As the cost of everything skyrockets, I'm relieved to see gaming monitors go dirt cheap this Prime Day

I won't bore you with another rant about the exorbitant cost of PC gaming in 2026. Buying RAM and storage is for the rich, browsing gaming laptops is wince-inducing, and don't get me started on pre-builds. I've been covering big sales events for PC Gamer for nearly a decade now and buying gear from any of these categories has never been more expensive. There's such a dearth of good deals, that these categories don't even exist on our Prime Day live blog.

Oops: that's a rant.

One thing this Prime Day has been good for is gaming monitors, especially if your budget is under AU$300, and especially if you're after a 1440p display.

The highlight is probably the Alienware AW2725DM 27-incher, at least in terms of the amount you're saving. The QHD display has a Fast IPS panel, a 180Hz refresh rate (more than adequate for mere mortals) and the usual adaptive sync compatibilities. It's usually AU$449.90, but Amazon is flogging it for AU$284.05. That's a good price for an Alienware display with these specs.

If you're after a sub-AU$300 gaming monitor without skimping (too much) on resolution and frame rate, this is definitely a tempting prospect. It's a 2560x1440 affair with a 180Hz refresh rate, an IPS display, VESA DisplayHDR 400 and 1ms response time.View Deal

If that's still a touch pricey, you can pay around AU$70 less for the KTC H27T22C-3, which has comparable specs. Again, it's QHD, but the refresh rate gets pushed upwards to 210Hz.

I know what you're thinking: KT-huh? They're a Chinese monitor company who you may not have heard of, but this particular model is something PC Gamer can vouch for: it wins best budget 1440p display in our list of the best gaming monitors. You can read more in our full review, but the short of it? "This isn't a perfect display, but it is pretty nice by any reasonable metric. And in the context of the price, it's pretty darn brilliant."

Anyway, the already budget AU$289.99 price has been cut to AU$216.50 for Amazon Prime Day.

Our favourite budget 1440p monitor gets a neat 25% carved off the RRP. This IPS display boasts a brisk 200Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, Freesync and G-sync compatible, and won't cost an arm and a leg.View Deal

If you have less than AU$200 to spare, amazingly, there's an option just for you. The Lenovo LOQ 27Q-10 is, as the name kinda implies, another 27-incher with a QHD resolution. Like the Alienware above it has a 180Hz refresh rate on a Fast IPS panel.

This screen, usually bearing an RRP of AU$299, is currently AU$170 for Amazon Prime Day.

If you want to spend no more than AU$200 on a gaming monitor, it's hard to imagine something trumping this deal. It's a 27 inch QHD affair with a 180Hz refresh rate, HDR10, and AMD FreeSync and VESA Adaptive Sync. View Deal

Steam is an elephant, and we are all trying to describe it blindfolded. To bring order to this economic chaos, I have curated a list of must-play games—indies, cult hits, no brainer classics, all ones I like personally—that are $5 or cheaper in the 2026 Summer Sale.

Five bucks is my threshold for "not a big deal," and unless the economy is even worse than I thought, it's likely yours too. If you got everything on this list together, it would be about $100 total, which is none too shabby for 31 games.

The start of modern Larian. I'm more bullish about its comedic tone and lighter story than a lot of other RPG fans, but no one can deny that it's still got genre-leading turn-based combat, even as the studio has only improved on its own work.

No, not Divinity: Original Sin 2. Despite some of the worst self-inflicted SEO out there, Divinity 2 is well-worth revisiting to this day. It's a relic of a different time, when Larian was following BioWare's lead rather than setting its own pace, resulting in something that visually calls to mind Dragon Age: Origins, but plays more like, I dunno, Jade Empire? That attempt at console-ization does make it a bit more approachable than Larian's other pre-Original Sin work these days.

Notable as perhaps the purest expression of Larian's vision for RPGs before the first Original Sin, Divine Divinity arrived at the tail end of the CRPG's late '90s golden age. Even at this early stage, you can still enjoy the studio's unique sensibility, and it's an important text for anyone with an interest in the history of RPGs.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker

A deranged, cruel, and irresistible RPG. Wrath of the Righteous and Rogue Trader are perhaps better introductions to Owlcat's work, but Kingmaker still got its hooks into me. I'm not a huge fan of this one's DLC, and honestly recommend skipping it unless you really gotta optimize your builds, so there's no sleight of hand to that $3.59 number.

