Who reckons Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is already sitting pretty as a dead-set-cert for GOTY? PC PowerPlay does, because we've just been deep in the new world exploring and dying. A lot of exploring, and very, very many deaths…
Erdtree brings some very welcome additions to the legendary base game, as Joab explains in his big hands-on starting on page 14. We do like the greater freedom to go where you want and do things in the order you prefer. It builds upon the already vast and free open world the original game established.
FROM Software's kicked it out of the park, again. The depth in this incredible world will have us all determined to go everywhere and do everything. Will you? I get that this won’t be everyone’s thing, and that’s ok. So please do check out what to play instead, or what to look forward to with all the rest of the lovely gaming goodness in this issue of PC PowerPlay. Enjoy!

Ben thinks he’s probably the most experienced PC gaming editor and writer in Australia. After working on the legendary Hyper magazine in the early 1990s, he founded the even-more-legendary PC PowerPlay mag in 1995, and remained as editor for the first five years during that period of explosive PC gaming evolution. After that he founded Atomic magazine in 2000, shifting his focus a bit more towards PC gaming hardware. After a few years as Atomic editor, Ben took over PC Authority magazine, and is now the editor of APC. He likes 48-hour Sins of a Solar Empire binges when he’s not sitting in his sim racing rig manhandling his precious German equipment.
