Duet Night Abyss is shedding its gacha shackles for a true free-to-play action RPG experience
No RNG, no stamina, no stress.
If you think you know everything about free-to-play action RPGs, think again: Pan Studio is here to shake things up with the newly launched Duet Night Abyss, overhauling its monetisation system to provide a truly fair experience that's friendly to all free-to-play gamers.
With no stamina limits and no more gacha banners for obtaining characters or weapons, Duet Night Abyss allows players to focus on its enthralling combat, ever-evolving visuals and dual-narrative storyline that will follow two protagonists, both of whom are freely playable and able to be deployed across different chapters.
They'll be assisted by a whole host of supporting characters as you take on various commissions, facing against hordes of enemies to nab rewards and strengthen your party. They can be taken on alongside two AI companions—helping you keep your focus on your main characters—or team up with up to three friends and take on commissions in co-op mode.
There’s a whole host of both melee and ranged weapons to choose from, and weapons won't be locked to any character either, allowing you to freely customise builds to your heart's desire. Make full use of weaponry like dual pistols, bows, whipswords, and sabres as you slash and gun your way through each wave.
Movement also serves as an important tool in your arsenal in Duet Night Abyss. Make use of abilities like the Helix Leap, Sprint, and Grappling Hook for ultra-slick traversal without any energy limits, as well as being able to make use of the one-click Helix Leap, which makes movement accessible for everybody.
Fight your way through three different commissions: characters, weapons, and Demon Wedges. The latter is an excellent way to fight your way with a customisable playstyle. Demon Wedges are a one-click assembly that lets you build out different attack patterns and stats to suit your style of gameplay. Some might offer a flat boost to attack or health, while others can totally alter skill mechanics that can open up new ways to fight.
And thanks to the removal of a stamina bar, it means you can tackle these commissions to gain access to Demon Wedges how and when you want to—no having to wait hours for a meter to refill before attempting a commission, and no having to keep track of timers so that your stamina doesn't cap out.
That's not all: Duet Night Abyss also takes a more straightforward approach to obtaining characters and weapons. Gone are gacha banners and star ratings—characters are earned without randomness, either by purchasing shards (and you can purchase the exact number of shards you need!) or freely obtaining and upgrading them by collecting shards from their corresponding Secret Letter.
Duet Night Abyss's launch features seven characters available just through completing tasks in-game, allowing you to get off on the right foot with multiple parties ready to take on every commission thrown your way.
Weapons can even be crafted for free, obtained through good old-fashioned grinding in-game. All required actions and materials are clearly listed. Just select the weapon you like, and collect materials in your own time. Minimal stress.
If you're looking for a more personalised experience, Duet Night Abyss offers a wide array of cosmetic customisation for your characters, allowing you to present them to your own personal tastes. With some gorgeous character skins and accessories to choose from—like Psyche's Minuet Reverie or Rebecca's Veils and Whispers—there's sure to be an outfit that expresses you and your party.
Pan Studio has been hard at work to make the system top-notch, too, implementing new animations and upgraded effects to present the highest-quality character skins. Feel free to dye both costumes and weapons, too, for all sorts of unique styles.
Duet Night Abyss has been hotly anticipated, and thanks to gamers already contributing over 15 million global pre-registrations, you can nab a whole host of rewards when the game arrives today, like a copy of Berenica and a ton of Pristine Hourglass.
There are social media rewards and redemption codes up for grabs, as well as obtaining more Pristine and Prismatic Hourglass—gacha tickets for character skins—through just logging in. You can also obtain up to a whopping 107 Hourglass just by participating in the game's launch event.
If you're ready and raring to dive into the world of Atlasia, you can get involved right away. Duet Night Abyss releases as both a standalone launcher and on the Epic Game Store today, with a Steam release to follow in the future. You can also play the game on mobile via the App Store or Google Play Store.
