Prototype 2 gets two-month delay on PC

The PC version of Prototype 2 has been pushed back eight weeks to July 24 according to a message posted on the Prototype 2 Facebook page. Is the PC version having development problems? Are extra bits being added to the PC version? We don’t know, but Radical say “we’ll share more details with you soon.” Console versions are set arrive on April 24 in the US and April 27 in Europe.

The delay will push the release date past the series of weekly unlocks that will come with the newly announced Radnet edition of Prototype 2. The special edition won’t cost more than the standard edition, but owners will get access to weekly challenges to earn extra in-game rewards like new mutations for Heller. We’ll have to wait and see if these extra bits will make their way to the PC version two months later. Get a sense of how it’s shaping up from our Prototype 2 preview.

Darksiders 2 screenshots show new creatures, monstrous axe

If death dies on the battlefield, who comes to claim his soul? What happens to everyone else who dies when death’s not about? Darksiders 2 probably won’t answer these questions, but it definitely will let you hit things with a giant axe. You like hitting things with a giant axe, right? See a gallery of the various things you can hit with a giant axe in the latest batch of Darksiders 2 screenshots below.

Darksider’s creature design was one of its stand-out features. You could make friends with giant stone doors. Instead of opening like a normal door, they’d turn into a lumbering stone golem and wander off. More of this sort of thing, please, creature designers.

Darksiders 2 trailer talks Death, destruction and “Swiss army scythes”

Some Darksider 2 developers gather on THE PLAINS OF LIMBO to chat about the sequel’s new hero, Death. Compared to his brother, War, he’s more agile, more serious and more purple. He has access to niftier weaponry as well, including his “Swiss Army Scythe,” a pair of vicious sickles that can combine into a mighty scythe at Death’s will. The first Darksiders had some decent demon-bashing. A speedier, more exotic hero should liven up the formula a bit.

THQ respond to Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online cancellation rumours

Warhammer Dark Millennium Online

Rumours spread over the weekend suggesting that the Warhammer 40,000 MMO Dark Millennium Online had been cancelled, along with THQ’s planned 2014 releases. THQ denied the rumours saying they have “not cancelled its 2014 line-up, and has not made any decisions regarding their planned MMO.”

The rumours started when Kevin Dent, 12 year industry veteran and CEO of the video games consultancy practice Tiswaz Entertainment, tweeted a series of rumours about THQ’s future. “Apparently, The Game Workshops MMO has been cancelled by THQ” he tweeted, adding that “I am hearing everything (in 2014 is canceled), they need to preserve cash.”

South Park screenshots show combat, elves, hippies, hammers

South Park - the gang

Some new screenshots of Obsidian’s South Park RPG have appeared on The Guardian. They look uncannily similar to the TV show, which somehow only seems to compound the strangeness of the fact that the creators of Fallout: New Vegas are making a South Park game. Is it really happening? It must be.

The Guardian mention that the show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are writing the game, and have forwarded oodles of artwork and style guides from the TV series onto Obsidian. That explains why the screens are so authentic. Combat will be turn based, with your party lining up on the left and an array of enemies on the right. Soda pop and coffee can be used to buff your team, who will be made up of the shows most famous stars.

It’s due out sometime this year. The screens below show plenty of combat, and an instance in which Butters attacks a hippy with a massive hammer.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – PC Gamer UK’s RPG of the year

The Elder Scrolls games have been brilliant for long time: huge open worlds that let you go wherever you fancy, get wrapped up in hundreds of different stories, and make a life for yourself. But until Skyrim, they weren’t particularly good at one of the most exciting things about other RPGs: levelling up.

Epic, Bioware, Bioshock Infinite reveals planned for VGAs, new THQ announcement this month

Bioshock Infinite

Now that the release armageddon that is November is over, it’s time for everyone to announce some new projects. The next week or so will be bustling with new announcements from Bioware, Epic and THQ, and we’ll get our first look at Bioshock Infinite for a while at this weekend’s Spike TV Video Game Awards ceremony.

First up, Bioware. They’ve been busy teasing a new game from a new studio in the run up to Saturday’s show, with a teaser image and a tiny trailer clip. With EA registering a number of Command & Conquer domain names recently, there’s speculation that a new C&C may be revealed.

Saints Row: The Third stats: 2 million killed by dildos, 44 million killed in Whored Mode

Saints Row The Third dildo attack

The innocent bystander you just murdered with a giant dildo in Saints Row: The Third isn’t alone. He shares a special circle of gaming hell occupied by 1,999,999 other victims who suffered the same terrible fate.

That’s just one of the stats turned up by a new post on the Saints Row: The Third site, spotted on Shacknews. 5.8 million player deaths have been recorded across the city, 44 million foes have been killed in Whored Mode, 650 hot dog mascots have been flamethrowered to death and players have collectively spent two years “streaking the streets of Steelport and making old ladies scream.” You monsters.