One of my favorite games of the 2020s, a vexing RPG with one of the deepest class systems I've ever seen, as well as some truly aggravating encounters. Still somehow a gentler and easier to grasp entry point than Kingmaker, by my reckoning. Unlike Kingmaker, I highly recommend the DLCs, even if it brings us over $5. Please don't tell anyone.

Does anyone else remember the multiplayer for this game? Did I hallucinate that? It was actually pretty brilliant: Repeatable co-op wave survival stuff that felt a lot like Left 4 Dead. It was smothered in its crib by the most deranged monetization I have ever seen anywhere, ever. Paying for gear and classes in a full-price retail game, the hubris is staggering.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

A crusty game par excellence, a "realheads know" RPG that has never gotten the love it truly deserves. Turn off the part of your brain that makes it difficult to talk to strangers about politics and just enjoy yourself.

Looking back, this feels like a turning point, when Remedy started getting quirky. One can observe the aspirations of a surreal shared world that we're now seeing come to fruition with the Control-Alan Wake continuum. The level set in the abandoned theme park of a Twin Peaks/Twilight Zone pastiche is an all-timer, and feels like it rhymes with the killer amusement park level in Alan Wake 2.

A game doomed by circumstance: Virtually everything that made Invisible War feel inferior to Deus Ex was a result of console compromise design on behalf of the then-cutting edge Xbox. All the love to the Eidos Montreal games, but Deus Ex and Invisible War are simply smarter works of science fiction.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Still the best kick in gaming, an all-time piece of melee combat design at the heart of one of the most slapstick games ever made. Dark Messiah's booby trap and bottomless pit-laden arenas still make it one of the GOATs of physics as gameplay. Even Arkane itself has never managed to fully recapture this aspect of Dark Messiah in its excellent later work.

A snack of an FPS that still managed to steal my heart. It's the only boomer shooter David Szymanski has made since the much-beloved Dusk, and it has a similarly impish, pitch-black sense of humor. Chop Goblins' levels are few, but substantial, with tons of secrets and side paths. This is a great game to get with a friend too, thanks to its time trial-centric replayability and global leaderboard.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

One of the jankiest commercial products ever made with Valve's Source Engine, a game I and many others can't help but love despite its many, many flaws. The more horror and adventure-focused early areas alone are worth at least two bucks, before it all devolves into mediocre shooting.

Where it all began for Arkane. Arx Fatalis is a prickly, complicated game that rewards patience. The one of a kind atmosphere and attention to detail in its underground society make it an all-time videogame locale for me, with the trappings of "normal" medieval fantasy life desperately masking the harsh reality of an existence deep below the surface. This is all that remains of a world whose sun went dark just outside living memory.

Star Wars: Dark Forces 3 - Jedi Knight 2—Jedi Outcast

The fourth game in the Dark Forces series of FPSes and the second game in the Jedi Knight series of hybrid FPS/lightsaber combat games. Jedi Knight proved a strong foundation, but Raven produced a style of FPS-inflected lightsaber combat that's never been replicated, and only recently, arguably been matched by Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor.

Jedi Outcast's even better sequel. About the only thing that took a dip was the storytelling, and even then, Outcast was hardly Shakespeare. Otherwise? You get your lightsaber from the get-go, and while Outcast's levels could be hit-or miss visually and from a design perspective, every stage of Academy is a heater with some Star Wars juice. My favorites are probably the early train mission, Darth Vader's castle, and the late game Jedi tomb complex.

Even if you can afford to upgrade your PC gaming setup to sport the most powerful or latest hardware, that doesn't mean you should. That's because many components and peripherals are vastly overpriced in the current climate (looking at you, DRAM and SSDs), but there's one sector that's bucking that trend: OLED monitors.

And for $649 at Amazon, you can bag yourself a really epic and super-immersive ultrawide OLED display, safe in the knowledge that you're absolutely not paying over the odds.

The Asus ROG Strix XG34WCDG is essentially a lower-priced version of the ROG Switch PG34WCDM monitor we reviewed back in January 2024. It uses a different panel (Samsung QD-OLED vs LG WOLED) that isn't quite as highly specified, with the XG34WCDG sporting a maximum refresh rate of 175 Hz and a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits (240 Hz and 1,300 nits for the PG34).

