Surgeon Simulator gets Anniversary Edition DLC

Surgeon Simulator was released on 19 April, 2013. That makes its Anniversary Edition DLC a little late, as it released last week. Still, given the uncoordinated flailing of its central protagonist, a few mistakes are to be expected. The paid-for pack enhances the game with new graphics, extra environments and two new operations.


Cities: Skylines announced by Cities In Motion developer

It's janitorial time at PCG Towers, as we mop up the last few stories of Gamescom. Here's one: the announcement of Cities: Skylines, the new game from the people behind Cities In Motion. This time, rather than create and manage the transport system of pre-built city, you'll create and manage every aspect of a non-pre-built city.


King's Quest Reboot "is not a point-and-click game" but it's still an adventure

The new King's Quest game will not be a point-and-click adventure game, but it will be an adventure game, according to Activision's MacLean Marshall. Newly announced at Gamescom last week, King's Quest will release under the Sierra mantle, which Activision last week resuscitated for its digital, indie-leaning titles. While some no doubt hoped for a revamped point-and-click adventure in the vein of older King's Quest titles, that is not what we're going to get.


Star Citizen FPS, exploration and racing modules shown off at Gamescom

Roberts Space Industries has teased Star Citizen racing and first-person shooting during its Gamescom livestream on Saturday. Embedded below, the racing video is generous enough, providing a pretty solid idea of where the team is headed. Meanwhile the first-person shooting module remains a bit of a mystery, with the fairly unhelpful video below revealing little except that more will be shown at PAX Australia in November.


Project CARS trailer veers slowly, melodramatically out of Gamescom

Project CARS is looking very beautiful indeed, but you won't appreciate the full extent of its beauty until you've seen the above Gamescom 2014 trailer. With its plaintive piano accompaniment, it really captures the inherent melancholy of driving expensive cars around in circles for fun.


Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers trailer shows off remake's new art, music and mullets

It's always a shame to see evocative pixel art binned in favour of awkwardly animated 3D character models, but this remake of the first Gabriel Knight doesn't look too bad, considering the weird, gangly Moebius was what Phoenix Online and Pinkerton Road brought us last time. (The new backgrounds, at least, are a real treat.) Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition redoes all the art and music, adds new content to the game, and buffs Gabriel's mullet with henna or something—I mean, it's glorious. Mullets and mystery reside in the trailer, below.

Now that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been confirmed for PC, we can indulge in gameplay footage knowing one day we'll walk in Snake's weary footsteps. The footage below was aired during a Gamescom livestream earlier this week, but thanks to YouTuber Shirrako it's available to those who missed it.


Assassin's Creed: Unity gameplay video shows 12 minutes of new mechanics

Amid the churn of 30 second CGI trailers and cleverly cut (but mostly useless) 'gameplay' videos, it's nice to see Assassin's Creed: Unity played for a full 12 minutes with no interruptions. The video above details the new installment's revamped stealth systems, and demonstrates the increased freedom afforded to players this time around. It also looks pretty damn fine.


Shadow Realms interview: BioWare sending out alpha invites next month

Shadow Realms will be playable sooner than anyone expected. BioWare only announced the 4v1 action RPG at Gamescom on Wednesday, but speaking after the EA press conference BioWare Austin General Manager Jeff Hickman revealed that alpha invites will be arriving in players’ inboxes next month. "I've never put a game into a player's hands as early as we're putting this game into players' hands," he told PC Gamer.

Overkill are making a The Walking Dead game

Overkill Software—you know, the guys who made Payday and Payday 2—have announced that they're making a new game based on The Walking Dead. Described as a co-op FPS "with elements of action, role-playing, survival horror and stealth", we can only hope it'll better than Activision's attempt to turn the series into a shooter.


Company of Heroes 2: Ardennes Assault announced, relives Battle of the Bulge

Company of Heroes 2’s latest standalone expansion was described by Winston Churchill as “undoubtedly the greatest American battle of the war.” Well, he wasn't referring to the expansion per se because Churchill is long dead (sorry to break it to you), but rather the battle it’s based on—the Battle of the Bulge.


Guild Wars 2 to get second Feature Pack update, is currently 50% off

Back in April, Guild Wars 2 had a break from its regular content releases, and instead received a bumper bundle of features. Now, ArenaNet have announced that they're doing it again, only this time it will launch in September. Naturally, they're calling it the September Feature Pack.

In a completely unrelated announcement, the game is also 50% off until 28 August.


Gamescom 2014: all the stories from day two

The Crew gameplay trailer showcases modes and spectacular collisions

The Crew releases November 11, and while you may have partaken in the recent closed beta, that's no reason to pass over this new gameplay trailer showing off some of the racer's modes. It's a guarantee of sorts that during your travels across Ubisoft Reflections' interpretation of the United States, you'll be doing more than sightseeing. You'll be crashing into other cars on purpose, for instance.


CS:GO championship ESL One Cologne begins today

Competitive Counter-Strike continues to draw a healthy amount of spectators as Valve’s FPS has grown significantly since the end of 2013. Following Katowice earlier this year, the ESL Championship begins 3 AM Eastern on Thursday, the first matches of ESL One Cologne 2014 will kick off in Germany, culminating in a final match on Sunday.


PC gamers have to fight for PC gaming, and Metal Gear Solid V is a big win

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is releasing on PC, and that’s great news. Rise of the Tomb Raider isn’t releasing on PC, not right away, at least, and that’s not so great. But what it does mean is that console manufacturers see us as competition, and we’re doing pretty well. We attracted a massive game with MGSV, and we’re scary enough that Microsoft has gobbled up Tomb Raider for the Xbox.


Battlefield Hardline unveils 12-minute single-player trailer and new "Rescue" multiplayer mode

EA's Battlefield games, generally speaking, aren't known for the strength of their single-player campaigns, and Battlefield Hardline looked set to stick to that tradition when it was first revealed as a multiplayer cops-and-robbers blast-fest. But EA seems determined to make single-player a relevant part of the experience, and the 12 minutes gameplay trailer released today suggests that it might actually be able to pull it off.


Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer teases a cannon-packing Claptrap

Watching this new "Last Hope" trailer leaves me with a powerful urge to say, "Meet the new Borderlands—same as the old Borderlands," but that's not really a surprise, is it? Nor is it even something to complain about, really. After all, there are worse things you could end up with than more Borderlands, especially when Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel lets you dress Claptrap up like a heavily-armed, hat-wearing pirate ship.