But how many hours have been spent rushing around Steelport as a toilet? I have no idea. Whatever the number, it’s not high enough. Follow Graham’s guide to being a toilet in Saints Row: The Third to help boost the tally. For the Saints!

Saints Row: The Third released in the UK

Several days after it was released for the rest of the world Saints Row: The Third has come out in the UK. Huzzah! Now we can finally experience all the fun Tom S had in our Saints Row 3 review! However, like several other recent games, it’s missing from the steam store in the UK. Boo! Hiss! This sadly means UK players won’t be able to get the Saints Row 3 Team Fortress 2 promotional items. You can, however, still buy the game digitally via Gamersgate, Direct2Drive or Origin.

Once again, we wish we knew why steam is being affected by these absences and no-one else is, but we’re being kept in the dark as much as you are. Rest assured, if we ever find out, we’ll let you know.

Saints Row: The Third launch trailer revels in its own insanity

Saints Row 3 has been released in North America and VG247 have spotted a demented celebratory launch trailer. This one is short but sweet, at least compared to the earlier seven minute gameplay trailer. Pay careful attention and you’ll spot some of the highlights mentioned in Tom S’s Saints Row 3 review. The autotuned pimp is hard to miss, but the car tiger and the cloned Russian super soldiers only appear briefly. That sentence really tells you everything you need to know about Saints Row: The Third.

Those of you outside the UK must have your hands on Saints Row by now, what do you think?

We have a winner! Saints Row: The Third custom PC giveaway

SRTT PC

Congratulations to Logan Tenhet of Tennessee! He’s the randomly selected winner of this blinged-out, custom-painted Saints Row: The Third gaming rig, courtesy of THQ. It always makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside to see an awesome prize like this go to a deserving guy like Logan, who says he’s been reading PC Gamer since way back in 1995. We know he’ll give it a good home.

Now is a fantastic time to have a new PC, since it’ll play not just the hilariously great Saints Row: The Third, but also the amazingly awesome Skyrim, the mind-blowingly pretty Battlefield 3, and (eventually) the irritatingly tardy but inevitably awesome Batman: Arkham City.

For $2.99, THQ will sell you a pack of Saints Row 3 cheats

We just noticed that there’s already some Saints Row: The Third downloadable content available on Steam. Only not all of it is actually content.

The Shark Attack Pack is priced at $1.99. You get a hat and the Shark-O-Matic – a weapon that shoots out “a steady steam of fish guts,” for your cash. We’ve spent money on hats and weapons before. That sounds like content.

Saints Row: The Third released

UPDATE – It turns out Saints Row is available in the rest of Europe, only the UK has to wait till Friday. Apologies to those of you on the continent for assuming we were in the same boat.

Saints Row: The Third has been released! For North Americans at least, those of us in Europe the UK must instead wait and silently curse until Friday. They’ll also get their hands on the Saints Row 3 Team Fortress items, while UK citizens must once again suffer the indignity of seeing a game go missing from our Steam store.

What’s that? You’d like to know how good the game is? Why it’s 83 good! As scientifically determined by Tom Senior in our Saints Row: The Third review. Go read it! It’s a tale of tigers, naked Russian men and autotuned pimps.

Team Fortress 2 gets Saints Row: The Third outfit

Saints Row Heavy

With Team Fortress 2 items appearing in Saints Row, it was only a matter of time before the reverse also became true. Now Joystiq have spotted a post on the TF2 blog that reveals new TF2 items for those that pre-order Saints Row: The Third over steam.

The bonuses take the form of a new outfit for the Heavy, giving him a diamond encrusted Lucha Libre mask, a pair of bling covered boxing gloves and a Saints Row fleur-de-lis badge (which can also be worn by other classes). The TF2 blog claims it’s a faithful recreation of the outfit Mikhail Gorbachev wore when he accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990… er… indeed.

Sadly, getting hold of this outfit will be problematic for UK users, as Saints Row: The Third is yet another game that is inexplicably missing from steam in the UK. As ever, we’re trying to get to the bottom of this story, but no-one is willing to talk to us about it.

Outrageous Saints Row stunt #8438129: Jet-surfing

Saints Row: The Third is only a few days away from wreaking unbridled havoc on your home, so view this new trailer as a victory lap. Off a skyscraper. Onto a fighter jet. Sure, Rico from Just Cause did it first, but that just raises a more important issue: Why don’t all games let us hop atop jets and travel in style? Watch the above trailer. Now imagine any other game. Feels empty, right? I rest my case.

While you’re at it, enter to win a custom-painted Saints Row PC!