The relatively high resolution of 3440 x 1440 is a boon for pixel density, but it will mean you'll need a beefy GPU for gaming at native settings, though with upscaling being as good as it is these days, you're not going to need anything too extreme.

What you lose in terms of outright performance, you gain significantly in bang-for-buck, as well as general comfort. The ROG Swift display has a very tight 800R curvature, whereas the ROG Strix is much easier to live with at 1800R (the bigger the number, the more gentle the curve).

Since it's a newer model, the XG34 also boasts Asus' OLED Care Pro tech, including a configurable proximity sensor which the monitor uses to determine if anyone is sitting in front of it. When there's nobody there, it switches everything to black to keep OLED burn-in at bay.

For truly immersive gaming, there's little that beats a hulking ultrawide, and while they're not necessarily perfect for general work scenarios, having all that real estate does make it easier to manage lots of Windows.

At $649, this Asus ROG Strix XG34WCDG is the cheapest it's ever been on Amazon and a full $350 under its launch MSRP. The RAMpocalypse might be doing its best to ruin the cost of upgrading your PC, but you can still treat yourself for less with this monitor.

These 'lovely earbuds for almost anything' are down to their lowest price ever on Amazon

These earbuds might not be ideal just for gaming, but for listening to music and more casual gaming they're great. They have a great sound profile, sit comfortably, and look pretty snazzy, too. The buds are available in black, yellow, and white, but white costs a little more.

We're always on the lookout for the best earbuds for gaming, and while the Nothing Ear (a) fell short of that title, our Jacob (different Jacob) came away impressed with other aspects of these buds from his time with them.

The Nothing Ear (a) are down to just $53 over at Amazon right now, from a price of $79. We actually reviewed them at $99, which means they're a lot cheaper than we judged them at back then.

Our Jacob Fox took a look at these earbuds in the summer of 2025, noting that the audio is very impressive for this price point ($99 at the time). He gave them a nod for their impressive soundstage:

"With the Bass Enhance setting enabled and set to level three (out of five) the bass is plenty punchy, and the audio in general feels more open than it does from some competitor earbuds such as the (admittedly cheaper) Air Pro 4," Jacob said.

Though we want to give you the full picture so you can choose your next earbuds with all the information. Jacob did have some complaints. Namely, the latency is too high for gaming over Bluetooth. The buds do feature a low-lag mode, though it's still noticeable laggy compared to others we've tested, like the EarFun Air Pro 4.

He also noted they fall out of his little ears more often than others, though he does note that he has especially little ears (he does, I've seen them). For sure, most user reviews are pretty positive about the fit.

Lastly, the mic isn't great. Though to put this to the test, Jacob (other Jacob) called me with them in just now and, yeah, they're not top-notch but they're not awful either. That maybe changes in a very busy place with more noise around but they're passable, in my opinion.

That seems like a laundry list of faults, but I asked Jacob whether he'd buy these buds at this new low price and he said, "for the price, I think I'd get them". The fact these are now going for cheaper than we've ever seen them on Amazon does a lot of good.

Similarly, Jacob still rounds off his review saying they are "fantastic earbuds", namely for their sound profile, cool style, excellent software, and good noise cancellation. Those things all matter a whole lot, and at just over $50, the faults are easier to look over for the right person.

While it's not perfect (I mean, the score isn't 100%, is it?), there isn't anything bad about this chair: It's simply a case of whether it suits your needs and preferences over the many other choices that are on the market at a similar price.

Due to my scrawny build, I've never really got on with mesh chairs, but this one has been super comfortable. That's mostly down to the funky back, which effectively moulds to your body, supporting you without using big dials and levers you have to twist about.

Future

Personally, I'd prefer the seat to have a bit more foam to it, and I'd also prefer the armrests to lock more firmly in place. They're easy to adjust for position and rotation, but a bit too easy for my taste.

What tips this deal, though, isn't just the quality of the chair, but the fact that you've got a reasonable saving with the $50 discount, along with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. Many chairs will only give you three years, so that's a clear win for Autonomous.

