After nearly five years spent developing social and mobile games with his studio Loot Drop, John Romero has let slip that he's working on a fully-fledged shooter. Speaking on the Super Joystiq Podcast, Romero said that he's working on "several" games at the moment, with one of them to release under the Romero Games handle, rather than Loot Drop.
More sad news for Loot Drop, the developer founded by Brenda Brathwaite and John Romero, which yesterday announcedthe cancellation of Ghost Recon Commander and let go of the team behind it. A post on Loot Drop's Facebook page asked for assistance from fellow San Francisco studios in rehousing their lost staff, who only last week snagged a runner-up prize in the Golden Joystick Awards for their efforts on the isometric, tactical-strategy game.
Excited about Brenda Braithwaite and Tom Hall's Shaker: An Old-School RPG? Don't be: the pair have canned the crowfunding drive two weeks and a quarter of a million dollars in, via a message on the (confusingly still live) Kickstarter page.
Wizardry designer, Brenda Braithwaite, and id and Ion Storm co-founder Tom Hall are teaming up to make an old school RPG and they need a million dollars to make it happen. Cue the start of a new Kickstarter campaign. There's not much information on the setting or style of this old school RPG. In fact, it doesn't even have a name beyond "Old School RPG" at the moment.
There is a whole team raring to get started on this thing, however, and Braithwaite and Hall have buckets of experience between them. Brenda Braithwaite has worked on the Wizardry series and Jagged Alliance. Hall helped build the excellent Anachronox.
