The Matrix Resurrections trailer is cool as hell

As promised, the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth film in the Matrix series that started way back in 1999, is now live, and you can watch it in full above.

The trailer doesn't make a whole lot of sense on its own and I'm not enough of a Matrix fan to dive deep into possible subtexts or references (I love the first film but don't have much use for Reloaded or Revolutions), but it seems that Neo and Trinity have lost their memories—most of them, anyway—and are back in the thrall of the machines. How? Why? Will Young Morpheus (if that guy is in fact Young Morpheus, although for my money it's Laurence Fishburne or nothing) save them?

I have no idea. What I do know is that, damn, it looks good: Stylish, sexy, and oh-so-cool. White Rabbit blasting in the background may account for a good portion of that (and full credit to the producers for sticking with the original rather than inflicting some awful, groaning downtempo cover on us) but the bottom line is that, coherent or not, this is a good trailer—and with no help from Hideo Kojima, no less.

The Matrix Resurrections is set to debut in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. You can find out more at matrixresurrections.net.