For just $40, this Glorious budget gaming headset deal is the best I can find on Amazon

With a solid build quality, good compatibility and sweet design, the Glorious GHS is a thoroughly middle-of-the-pack budget gaming headset, but is a bit of a steal with a third off.

There is an abundance of good gaming headsets at any one time, and that was our main critique of the Glorious GHS Eternal in our review earlier this year. It's a good headset, but not special, and that makes it hard to stand out. However, with a tidy discount, it does become a little special, and it's worth a serious look now.

Over at Amazon, you can pick one up for yourself for just $40, which is a $20 saving. The only downside is that the black model is the only one available in the sale. The white model still fetches $60, and both RGB models are $80.

This wired headset offers pretty broad compatibility, with it working on PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation. Naturally, that's via the 3.5 mm jack, but that's still a lot of platforms for not much money. It's also got some solid construction, being sturdy and with a decent bit of bend to it too.

On the visual front, it's fairly understated, with the most vibrant part of the whole package being the orange 3.5 mm jack. The microphone is also detachable, which means it could feasibly serve as an out-and-about headset, as well as one for your games.

Future

The 40 mm drivers are more or less just okay, providing solid but not standout sound. There's almost no sound isolation, though, so you could annoy your housemates if you like your games too loud.

As well as this, the microphone quality is mediocre. But alas, you need to make some compromises when you are buying a budget headset, and the Glorious makes them in decent spaces, especially when you consider that price. The Corsair HS55 is perhaps a better budget pick when both are full price, but it's currently $20 more, so my money would be going to Glorious instead.

Bigger SSDs last longer than smaller ones, hence why this particular model has a write endurance of 2,600 TBW. You'd have to completely fill the whole drive, every single day for nearly two years, to hit that limit, and even then, it will still carry on working after that.

So why is this drive so cheap compared to every other 4 TB SSD out there? There are two reasons: It's from Team Group, and it's not blisteringly fast, despite using a PCIe 4.0 interface.

In the case of the former, that company is one of the largest SSD makers around, so it has a reasonable supply of flash chips compared to others, hence why some models it makes are more affordable than the competition.

As for the speed, well, that's a non-issue, to be honest. You really won't notice those sequential read/write rates, either in gaming or just general use. It's only if you try to fling around enormous 4K videos that things will be a touch on the slow side. In every other scenario, this will be absolutely fine.

With Prime Day just around the corner, we have started to see some deals pop up, but I was surprised to see Logitech offering some of the steepest and most surprising discounts so far.

If you want a pretty, Genshin-themed gaming keybaord that's wireless and TKL, the Logitech G515 is down to just $70. That's a whopping 56% discount on its full price, and the lowest price I've ever seen this keyboard go for.

The main difference between the G515 and the G515 Rapid TKL that we reviewed late last year is that this one is missing rapid trigger switches. Instead, the keyb is fitted with brown tactile switches, but it's still got lovely RGB, a sweet white aesthetic, and Double-Shot PBT keycaps.

This one is Genshin Impact themed (or more specifically, it's styled after Kamisato Ayaka), but thankfully, it's not gauche at all. It has some lovely accents and the odd sprinkling of decals. Overall, it's quite subtle and pretty even to the eye of this casual Genshin player.

Being low profile and TKL, it's short and easy to pop on a desk. Its build quality is still strong, though, and it's not super light either. Wireless connectivity is perhaps less useful than in a mouse or headset, but it's still nice to have the option, and you're getting around 36 hours of charge out of it, too.

Thanks to its lightspeed connectivity mode and 1,000 Hz polling rate, it's a pretty fast set of keys too. You are missing some modern features like Rapid trigger and 8,000 Hz polling (who really needs that anyway?), but for its price, this is a killer deal. The Gamakay x NaughShark NS68 does offer both 8,000 Hz and rapid trigger for cheaper, but the Logitech still beats it on build quality and looks.

If you're in need of a sturdy low-profile gaming keyboard and want something to pair with your all-white rig, this Logitech keyboard surprised me with how good value it is right now, and I can't see it going lower this side of Black Friday.

At $200 on sale, this Acer ultrawide gaming monitor is the cheapest I'd actually recommend buying

Those who have ultrawide gaming monitors really stand by them, and it's easy to see why. You are getting more on-screen at any time, offering not only a tactical advantage in some games but also more immersive sights in others. And, they're only getting cheaper, too.

