RollerCoaster Tycoon is back!

RCTW BoxFront final

It's been far too long since we've accidentally sent theme park guests flying to their fiery deaths on a half-built roller coaster, or exploited their need for hydration to make a cheap buck at the concession stand. But our beloved Roller Coaster Tycoon is back, with their newest entry: RollerCoaster Tycoon World!

The 3D world looks beautiful, the track editor looks insanely fun to play with, and the hefty heap of stats and simulation going on behind-the-scenes with park guests adds a lot of depth to the game. The dev team actually teamed up with Six Flags to analyze walking routes, park design, and the intricacies of what makes a roller coaster awesome.

Park attendees (peeps) have individual likes and dislikes and will search out what they're craving and cringe at visual themes if you're just cobbling together random ideas. It all sounds a bit like the sort of management and AI tinkering that we love and should help us expand beyond our usual plan of combining cheap popcorn with expensive soda into more traumatizing—I mean, exciting?—scenarios for the peeps.

The series is fully embracing the internet as well, with awesome sharing tools, user-generated content, and Steam Workshop support providing tons of room for creative players to show off their stuff.

We're so happy to see RollerCoaster Tycoon making a comeback, and this looks like the best one yet!

3 Pieces of Tech in RCTW We Didn't Even Know We Needed

These evolutions to RollerCoaster Tycoon are absolutely brilliant, and now we can't live without them!

1. Powerful 3D Building Tools

You will love the complete freedom of designing your own theme park in a grid-less, 3D world. Freeform object placement gives meticulous designers the opportunity to drop every single in-game object anywhere they choose. You can lay out curved paths, alter the landscape with powerful terraforming capabilities, or use the new 3D track editor to engineer the most insane, face-melting rides you can possibly imagine!

2. Extensive Customization

The ability to create custom content for import into the game? Check. Full mod support and sharing through Steam Workshop?Check. A freeform camera to view my park from every conceivable angle? Check.

3. Next-Gen Simulation

This is classic RCT gameplay, made even better by today’s technology, like the new advanced physics engine and the return of Coaster Cam. Management tools are deeper and more robust, allowing you to dig into the day-to-day operations like never before - from managing on-site medical facilities or booking live entertainment to organizing custodial services and hiring mechanics. The improved peep AI will even drop notes in the suggestion box for you. Disregard them at your own peril.
