Wuthering Waves 3.1 is here: Introducing a digital ghost, a gold-blooded doctor, and a huge new region
Two new Resonators are the stars of the latest major update.
In what appears to be an abandoned classroom, tiny pink flowers creep in from the rolling hills visible outside the window and spread across the floor and walls. Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, a ghostly figure dressed in white, with striking pink hair, sits quietly in the fading light.
“Nothing truly matters, not even saving the world,” she says. “But you have to believe what you’re doing has meaning. That’s the only way to keep moving forward.”
Rover, the player character, steps forward and reaches out to take her hand, but she vanishes before he can touch her, leaving behind a single snowflake in his palm. This is Aemeath, a “digital ghost,” and one of the two new playable Resonators introduced in Wuthering Waves Version 3.1, now available.
It is a poetic and enigmatic introduction that sets the tone for one of the game’s most significant updates. Version 3.1 was officially revealed during an hour-long livestream in January. Its predecessor, Version 3.0, marked a major milestone for the open-world RPG, introducing the frozen realm of Lahai-Roi, a motorbike to explore it with, powerful new Resonators, and a greater focus on the player character of Rover, piecing together his purpose in this post-apocalyptic world. Wuthering Waves 3.1 takes players to even greater heights and desolation beyond Lahai-Roi, up to the Roya Frostlands.
The first half of Version 3.1 centers its narrative on Aemeath. As a newly playable Resonator, her past appears to be bound to both Rover and the Exostrider, the colossal mech players discovered in Lahai-Roi. Is this connection between Aemeath and Exostrider tied to her mysterious disappearance 10 years ago? Can she awaken the slumbering giant? And is Aemeath truly a digital ghost, or does her ethereal presence conceal a deeper truth?
Regardless of Aemeath's true nature, she makes her presence felt in combat. As a Resonator that blends mech and idol flair, she can seamlessly switch between her digital ghost form and her Exostrider mech, engaging enemies from a first-person HUD perspective while piloting the machine.
In the open world, activating her mech also grants her the ability of flight. She can summon her mech to fight alongside her, unleashing dazzling combo attacks with sweeping blade strikes. Her battles are a graceful ballet, imbuing each combat encounter with a performative star quality. As a core DPS character within the updated combat system, she makes a strong case for recruitment.
While Aemeath is set to steal the show, the second new Resonator arriving in the latter half of the update, Luuk Herssen, should not be overlooked. A man of science and a skilled doctor, Herssen is a gentle, easygoing addition to the Startorch Academy. Despite his demeanor, Herssen is a puzzlebox of secrets and traumas to uncover. Medicinal Ichor runs through his body to combat a mysterious disease, giving his veins a golden hue while causing excruciating pain that he's learned to integrate.
In battle, Herssen channels his skills into dicing up enemies with surgical precision. His Ichor transforms into different weapon forms, which he wields with a calm demeanor and deadly intent. In a beautiful, creative flourish, Herssen can suspend himself in the air by a summoned scythe before swinging it at enemies in spectacular, explosive arcs. He's a cool, calculated contrast to Aemeath's dazzling style.
The Roya Frostlands themselves are far more than a desolate wasteland. As you explore the region, you'll encounter the Spacetrek Collective’s Solar Research Outpost, a remote human settlement dedicated to studying the area’s anomalous phenomena. Scattered research logs from past expeditions offer further insight into the land’s history. Among the spectacular rock formations, players can also discover Ginnungamere, a lake that remains unfrozen against all odds, watched over by a massive pink tree rising skyward.
These features are just the tip of the iceberg for Version 3.1. The motorbike is getting a new skill tree that enables water traversal, the update’s events offer players up to 40 free pulls, and a wide range of quality-of-life improvements have been implemented throughout the game.
This ambitious new chapter of Wuthering Waves is available now as a fully free-to-play update, and it has already seen strong results following launch. On its release day, Version 3.1 reached number one on Steam’s top sellers chart and currently holds a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with a 90.77% approval rate across more than 39,000 user reviews. In an internal letter, Kuro Games CEO Solon Lee stated, “As of now, the overall revenue performance of Version 3.1 has surpassed that of Version 2.4, reaching a new historical high.”
You can download the game via the official website on Steam, Android, iOS, and macOS or stream it across devices through GeForce NOW.
