Looking for the best weapons in AC Valhalla? There is a lot of gear to be found in England and Norway, so much so that you may find yourself spoilt for choice. Finding the best weapon comes down to your individual playstyle, so it's worth playing around with the different types, rather than settling for the first one you find. Weapons can be found in various locations and are classed as AC Valhalla wealth, so it's a good idea to go out of your way, and explore these locations. Thanks to the new Wrath of the Druids DLC, Eivor has yet another high powered weapon to chase down in Ireland.

Once you've found your favourite—or favourites—you'll want to upgrade frequently as you progress through the story. Finding the best AC Valhalla weapon may be subjective, but I've listed my favourites below to give you a head start if you're just beginning your Viking journey.

The best weapons in AC Valhalla

Varin's Axe

Where: Tied to the main story.
Perk: Increase speed after each hit.

This unassuming axe has plenty of poke, even up to late-game content—providing you upgrade it. The speed increase stacks up to ten times, so whether you pair it with a shield or choose to dual-wield it with another one-hander, this bearded axe should make short work of any Saxon that dares stand in your way.

Yngling Seax

Where: In a building to the southwest of Eikundarsund in Norway.
Perk: Increase melee damage after a dodge.

This fast dagger is great for leaping out of harm's way, or dodging behind an enemy to land an attack. You can pick this up early on and it's a solid choice if you decide to dual-wield one-handed weapons, and rely more on evading incoming attacks. It's one of the light one-handers, too, so you'll have more stamina for dodges if you use this in your primary slot.

Spinning-Death

Where: In a chest inside the Trade Depot in Jorvik.
Perk: Heavy finisher hits have a chance to drop a fire bomb.

This flail is a lot of fun, not least of all because it has a wide range and makes short work of enemies it comes into contact with. Performing a heavy finisher with this flail makes it even more deadly, especially when you find yourself surrounded by enemies. If you're after precision, however, this weapon may not be for you. And it's not ideal if you're fighting in an area littered with civilians, as it's range can have devastating consequences.

Carolingian Longsword

Where: Forest Hideout, east of Grantebridge in East Anglia.
Perk: Increase critical damage after a finisher.

If you're after a two-hander longsword, but not quite ready to take on the task of obtaining Excalibur (see below), the Carolingian Longsword is a decent alternative. If you manage multiple finishers on a group of enemies, you'll be pleased to know that the increased critical damage you receive stacks up to five times. Obviously, it's much slower than one-handed weapons, but it more than makes up for it with the perk and its high attack stat.

Sarcophagus Shield

Where: Dhustone Quarry, southwest of Quatford in Sciropescire.
Perk: Parrying has a chance to create a small fire around you.

This shield might be heavy, but paired with something like the Spinning Death flail, you'll be literally blazing through enemies. This shield has a high attack stat and the perk means that parrying an incoming attack is even more satisfying. If the weight is a concern, you can reduce this by equipping certain runes to lighten the load.

Recurve Bow

Where: Haervik Shipyard in Rygjafylke, Norway.
Perk: Increase attack when close to full health.

The Recurve Bow is a Predator Bow with a really useful perk. You're almost always guaranteed to benefit from the extra attack when sneaking around and taking out unsuspecting guards. And you can pick this bow up early on—before you leave Norway to head to England, in fact.

It's not the best bow in the game, but it boasts decent headshot damage. At the very least, it's a viable early-game alternative to Petra's Arc, which requires you to track down and kill all of the AC Valhalla legendary animals to obtain.

Sepulcher Axe

Where: Offchurch Crypt, southwest of Ravensthorpe in Ledecestrescire.
Perk: Ignite your weapon on fire after critical hits.

This two-handed axe is a decent choice if you prefer a longer reach than the one-handed variant. It's not the quickest weapon in the world, but it makes up for its lack of speed with the high attack stat. This weighty axe also ignites frequently, so if you like your Saxons crispy, this is the weapon for you.

Excalibur

Where: Myrdinn's Cave at Stonehenge.
Perk: Heavy finishers and criticals blind all enemies around.

Excalibur is a greatsword and boasts high attack, stun, and critical chance stats, and the perk is pretty decent too. This is one of the best weapons you can get in Valhalla. But before you go rushing off to Hamtunscire to fetch it, you should know that there is a lot of work you'll need to do before you can get your hands on this powerful legendary sword.

You'll need to collect all the Treasure of Britain tablets, including three from the AC Valhalla Zealots that wander 9th century England. You can find all the details in this AC Valhalla Excalibur guide.

Gae Bolg

Where: Connacht, Deidre's Hut
Perk:
Lightning shocks the enemy after 3 consecutive hits

Added with the Wrath of the Druids DLC, Gae Bolg is a two-handed mythic tier spear. Gae Bolg's special ability is a powerful one, fitting for the DLC. To earn this one, you'll have to complete the Wrath of the Druids main quest line before going back to Deidre.
