Default What's the best screen recording software?

I want to start casting SC2 games as well as do video reviews and features on Youtube. I just wanted to throw out to the community what everyone's experience is with various software, which is the best and is it worth shelling out cash.

Remember the focus is on uploading the videos to my Youtube channel.

    Thanks guys!

FRAPS seems to be the standard, or at least the most popular. I haven't heard very much of any other software so I don't know if there are any others that would be better, but as FRAPS has a free version on their site it's worth checking out before you spend money on anything.

The Fraps free version limits to only taking 30 second worth of in game footage at a time, also, FRAPS videos take up alot of hard drive space. Though with the paid version i'm sure you can tweak things around.

I think Xfire has a similar screen recording app.

Could always use an external recorder and a splitter box...

If you want the best then purchase the full version of Fraps.

Yeah, it's a little pricey but I haven't come across anything that's better. It's a one time purchase and the program itself is probably one of the simplest & most effective out there.

The Xfire recorder doesn't have any watermarks either although it doesn't record to the same quality. But if you want a free alternative, it's not bad.

Does FRAPS record audio from microphones as well, or will I have to record the audio separately?

It does that too. In the options you can tick a box and choose to either record everything or record from your mic only when you press a hotkey.

Fraps as well, been using it for years. files are pretty big, 1 minute equals 1GB most of the time but space is hardly an issue these days.

But you als need a video editor of course, fraps video's alone wont get you on youtube. A good editor will compress the fraps video's with minimum or no loss in quality and you will be able to use loads of the raw fraps clips and make it into one high quality vid which is still acceptable in size.

Personaly i use Sony Vegas but thats expensive, there are multiple good free ones as well i think.

I'm not sure fraps can stream live can it?
Also I use a free thing that works perfectly for me, and you can change the quality depending on how much bandwith you have, and it automatically streams to a website that people can view from, recording the screen, the sound of your computer, and your mic. You can also set it to view from your webcam, or half and half. It also gives you the option to save the recording after you have complelted the stream, so it's ideal for me. I'll post the link when I get home.

I remember hearing PlayClaw was alright and was supposed to be the next big rival against FRAPS.
