Star Wars: The Old Republic Q&A reveals plans for Legacy races and dual spec support in 1.2
Bioware have held the first of a new series of weekly Q&A sessions with Star Wars: The Old Republic players, with some more information on what we can expect from the upcoming 1.2 patch.
The Legacy system offers a shared level that exists across all TOR alts, but while it’s currently possible to gain Legacy levels, there are no rewards attached to them. Lead writer Daniel Erickson confirms that 1.2 will give players with Legacy levels access to a greater selection of races when creating new characters.
“The species that will be unlocked in Game Update 1.2 are species currently in the game that will become available to classes and factions where you haven’t seen them before,” says Erickson. “New species are in consideration for the future but we don’t have any details to share right now.” Jawa Jedi, anyone?
PC Gamer UK Podcast 64 – The Steam charts, Batman: Arkham City, The Old Republic

Tim, Tom Francis and Chris Thursten talk through the latest Steam charts, discuss Batman: Arkham City and its DLC (really, this time), worry that PC gaming has become too connected, answer some good questions from Twitter, and – with a lot of warning and only at the very end – discuss an exciting level-35 Imperial spoiler for The Old Republic. There are also spoilers for KOTOR and eventually Arkham City in this section.

The Old Republic chart shows you the path to 50, every planet and Flashpoint included
Today is a day of maps, apparently. OldRepublic.net just released an awesome galaxy guide that maps out the suggested path to progress through all of The Old Republic’s Flashpoints and planets.
It looks like I’ve already missed two Flashpoints on my new Sniper—whoops! Well, at least I shouldn’t have a problem beating them now that I’m 10 levels higher than the enemies there. I’ll be keeping this guide handy as I continue leveling up this weekend, and you can use it to avoid my same foolish mistakes.
Star Wars: The Old Republic data-mined updates hint at future features
The tireless chaps at TORhead have been pulling clues out of the Star Wars: The Old Republic files, and have found evidence of many of the features Bioware are planning to add over the course of the coming year. Their round-up contains features that we could see in patches 1.2 through to 1.5.
As a wise talking cabbage once said. “If spoilers you wish to avoid, click “Read and Comment” you must not.”
Star Wars: The Old Republic white lightsaber acquired through exploit, will be added officially in future
Yesterday we highlighted a big hunt in Star Wars: The Old Republic for a vaunted white crystal. One player had been showing off a silver saber, and dropping cryptic hints as to how it was acquired. It’s time to call off the search. Bioware have responded to say that the crystal was gained through a complex exploit, and isn’t yet officially part of the game.
“CatchDeathwalker did not obtain the white crystal through legitimate means in the game. Right now, we’re removing the crystal from his possession,” reads a post on the Star Wars: The Old Republic forums. A separate comment later in the thread elaborates. “This was not an ‘easy exploit’,” Bioware say “and not something the average player might ‘stumble upon’.”
Star Wars: The Old Republic players hunt for rumoured white lightsaber crystal
The magenta crystal was one of the most coveted items in Star Wars: The Old Republic, until now. One top level player has been spotted running around the TOR’s planets with a “whitesaber,” sparking a galaxy wide hunt for the white crystal.
The saber’s owner, Catch, posted his discovery on The Old Republic forums with pictures and item stats, and then livestreamed himself running around with the crystal to prove that it exists. So far, he’s kept the methods he used to obtain the crystal a closely guarded secret. The community has been poring over the few clues he’s given and, in some cases, been following him around to see if he’ll let slip any new info. There are several theories, some madder than others.
PC Gamer US Podcast #301: Drop the SOPA
This week, Lt. Logan, Chris #1 and Chris #2, and intern soldiers Greg and Gavin hunkered down in the PCG compound to prepare for all-out war on crappy legislation. Gavin gives us the scoop on the new TOR flashpoint, Kaon Under Siege, Greg patents his ingenious idea for 3D printers, and Logan lights a torch and passes out pitchforks around the office in preparation to take down SOPA.
New Old Republic trailer hints at expanded race options via the Legacy System
A few days ago, Bioware released a new teaser trailer that mostly taunted us with information we’ve already heard. Guildbanks? Yup. Warzones? Mmmhmm. Scaling UI? It’s about time.
