New Runestone effects revealed for Diablo III
Back at Blizzcon, Blizzard announced that players will be able to customize all 20 of their character’s skills in Diablo III by applying one of five different-colored Runestones to each ability. They gave a few examples, but today they released five new skills fully customized, with video of all the different versions in action. Read on to see the many different ways you’ll be able to change how the Barbarian’s Whirlwind and the Monk’s Sweeping Wind abilities work!
Hard Stuff: Razer StarCraft 2 Banshee review
The Banshee aims to showcase your skills in StarCraft II, but it misses the bull’s-eye completely. The speakers and ear cups are protected in heavy, thick plastic, but the headband is unnecessarily wide, and the sides don’t collapse inward or fold up, so it’s awkward to carry around.
Two Worlds 2 Collector’s Edition Giveaway x2 (US Only)
UPDATE: The winners have been picked. Congratulations to Bsik and VA1N. Thanks to all who entered.
You know, we aren’t so different, you and I. When I have got a killstreak going, the last thing I want to do is get up to throw away my junk food trash–and I know you’re the same way. So, over time, our desks get cluttered with computer parts, Mountain Dew cans, and Slim Jim wrappers. But when we clean them off, we discover treasures that would make the great pirates of yesteryear drool (and probably scratch their sweet pirate beards in confusion since they don’t understand technology). Today is no exception. After removing stacks of papers we found two very rare Royal Editions of Two Worlds 2. And like true PC gaming saints, we’re giving them away to you.
EVE Online pokes fun at doomsayers with a new login screen
Are you prepared for the coming apocolypse? Is your kitchen full of canned food and non-perishables, just in case the Rapture is happening tomorrow? What about a first aid kit and water? Are you planning on spending your last hours on street corners shouting angrily at stangers passing by? Maybe you can still save their–Ah, forget it. Let’s just stay inside and play EVE Online instead.
Sony Online Entertainment databases were hacked, players’ credit card and bank information stolen
Just as Sony’s security troubles seemed to be drifting to the back of our minds, ready to be forgotten, SOE has released a surprisingly frank appraisal of how the security leak affected their databases. On April 16 and 17, hackers accessed their database and stole a ton of information. If you’ve played an SOE game, read on to see what information has been compromised, so you can take the proper steps to protect yourself.
The Old Republic shows off Sith Warrior’s gear progression
While we wait in anticipation for official news regarding The Old Republic’s release date, BioWare has released a new video showing off the progressions your Sith Warrior’s gear. As is the habit of MMO armor sets, the outfit gets more and more crazy as he reaches higher levels: from cloth rags and fake lightsaber to half-cyborg Sith Master. Which specialization do you think looks more intimidating, the Marauder or the Juggernaut?
First Portal 2 DLC will bring new test chambers, leaderboards, and challenge modes this summer
In case you forgot, Valve wants to remind you that it loves you. Not only do they craft extraordinary games to sell you, such as Portal 2, they tend to give away enough DLC afterwards to nearly match the launch content. And they’re not changing their ways now: read on for full details on the first free DLC pack coming to Portal 2!
iBUYPOWER partners with Wal-Mart to sell custom desktop PCs
Gamers looking for a custom gaming rig, but who don’t want to build it themselves (shame on you) have a new, super-convenient option. iBUYPOWER is partnering up with one of the largest retail chains on the planet, Wal-Mart, to bring custom PCs to the masses.
Interview: Free-form climbing and alien hunting in Prey 2
We just received an unmarked envelope with a lone cassette tape inside of it. On it, one almost-lost interview that our ill-fated Chris Comiskey was able to record at last week’s Bethesda event before he met his grisly demise. Poor Chris, he sounds so innocent as he gets a first-look at Prey 2 and talks with Chris Reinhardt, the game’s project lead and co-founder of developer Human Edge Studios, about the AI, vertical movement, weapons and much more.
Sims 3: Generations preview
I sneak up to my neighbor’s house and peer inside to see if they’re home. Then I ring the doorbell and quickly hide in the bushes. Meanwhile, my little brother is pretending to be a prince in the backyard, hosting a grand feast inside his mead hall. Joining him at the banquet is his imaginary friend, who helps him clean the dishes at night.
Youth is a wondrous thing in the right hands. My playtime with The Sims 3 Generations showed off some of the new content for younger characters–bunk beds, childhood imagination, outdoor activities as well as kids costumes–but the expansion will feature updates for all ages, including adults and elderly.
Battlestar Galactica Online, and two other sci-fi MMOs you can play in your browser right now
There’s not a huge downside to having games run in your browser nowadays (thanks in no small part to the magic of the Unity engine). Take BSGO for example: it may run in your browser, but it’s a legitimate space sim MMO with great off-the-rails combat in an attractive, 3D environment. I’ve been playing in the beta, defending the colonies as Captain Santa, Viper pilot. The beta is open at this stage, so you can join the fight to preserve humanity (or you can be a toaster if you’d rather fight for the Cylons) at http://battlestar-galactica.bigpoint.com/, but you should know three things before you do.
New spoof TV ad lands on Deus Ex’s Sarif Industries website
Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s viral marketing is really speeding up. Before, if you visited the Sarif Industries site, all that you’d find is some fake investor information and details on augmentations. Today, however, my daily visit to the site was rewarded with a TV spot that’s got a healthy mix of humor and creepiness. Is this really what the future will be like? Watch the video below to find out how you can “live the life you’ve always imagined.”
World of Tanks Giveaway
UPDATE: We had a slight problem getting our codes so there will be a delay in getting those out. Good news is that we are now expecting 100 codes instead of just 21!
World of Tanks will be released tomorrow! When we heard this news, we immediately imagined ourselves dispensing indiscriminate tank justice. You shouldn’t be afraid to enter this free-to-play war either because zombie General Patton himself visited us today and gave us 21 starter packs that we will disperse to our fans. If you’d like to be one of the fortunate 21, and not end up as a flame broiled tank commander, read on for your chance to win.
The Next Big Thing preview
As I walk by the passed-out Mexican gangster with claws for hands, I kneel down next to the mutant dog-plant, Tobby, and wave a can of caviar in front of him. I need him to get the scent of my journalist colleague—she’s gone missing, on the property of a mansion owned by a monster (who’s a respectable movie producer that just happens to make monster movies).
