There are so many gaming monitors on the market, that choosing one can quickly become bewildering. Fortunately, MSI has created a do-it-all gaming monitor that’s ideal for all levels of gamer – plus those who also need something for work.
It uses new Tandem QD-OLED technology and features a plethora of innovations to improve your immersion, boost your productivity and, most important of all, enhance your gaming performance! It’s called the MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 and here’s what you need to know...
What’s great about the MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36?
At its core, MSI’s MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 is a large, ultrawide, 34-inch, 1440p gaming monitor with a great many image-enhancing, performance-boosting and lifespan-extending augmentations.
First up, there’s the high-resolution, 3440 x 1440 panel which uses the latest, five-layer, 5th-Gen, Tandem QD-OLED panel. The primary benefits of Tandem OLED derive from having two stacked panels which simultaneously boost brightness, improve energy efficiency and enhance lifespan. The 5th-Gen panel’s special ‘RGB Stripe’ sub-pixel arrangement then goes further by making graphics sharper through colour-fringing minimisation and boosting text clarity through the reduction of spidery aberrations that surround lettering on lower-quality rivals.
On top of this (literally) is MSI’s special DarkArmor layer, which delivers 40 per cent deeper blacks for superior contrast. It does this by improving light absorption and eliminating the distracting purple and reddish halos that are often visible around objects on standard QD-OLEDs. DarkArmor also makes the screen’s surface significantly more robust: it’s physically harder and more scratch-resistant by a factor of 2.5x.
Particularly notable is the MSI Exclusive ‘Uniform Luminance HDR Customisation Curve’ optimisation. This complex-sounding image enhancement further-augments an already-impressive (1,300-nit peak brightness) HDR range by optimising the lighting curve to prevent unnatural rapid changes in brightness. This means you can simply select whether you want improved immersion through brilliant lighting effects, or dialled-down distractions that provide better visibility across a battlefield. This can be activated automatically or customised to your personal preference.
As if that’s not enough, MSI has pushed its HDR technology further still by adding EOTF Boost Mode which enhances both brightness and contrast in dark scenes for a clearer picture.
A gamer’s dream screen
While the science behind such image enhancements is difficult for anyone to get their head around, gamers will immediately warm to the super-fast 360Hz refresh rate marrying with an incredibly quick 0.03 second pixel response time, plus Nvidia G-Sync, to display super-smooth graphics that won’t drop frames or tear, even at high resolutions. All display lag is banished to a degree where even the most competitive shooters won’t grumble.
Other gaming optimisations include MSI’s array of smart crosshairs and AI Vision enhancements that let players customise their on-screen display according to the type of game they’re playing. Everything can be accessed and adjusted using the OSD menu and joystick button or (more easily) through MSI’s Gaming Intelligence app. Settings can be activated automatically when a particular game is launched and saved and exported in the form of different profiles to share with friends or teammates.
In addition to different shapes and sizes, AI Crosshair changes colour according to the background so that you never lose sight of it. Meanwhile, AI Vision flattens contrast, boosts lighting and enhances colour saturation to more-easily identify enemies and stop them hiding in shadows and highlights. All features can be set automatically or tinkered with until everything is just so.
Other quality of life improvements include a new Y-Shaped stand (with smaller footprint) that allows your monitor to sit closer to a wall and Windows Dynamic Lighting that lets you sync RGB directly through Windows. There’s also a 98-Watt USB-C connector that can conveniently charge your device using the input cable.
Quality that lasts
Of course, if you’re investing in a premium gaming monitor, you’re going to want it to last, and MSI has taken great steps to ensure that the MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 won’t age like other OLED monitors. That’s down to the third generation of its MSI OLED Care (version 3.0) technology which uses multiple techniques to avoid image burn-in and fading. Of particular note is the AI Care Sensor, which detects when you’re in front of your screen and implements adaptive dimming when you’re away (it also intelligently wakes back up, when you’re back).
There are also Pixel Shift, Panel Protect and Static Screen Detection technologies to further-avoid burn in. Plus, it can even recognise (and take action regarding) on-screen app icons (reduces their luminance), Boundary Detection (high-contrast edges are dimmed), Taskbar Detection (localised brightness lowering) and Multi-Logo Detection (luminance reduction within video content).
This all enables MSI to provide a three-year, anti-burn-in Warranty with the MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36 giving you peace of mind that your investment will last.
