ones.

Wow really? Great touch! Even more reason to look forward to this!

I should pick up the original on GoG sometime.

I was always a bit unsure about the original - in a way, it was too mindless and straightforward for me to really enjoy it a lot. Doom had a great element of tactics in its arsenal of weapons and opponents and so did Duke Nukem 3D. However, Rise of the Triads was mostly about running, gunning and the weapons didn't allow for as many tactics nor were the enemies as varied. On top of that, they mixed a more "realistic" approach with some weird elements which I always felt jarred a little. It was as if they couldn't make up their mind about whether to make a serious game or a goofy one.

Having said that, it's still an enjoyable and I'd still play it over pretty much any modern FPS to be honest (at least it doesn't have tedious scripted scenes every 0.5 seconds). It just wasn't as much fun as Duke or Doom - I can see a remake having a lot of appeal though.

Dug up this topic, since game and review are there...

Can agree with the PC Gamer, it's a very mediocre game. Too much bugs, graphical glitches and yes: the checkpoints are frustrating (review stated the original hasn't got 'quicksaves', well...it has. Just press F6. The remake would've been better with them tbh).

It's a good attempt, but it needs serious patching. The devs are actually listening to the fans on the official forum, so the game isn't lost.

I'll probably get this game when it was really dirt cheap, but as it stands, less so. The music is kick ass though.
