Dive into the surreal darkness of Silver Pines with deliciously violent combat and a mystery begging to be unraveled
Where is Eddie Velvet?
If you've ever craved the surreal darkness of Twin Peaks wrapped up in a survival horror metroidvania, you'll want to put Silver Pines on your radar immediately. A gorgeous, haunting, and unsettlingly violent quaint American town awaits you. One full of secrets lurking deep within the shadows of its past.
Take on the role of private investigator Red Walker as he seeks to track down missing musician Eddie Velvet while combating the nightmares Silver Pines throws your way. It's a stunning blend of the old and the new. As a love letter to classic survival horror, Silver Pines has plenty of that DNA running through its veins.
Run head-first into fights or flee from them in the name of staying alive. Scavenge every corner of the town for resources while juggling a limited inventory space. Even the most innocuous of items could be the key to solving a puzzle, so figuring out what to carry with you (and what to leave behind) will require thoughtful planning and strategising.
It's all the cool bits of 90s survival horror we look back fondly on while also innovating through metroidvania-style navigation and fast, loud combat. No tank controls and sluggish swings to be seen in Silver Pines. Shoot, stomp, dodge, and swing your crowbar at the town's horrors in deliciously visceral combat. It's still got all the challenge of both survival horror and metroidvania in its blood though.
And with Silver Pines being plush with hidden paths, locked doors, and clues begging to be uncovered, making use of its metroidvania-inspired map to effectively backtrack and reveal all of the town's secrets will be paramount to success.
All of this is dressed up in a gorgeous art style. Its rotoscoped 2D characters makes every move look like it's been pulled straight out of an animated movie, with fluid combat and realistic movement. Against stunning 3D backdrops with some real good mood lightning that adds to how dread-filled and oppressive Silver Pines feels.
From the way the rain hits against the front of your screen, to the gentle glow of the motel sign, to the harsh shadows as light blares through dusty old windows. It's got immaculate vibes all the way through, and really nails the surreal horror vibes to an absolute T.
