Earlier this year, graphics cards were nearly impossible to find at a good price, thanks to cryptocurrency miners causing massive supply shortages. Now that the GPU mining craze has worn off, graphics cards are finally below MSRP again.
There have been plenty of great GPU deals lately, but you can expect steeper discounts this Black Friday and Cyber Monday. In this post, we'll go over what kind of sales you can expect to see in the weeks ahead, and what you should keep an eye out for.
What to expect from GPU deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday
Graphics card prices have finally returned to normal, after the year-long cryptocurrency-induced shortage. Now that manufacturers have plenty of excess stock, you can expect to see some great deals this year.
Nvidia just launched its brand new RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti cards, finally bringing ray-tracing to mainstream hardware. Because these products are still new, don't expect to see major discounts. However, there will almost certainly be great deals on last-gen GTX 10-series cards, like the GTX 1080 and 1070. Companies like EVGA and Gigabyte have already been clearing out their inventories of old GPUs with recent sales.
AMD hasn't had any major graphics card launches this year, so you should expect the same $40-60 off discounts we saw during the last Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Best Black Friday and Cyber Monday GPU deals from last year
ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 Mini | $500
Even though this is the regular price now, a GTX 1080 for $500 was a fantastic deal during last year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As you might imagine, it sold out quickly.
PowerColor RED DRAGON Radeon RX 580 8GB | $240
This RX 580 for $240 was also a killer deal last year, but now it's about the regular price.
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING | $740 ($30 off)
During last year's Black Friday, this GTX 1080 Ti from EVGA could be had for $740 from Newegg. Now you can find 1080 Ti cards for $700, or occasionally as low as $620.