From the top, you are getting that ultrawide panel, and it comes in at 1440p with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 1 ms response time. The refresh rate is on the lower end of gaming monitors, but not awful at the same time.

As well as this, it's a VA panel, which means you aren't getting the vibrancy of IPS or the true blacks of OLED. But, at that price point, something has gotta give, and VA is not a bad compromise for an otherwise impressive monitor.

That 3440 x 1440 resolution screen, paired with its 1500R curve, should offer truly superb immersion. Thanks to the way it quite literally wraps around you, you'll find it easy to immerse yourself in Cyberpunk 2077's Night City. And in RTS games, you can cram more of the game into the screen than you would on a traditional monitor.

One downside of ultrawide monitors is that support isn't fully there for some games. Even the likes of Elden Ring lack official ultrawide support, shoving a pair of black bars on either side of the screen and displaying it in traditional 16:9. But programs like Flawless Widescreen have come a long way in implementing ultrawide support in games that don't have it natively.

Though you make compromises to get the format, ultrawide monitors do what they do well, and are well-liked for it. I keep track of the best cheap gaming monitor deals every week, and other choices regularly sit between $50 to $150 more than this one.

We gave this 1440p gaming monitor a 90% two months ago and it's already received a huge $120 price cut

This standard sized OLED is great for gaming, boasting a 0.03 ms pixel response and a 280 Hz refresh rate. It's unfortunately less great for lots of reading of on-screen text, as the use of RGWB subpixels leads to some font fuzz, but it's bright, punchy, and the sweet spot for a 1440p OLED monitor.

Gaming monitors are in such a good spot right now. Despite many other PC gaming components getting driven up in price by the memory crisis, we are steadily getting cheaper and cheaper monitors with richer, more detailed and punchier panels.

If you're in the market for an upgrade, we gave the Gigabyte M027Q28GR a 90% just a few months ago, and it's already down to $480 at Amazon. That's a discount of $120, and a mighty fine price for a mighty fine monitor.

To start from the top, this Gigabyte panel uses LG's upgraded WOLED technology, which means it's brighter and punchier than its predecessors, and it's hurtling fast at 280 Hz. That means it's perfect for gaming, and it even has a speedy 0.03 ms response time.

1440p is a good sweet spot for most rigs, looking nicer than 1080p but without needing a top-end rig for consistent 4K play. Our Jeremy said in his review, "Right out of the box it's immediately obvious that this new panel is an improvement on previous generations of LG OLED."

Unfortunately, despite being new, it does lack LG's RGB-stripe subpixel structure, which means it's still vulnerable to font fringing. Effectively, in a non-gaming application, you may notice edges on text. How much this will affect/distract you is naturally pretty personal, but for gaming, this shouldn't have an effect.

And, in gaming, it's a bit of a beast. It's super snappy and quick, with specs not far off being esports-ready, and the 27-inch screen looks great in action. You will get brighter panels, as this only offers a full brightness of 335 nits, but that's still an upgrade on some OLED panels, and noticeable in play.

Future

The look of the rest of the monitor is pretty neat, too. It's got a classy-looking chassis and pairs it with a metal base and stand. You're also getting HDMI, DisplayPort and USB Type-C connectivity, with a built-in USB Type-C interface offering 18 watts of power. That's not massive, but it should be enough to keep your phone or a light laptop topped up with battery.

At full price, this OLED monitor got a huge score from us, and the $120 discount is the best we've seen yet. We have seen it previously for about $20 more, but it seems unlikely it will come down by much more this side of Black Friday. It rounds this out with a three-year warranty, which is just the cherry on top.

For the first time in months, I've spotted an RTX 5070 Ti gaming PC for a genuinely reasonable price

This PC comes with a whole bunch of caveats, but none of those overrides the fact that you're getting a build with an RTX 5070 Ti inside for under $1,800. That's a price we've not seen such a PC at for a very long time. You will probably want to upgrade the CPU when you can, though, and you'll want a USB hub handy given the lack of I/O.

I've been checking all major retailers for gaming PC deals regularly for the past couple of years, and I'd honestly given up on the idea of seeing an RTX 5070 Ti gaming PC cheap enough to be worth the money—especially while RX 9070 XT gaming PCs seemed to be staying pretty cheap. But the tides have finally and surprisingly turned, thanks to this MSI Codex Z2 for $1,749 at Walmart.

