Star Wars: Battlefront 3's "99 percent done" claim contested by ex-LucasArts employee

A former LucasArts employee has called into question the claims made last week by Free Radical's co-founder, Steve Ellis, that Battlefront 3 was "a 99% finished game that just needed bug fixing for release."

Speaking to Gamespot, the anonymous source said, "this 99 percent complete stuff is just bullshit. A generous estimate would be 75 percent of a mediocre game."

Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was "99 percent done"

Way back in April, we got a hold of this video showing in-game footage of the cancelled shooter Star Wars: Battlefront 3. In a recent interview with gamesTM, Free Radical co-founder Steve Ellis revealed just how close the project was to completion when it got the merciless vibro-axe to its power converters. Yesterday a site found what appeared to be old Battlefront 3 files tucked away on the Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City disc. Today, VG247 spot footage of a work-in-progress build of Battlefront 3 has hit the web, showing action from the sequel that was being worked on by Free Radical, now abandoned.

Even though the project has been moved elsewhere, the footage provides a glimpse of what might have been. Skip to the 1:44 mark to get to the actual running/flying/shooting part. Watch, and imagine what a new Battlefront game would look like with the full power of a modern engine behind it.