What we didn’t expect was to see a Miraluka Sith Warrior opening a can of whoop-ass on some rusty droids. The Miraluka are a blind species who see the world through the Force, and are currently only available to Republic characters, but this particular Miraluka is dressed up like a Sith Warrior, an Empire-specific class. Could this mean that new class/race combinations are on the way?
Star Wars: The Old Republic patch tweaks Ilum, new trailer highlights upcoming features
Bioware have patched Star Wars: The Old Republic to fix some of the PvP problems on Ilum caused by the recent 1.1 update. A bug would allow players on a team to invade the other team’s base and camp their spawn points, taking valour points for every enemy kill. According to a post on the TOR forums, that should no longer be possible.
The cheeky Ewoks who took full advantage of the exploit will have gained masses of valour. There’s no mention of any plans for stat-rollbacks prompting fears that the campers would get to retain all their ill-gotten rewards. Community manager Joveth Gonzalez says “we’re definitely aware of individuals who took extreme advantage of this situation and we will be carefully evaluating and taking action as necessary.”
Struggling to cancel your subscription to Star Wars: The Old Republic? You’re not alone
Star Wars: The Old Republic will be one month old tomorrow. If you’ve played enough Star Wars to last you a lifetime, now’s the time to cancel your subscription. Some people are finding it difficult to find the “unsubscribe” button, however.
According to this entry TOR’s help centre, the unsubscribe link should be accessible from your accounts page. Then you should be able to “click on the ‘Subscription’ button in the sidebar and choose the option to ‘Cancel my Subscription’ from your main subscription page.” Those of us in the office that tried to unsubscribe this way found ourselves at a screen asking us to set up a subscription plan, even though according to our accounts, we were already subscribed.
SWTOR patch 1.1 officially set to launch tomorrow
Not a very long, long time ago at all, BioWare put a damper on eager SWTOR players’ plans with a delay for patch 1.1. The Rakghouls, the RPG powerhouse said, would rise – as they are wont to do – “within the next few days.” Happily, that means tomorrow, as it turns out. The ceremonial eight hours of downtime – originally scheduled to occur this morning – have now light-speed jumped to tomorrow’s early/less early hours. More specifically, patch prep will run from 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET) until 10AM CST (8AM PST/11AM EST/4PM GMT/5PM CET). So it’s kind of like a SOPA protest, but with free presents at the end!
Star Wars: The Old Republic patch 1.1 delayed, will arrive “within the next few days”
Patch 1.1 for Star Wars: The Old Republic has been delayed to fix some last minute problems. If you were looking forward to logging on later to enjoy the new Flashpoint, expanded operations and smooth, anti-aliased edges of 1.1, you’ll have to wait a little longer.
In a post on the TOR community blog, the devs say that the delay is down to a series of issues that “were primarily brought to our attention by the diligent players on the Public Test Server Forums.” The update was supposed to go live this morning.
Will you renew your Star Wars: The Old Republic subscription?
Star Wars: The Old Republic has been out for almost a month, which means the game time that came with the game will soon expire. Million of NPCs have been force-choked, lightsabered and shot, the PvP battlegrounds have claimed the lives of many, and if our guilds are anything to go by, many have already reached the level 50 cap.
So here’s the big question. Will you let TOR take out that first monthly payment and continue playing, or are you ready to cancel and walk away. If so, why?
Hutts in mechs and other reasons to play The Old Republic’s new Operation
Earlier today, we showed off the new survival-horror Flashpoint being added to The Old Republic in next week’s content update, but what’s in that patch 1.1 goodie bundle for raiders, like the heroes of the PCG US guild running weekly raid nights? How about a revamped Rancor, an homage to Bauldur’s Gate, and the best Hutt battle you’ve ever seen in your life? Lead Flashpoint, Operation and PvP Designer Gabe Amatangelo dished the dirt on the new raid content coming next week.
The Old Republic tries out survival-horror with its next endgame Flashpoint, Kaon Under Siege
It’s easy to forget that the world of Star Wars is filled with dirty, scary places–it’s not all Gungan cities and Ewok campfires. BioWare’s tapping into this darker side of Star Wars in the first Flashpoint added to The Old Republic after its launch, in the big Rise of the Rakghouls update coming on January 17th. It looks spooky, frantic, and – most importantly – will feature a full story with group choices and consequences, much like the game’s first two Flashpoints: Black Talon and Esseles.