Sub-$1,800 for an RTX 5070 Ti gaming PC is exactly what I'm looking for here, just the same as with RX 9070 XT builds, and I've not seen one anywhere near this cheap for months. I'd assumed maybe it was a stocking issue for those GPUs specifically. Whatever the case, we're back, baby.

Well, kind of. There are a couple of pretty big caveats to this build. But if you're looking to do some high-end gaming for as little money as possible, I still think this build will be worth it, regardless of its foibles.

That's because the RTX 5070 Ti offers some mean performance for this price point. It's my personal fave of this GPU generation, provided you can pick it up at a reasonable price. It isn't too far short of the RTX 5080 in performance, and it overclocks incredibly well. And compared to the RX 9070 XT, it's pretty on par, except you're also getting widespread support for the latest frame gen and upscaling tech.

In practice, all this makes for a GPU very capable of playing modern games on the highest settings at 1440p and even 4K in many cases.

We're talking a full gaming PC here, though, and moving beyond the GPU is where some of the caveats come into play. First, this build is a little light on RAM, and $1,750 is around the price point where you'd hope to start seeing 32 GB, even during a memory shortage. Nevertheless, if you keep background apps closed, this shouldn't bottleneck you for gaming too much at all. At least not on its own.

And therein lies the second caveat: You're getting what is essentially a repurposed mobile chip with the Ryzen 7 8700F. That means lower clocks and less L3 cache, which isn't great for gaming. CPU-intensive games will likely take a hit, as will gaming at lower resolutions. But for gaming at higher resolutions in GPU-limited scenarios, it won't be a massive deal.

Thankfully, it's socket AM5, meaning you should be able to upgrade to something like the stellar Ryzen 7 9800X3D down the line.

The final caveat is that this thing has a motherboard that's pretty light on I/O. So if you plan on having more than the usual couple of peripherals connected, you might want to get a USB hub hooked up to one of the two 5 Gbps ports, leaving the other free for external drive transfers. And even then, bear in mind that 5 Gbps means USB 3.2 Gen 1x1, which is far from the latest.

With all those caveats in mind, I have to return to the fact that in sheer gaming performance, you're getting a fantastic deal here thanks to that GPU. If you don't mind opting for AMD, an RX 9070 XT build like this one might give you a little more bang for your buck, but if you want the slightly better GPU and much better upscaling and frame gen support, this MSI rig is a great shout.

Let's imagine that you've been working hard at creating an all-white theme for your gaming den, and there's just one item left to tick off the list: a super-nice white keyboard. There are lots to choose from, but many of the really great keyboards sport excessively high price tags.

A great example of that is the Asus ROG Falchion Ace 75 HE, which normally costs $220. It's an excellent keyboard, but that's way too much money in comparison to the competition. Well, not any more, because you can bag one for $160 at Amazon right now.

When Reese checked out the black version of the Falchion Ace 75 HE, he came away very impressed by its super-fast switches, additional controls, and overall build quality. However, he wasn't quite so happy with the price tag, and that's understandable because the $150+ keyboard market is extremely competitive, with lots of brilliant options to choose from.

But with a 27% discount, the Falchion Ace 75 HE is far more appealing, and if you don't mind the fact that it's wired-only, you're getting a superb button-basher for the money. Asus' latest Hall effect ROG HFX V2 switches are ridiculously quick, thanks to their short travel, low actuation force, and highly adjustable actuation point.

Future

Along with an 8 kHz polling rate (somewhat pointless, but still kinda neat to have) and rapid trigger functionality, this keyboard is ideal for twitchy, competitive shooters and esports in general.

That said, it's great for any kind of gaming, as well as general use, thanks to the handy media wheel/roller and touch bar on the back, which you can configure for all kinds of roles. This is all done via Gear Link, a web-based app that's light-years ahead of Armoury Crate.

Yes, $160 is a lot of money to throw down for a keyboard, but at least you're not paying over the odds with this deal.

So, what's this mini-LED thing all about, then? Effectively, instead of hiding a couple of LED strips behind the screen to provide light, it packs thousands of individual light-emitting diodes in there, making it not only super bright but also immune to burn-in and other long-term monitor complaints.

