Fallout 76 update: Patch 14 updates and bug fixes

Fallout 76 Halloween patch 14

Fallout 76 is (almost) a year old now. At launch in November of 2018, Bethesda's first multiplayer game in the Fallout series was plagued by bugs, balance issues, and a major lack of quintessential Fallout personality. Since then, Fallout 76 has had more updates than there have been months since its release, each bringing something new and important to the wasteland. Fallout 76 now has a Battle Royale mode, a ton of additional options for customizing your player C.A.M.P., and private worlds for subscription members.

Bethesda has been relentless in releasing updates that give players a reason to return to the wasteland. With any luck, the updates will keep coming, as there's no mention of a singleplayer Fallout any time in the known future and we're unlikely to get any indication of one with Bethesda currently working on both Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda published a roadmap for Fallout 76 earlier this year, detailing all of the planned updates and additions to the game for 2019. Check back here for the details on each update as it happens and information on upcoming patches.

Below we've listed all of the changes in Fallout 76's most recent patch 14. Check page 2 for previous patch notes from patch 11 onwards.

Fallout 76 Wastelanders Update - Upcoming

At E3 2019, Bethesda officially announced Wastelanders, which will bring human NPCs back to Appalachia. Seeing human NPCs return to the wasteland for players to interact with has likely been the most-requested feature since launch and easily the most notable feature keeping Fallout 76 from feeling like a real Fallout game.

Wastelanders will add a Fallout 3-style dialogue system (meaning no more generic tonal choices like Fallout 4), companion characters that you can pursue romance with, and new gear and activities.

Fallout 76's Wastelanders update was originally planned for the fall of 2019 but has been delayed to the first quarter of 2020. Bethesda says that the delay will "make sure the work we’re doing hits our quality bar, and yours."

Hotfix - November 12, 2019

Update (Nov 12, 2019): During today’s maintenance, an issue was discovered that we will need to address before we can roll out all of the fixes planned for today’s update. Two fixes have been implemented today, and the rest will arrive with the full hotfix once we’ve resolved the issue discovered during downtime. We will let you know once we’re ready to move forward with this hotfix in the next few days.

Of the updates below, Bethesda has so far implemented the two "Items" fixes. The remaining updates are subject to the above delay.

C.A.M.P., crafting, and workshops

  • Crafting: Components assigned for sale in the Vending Machine are no longer prioritized over the Scrapbox when crafting or repairing items.
  • Exploit: Fixed a pair of exploits that could allow players to duplicate items.
  • Exploit: Addressed an exploit affecting Workbenches.

Combat

  • Armor: Fixed an issue that prevented Armor from taking condition damage during combat.
  • Exploit: Addressed a weapon damage exploit.

Items

  • Exploit: Removed a number of items that were not intended to be available in-game that could only be obtained by abusing an exploit.
  • Headwear: Addressed an issue that prevented several unrepairable masks and helmets from being equipped.

Performance and stability

  • Stability: Addressed an issue that could result in a server crash while on a team.
  • Stability: Implemented a fix for an issue that could cause a server crash when being shot by enemies under specific circumstances.

Design and Balance Updates

Scorchbeasts: Now have a chance to spawn as Legendary.

Vault 94 Rewards: Increased Ammo crafting and Aid item rewards for completing Vault 94 Missions.

  • Magazines: Weight reduced from 0.5 lb to 0.01 lb.
  • Teddy Bears: Weight reduced from 0.75 lb or 1 lb (depending on the bear) to 0.5 lb.

Quests and Events

Public Events: The cooldown timer between the start of one Public Event to the start of the next has been significantly reduced.

Developer Note: We agree with community feedback that our initial implementation of the Public Event cooldown timer was too conservative. Since events vary greatly in length and difficulty, we cannot predict exactly how long this timer will last in all cases. However, you should notice Public Events starting around twice as often after today’s update.

User Interface

Adjustable Menu Music: A new “Menu Music” slider has been added to the Sound settings menu, which can be adjusted to raise or lower the music volume on the Main Menu and in the Atomic Shop.

Atomic Shop: The Confirm Purchase window that appears after selecting an item in the Atomic Shop has received visual updates.

Workbenches: The “Paint” mod slot when modifying ranged weapons has been renamed “Appearance.”

Nuclear Winter Updates

New Seasonal Rewards: Unlock six new Halloween-themed cosmetic rewards by completing limited-time Nuclear Winter Challenges from October 29 through November 12.

Rewards include Jack o’ Lantern and Bat themed weapon and armor paints, and Glowing Skeleton Outfit, so start racking up Overseer XP to claim them while they’re available.

A More Festive Vault 51: ZAX has made Vault 51 even more BOO!-tiful by scaring up lots of new creepy Halloween décor that Candidates can enjoy while waiting for a match to begin.

Color Coded Item Rarities: Items you find during your Nuclear Winter matches are now color-coded in the menus based on their rarity to help you better gauge their effectiveness at a glance.

Item colors from common to very rare are as follows: White, green, blue, purple, and orange.

New Weapons: The Super Sledge and the Pole Hook have been added and can appear in Large Supply Crates.

Stealth Boy: The Stealth effect provided by a Stealth Boy in Nuclear Winter now lasts for a maximum of 20 seconds, and it is removed if the player chooses to attack while in Stealth.

Gun Runner Perk: Now also applies its +20% movement speed bonus when the player has a shotgun equipped.

Favorites Menu: The radial Favorites menu has been updated to include an Effects List and Quick Inventory.

Challenges: The Challenges menu now only displays Nuclear Winter Challenges while playing Nuclear Winter mode.

Press and Hold Activators: Players must now hold down the “Activate” button to enter Furniture in Vault 51, much like furniture in Adventure Mode.

Lauren loves long books and even longer RPGs. She got a game design degree and then, stupidly, refused to leave the midwest. She plays indie games you haven't heard of and will never pass on a story about players breaking games or playing them wrong.
