Star Wars: Battlefront gameplay teased in E3 2014 behind-the-scenes video

Tyler Wilde at

Last year at E3 2013, EA announced that Star Wars: Battlefront will return. This year, we see that DICE has indeed been developing Star Wars: Battlefront with a behind-the-scenes trailer to kick off EA's 2014 press conference. Excellent.

E3 2014 predictions from the PC Gamer team

PC Gamer at

The Electronic Three is nigh. Next week, the entire gaming industry will descend on E3 2014, eager for big announcements at flashy press conferences and as many video games as can fit in LA's massive convention center. There will be new PC games and new PC hardware. That's all expected. But what about the unexpected? What E3 announcements will blow our minds? Is this the year Gabe Newell finally walks onto a stage and says "Half-Life 3 is done, and you can play it right now," and we all leave E3 early?

Probably not. As we psyche ourselves up for E3, the PC Gamer staff have made some wild and not-so-wild predictions about Oculus and Steam Machines and the biggest surprises we'll see at this year's show.

Star Wars: Battlefront to be shown in more detail at E3, says EA's CEO

Phil Savage at

I can't keep up with what is and isn't Star Wars canon these days. Is EA's new Star Wars: Battlefront part of the Expanded Universe? Will it instead be relegated to the new "Legends" branch? More importantly, how does Evan's Droid Jedi diary fit into any of this? Rather than consult my panel of bearded lore-men, I'll instead console myself with knowing that we'll be seeing more of the game at E3.

Star Wars: Battlefront II multiplayer ends with GameSpy, GameRanger comes to the rescue

Emanuel Maiberg at

On May 31, GameSpy’s online matchmaking client will shut down, meaning the games that still use it will have to find a different solution or lose online functionality. So far, publishers and developers responded well, migrating most of the games you care about to Valve’s Steamworks. Today, we learned that Disney, which acquired LucasArts last year, will not do the same for Star Wars: Battlefront II. Luckily, GameRanger already has us covered.

Reinstall: Star Wars Battlefront II

Samuel Roberts at

Reinstall invites you to join us in revisiting classics of PC gaming days gone by. This week, editor Sam Roberts revisits the massively popular multiplayer shooter Star Wars: Battlefront II.

There’s been some serious money left on the table with Star Wars: Battlefront III's ongoing non-existence in the last nine years. Lucasarts’ changes in management, Free Radical’s collapse and EA’s purchase of Pandemic probably didn’t help matters, even if DICE's version is at least early into production now. What it means is that 2005’s Battlefront II is still somehow the best way of having large-scale Star Wars multiplayer battles on land (not so much in space), but despite that merit it’s been outstripped by most modern class-based multiplayer shooters.

Rumor: Star Wars: Battlefront is likely to come out in 2015

Katie Williams at

Modern developers' devotion to super awesomely rendered lens flares means that development times tend to run a little longer than they used to when we began gaming in the 1990s. Star Wars: Battlefront is no exception, having now been given a very vague estimated release window of summer 2015.

A new Battlefront game is one of those holy grails of PC gaming that we’ve all been dreaming about since we were losing sleep to Battlefront 2 in 2005. Now that we’ve got confirmation that DICE is working on the next chapter in the Battlefront saga, our heads are spinning with hopes and dreams from a galaxy far, far away. This week, we're finally going to finish talking about E3. We promise. Specifically, which games from the show that might come to the PC do we want to see on our platform the most? Plus, we go in-depth on Mojang's new card battle game thing, Scrolls. And T.J. claims to actually enjoy Marvel Heroes, but how do we really know he wasn't replaced by some kind of alien bent on the subjugation of Earth?

Star Wars: Battlefront could offer "huge, epic set-piece wars," says EA exec

Patrick Carlson at

As we saw in the teaser for DICE's upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront, the frigid ice planet Hoth will appear in the recently-announced reboot. The game already made our list as the biggest surprise of E3 this year, but how exactly the shooter will refashion such a well-known setting remains an open question. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has addressed this topic and more in a new interview with IGN.

PC Gamer's Best of E3 2013

PC Gamer at

Once you got past the spectacle of Microsoft and Sony competing for the honor of delivering the console that promised to annoy gamers the least, it was impossible not to see a fantastic year ahead for PC gamers. So that wasn’t the problem. The tough part was winnowing down the list of nominees for our Best in Show accolades.

The E3 2013 press conference PC gamers deserve

PC Gamer at

The press conferences that precede E3 set the tone for the event, they determine the conversations and questions that follow. With no single unifying organisation to set up such an event, it's one of those rare occasions when the open nature of the PC can prove a detriment. The consoles have had their say, now we can't help but wonder what a similar a show for the PC would look like. Who would take the stage? What would they show? What song-and-dance numbers would we get?

Take your seat, make yourself comfortable and put those Doritos away as we welcome you to this year's purely hypothetical show, the E3 2013 conference that PC gamers deserve.