Our Jeremy started his review of the monitor sceptically, self-admittedly, but it managed to win him over in testing. That's because you get absolutely sizzling HDR performance, thanks to its 1,000 nits brightness and 1,152 dimming zones.

Future

Whether you are gaming in a dark room or positioned near a window, this KTC panel can handle any lighting you want to throw at it. And good brightness isn't just strong for fighting the rays of the sun, it's also notable for game performance. If you want your screen to really pop, accurately displaying environments and capturing darkness, it's a strong choice.

It also has solid stats otherwise, like a 200 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time, and DisplayHDR 1000 support.

Although it's down to $300, that is arguably 4K pricing territory, with the dual-mode 4K/1080p MSI MAG 275UPD just $250 at the time of writing; even the 1440p OLED Acer Predator X27U Z1bmiiprx is only $80 more at $380. Still, all of these are very viable choices for different kinds of gaming setups.

Future

The OLED will offer superior vibrancy and true blacks, the 4K choice is capable of processing a higher resolution (should you have the hardware for it), and the mini-LED gives truly great HDR performance. The KTC is a little cheaper on KTC's own website, too, though Amazon's free shipping for Prime members and generous returns policy would make that my choice, personally.

Though the memory crisis is continuing to tear apart the pricing of many PC components, gaming monitors are only getting more reasonable, and this KTC pick is truly great value, even at full price.

Father's Day is on Sunday, June 21 this year, and if you're anything like me, you're already scrambling to think of something to buy. I've got good news for gaming dads, though—I've found 12 PC gaming gift ideas that would make any of them very, very happy indeed.

Amazon Prime Day gaming laptop deals under $1,000

This is one of the cheapest RTX 5050 gaming laptops we'd actually buy for a while. There are others, but you may well be looking at a 45 W TGP in those cases. For budget gaming laptops I would absolutely make sure to track down the wattage the GPU is specced to run at before making a purchase. The 75 W RTX 5050 isn't terrible, but it's not the highest you'll find—although it will be pretty capable with the 1080p screen attached to it.

This Lenovo LOQ machine is slightly above the magic $1,000 figure, but it does have a decent 100 W GPU, a speedy 1080p screen, and the now miserably familiar memory/storage combo of a 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. The memory side wouldn't be too bad if it wasn't for the fact it's single channel, but in our review that didn't actually harm gaming performance.

If you like your budget gaming laptops with big screens, this one's got a 17.3-inch 180 Hz IPS panel for reasonable cash. It's only a 1080p display, but that means the 85 W RTX 5060 on board shouldn't struggle too hard to push pixels. It's a shame about the 512 GB SSD, but unfortunately small storage drives are common at this price point.

It might be an 85 W RTX 5060 machine, but this Acer comes with a helluva bonus: 32 GB of RAM for a budget price tag. The 1200p, 180 Hz display is well-suited to its GPU, too—which makes this slimmer-than-average gaming laptop very tempting for the cash.

In these RAMpocalypse-infested times, you have to sacrifice something to get a good gaming laptop at an affordable price, and in this case, it's the GPU's power limit—just 85 W, which lowers the chip's full capabilities. At least everything else is nice for the money, and it's plenty skinny. It's a good deal even at full price, especially when most of the competition is ranging around the $1,500 mark.

This is a lot to pay for an RTX 5060 gaming laptop, but once you take into account the fact you're getting a 240 Hz OLED panel thrown into the bargain, this deal makes a lot more sense—although I have seen it for cheaper in recent months. Being a 1600p display, the 115 W RTX 5060 mobile here will need some DLSS and MFG help to make the most of it at native res, but this is still a slim and sleek machine with a very high desirability factor.

Yet another Acer machine beating many of the other offerings in terms of value, and this one in terms of scale, too. For not much more than the 16-inch machines above you're getting a 17-inch 1080p laptop and that extra screen size does show. Again, it's a conservative 95 W GPU, but the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen is solid, and so is the 32 GB DDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD combo.

You'll need some DLSS assistance to make the most of the refresh rate (particularly at 1600p), but this machine has a good chunk of premium hardware for more reasonable cash.

