Survival co-op game Frozen Flame is out now in early access, with a full campaign ready for you and your buddies to play through. Set in the gorgeous and vast fantasy world of Arcana, the game is a mix of Valheim-style exploration and survival, with an in-depth action RPG combat system and some magical surprises along the way.

At Frozen Flame's heart is exploring the game's world Arcana, which was once ruled by dragons, but now it's a rotting land blighted by curse, with the ever-looming Ice Citadel at the heart of this rot. Think of Sauron's tower: you can see this thing from almost everywhere in the world. The Ice Citadel is home to the Faceless, an unknowably powerful being that is sending waves of destruction across this world, attempting to freeze it in ice for eternity.

Which is a pity, because this place is absolutely beautiful, even if it's very dangerous indeed. Arcana is a land of magic and the procedural topography reflects this, with floating islands and 'impossible' geography unique to each playthrough. The titular Frozen Flame givesplayers ability to fly, among other things, allowing you to take off and navigate these mystical configurations.

Exploring is one side of Frozen Flame, and building a keep to do this from is essential. The waves sent out by the Faceless make the landscape near-uninhabitable at times and your merry band will need protection from the elements. Over time your home will become a fortress, a safe place to store your growing hoard and fight back against the curse.

You improve your chances of doing so by seeking out the knowledge of your ancestors, once beings of great power and skill. Across Arcana their essences can be found and absorbed in order to bring these powers back and develop your own skills. Frozen Flame's deep RPG progression allows players to shape their playstyle over time, and develop the skills you'll need to confront the Faceless.

Finally, Frozen Flame allows players to customize their experience. A dedicated survival mode will be added to the game post-launch. You can choose to host a server with custom rules, maybe one that's just for chilled-out building, or one that ratchets up the world's population of fierce enemies.

There are many survival RPGS, but none set in a world quite so fantastical-looking as Arcana. There's almost an element to Breath of the Wild's Hyrule in these mystical floating islands and the raw grandeur of its scale. There's the classic fantasy vibes of going out with your co-op crew to take down something huge, or forge into some forbidding new locale, but in a unique and beautiful setting like no other.

Frozen Flame is out now on Steam in early access. Much is planned to be added over the next year, and you can keep up with development on Facebook, Twitter, Discord, and YouTube.