If you like your laptops with absolutely mahoosive screens, try this Asus on for size. It's got an 18-inch, 240 Hz 1600p display, which makes it much more of a desktop replacement than something you'd chuck in your bag. The 115 W RTX 5070 here will need some DLSS assistance to make the most of the refresh rate and resolution, but with an eight core, 16-thread AMD processor and 16 GB of DDR5, it's pretty well-specced overall. A 1 TB SSD is nice to see these days, too.

The G16 has been a firm favorite here at PC Gamer since Asus started wrapping them in milled aluminium chassis designs, and this one's got that super slim, super sleek feel. What you're getting here for the cash is a very portable form factor, a hyper-premium design, and a 240 Hz OLED. Some of the new models are a little noisy thanks to some saw-toothed fan profiles and hot-running Intel chips, as we found in our review of the RTX 5080 version, but this is still a gaming laptop I'd be happy to call my own.

This Legion lappy used to be cheaper, but as the memory crisis pushes gaming laptop pricing ever higher, it's jumped recently. Even at this price, though, it's a very well-equipped machine well worth considering, with an extremely powerful Intel chip at its heart, a beautiful OLED panel, and a 1 TB SSD. It's a shame about the 16 GB of RAM—but it's still plenty to get gaming with, and given the state of the memory market at the moment, it's about the best you can hope for at this sort of cash.

I'm a big fan of this mildly anachronistic gaming laptop. It's thick, can be loud, but it delivers on gaming performance and does so for an affordable price tag. The RTX 5070 Ti at its heart is a quality 12 GB mobile GPU, has a 140 W power limit, and if you run it on balanced mode you'll still get good gaming performance without the turbine whine of the fans. A great machine at a great price, with a speedy screen, too. I'd prefer more storage, but if it's gaming performance that's your priority, this will deliver.

First, you get that RTX 5070 mobile GPU, which is a very capable chip for a 1920 x 1200 resolution, especially with a 115 W TGP. And second, you get a 16-core, 32-thread AMD processor which is a mobile beast. Throw in 16 GB DDR5-5600 and a 1 TB SSD and you've got a lot of high-powered hardware with a decent saving.

This lappy has a honking, chonking, AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX CPU throbbing away in its RGB lit chassis. It's a 16-core 32-thread beastie from the previous generation, which, in combination with a 140 W RTX 5070 Ti mobile, should make for some serious gaming performance. The screen is a 165 Hz 1200p model, too, which the graphics chip should have no problem maxing out in most games.

This is a seriously beefy set of components. With a full-spec RTX 5070 Ti mobile handling the graphics duties, plus a 24-core Intel chip in the CPU spot, this gaming laptop has a serious amount of gaming and productivity firepower. I'd like to see some more RAM, but hey, at least it's a simple upgrade later on if you can afford the extra modules. Oh, and don't forget to check out the screen. 1600p 240 Hz, with this GPU? Yes please.

This 16-inch lappy is relatively slim and sleek, being one of Acer's S-line models, which is all the more surprising given the hardware nestled inside. It's got a 1600p 240 Hz OLED display, which is kept fed by a 24-core Intel chip and a 115 W RTX 5070 Ti. Those are some pretty mega components, and you even get 32 GB of DDR5 in the middle of the RAMpocalypse. It's a shame it isn't as cheap as it once was, but given the specs, it's still well worth considering.

This Vector is still one of the cheapest RTX 5080 gaming laptops you can find right now, but it has jumped in price recently. Our Dave reviewed the Vector 16 HX AI last year and likes the value proposition you get when you take into account that mega GPU, although it is a bit of a hairdryer on full whack. Still, stick it in Balanced mode and the noise is much more reasonable.

Our best high-performance gaming laptop pick features a monstrous collection of components. The RTX 5080 is a full-strength 175 W variant, the panel is a 240 Hz OLED stunner, the Intel CPU is mega, and as our Dave found in his review, the gaming performance is simply excellent. It's one of the fastest laptops we've tested to date, yet comes wrapped in a chassis you'd actually want to show off—although it must be said, it's a pretty sizeable machine to lug around. Okay, so this model doesn't have the properly punchy Z2 Extreme chip of the ROG Xbox Ally X below. As such, it's nowhere near as powerful, and more suited to indie games rather than the demanding stuff. That being said, handheld gaming PCs are rising to silly prices right now, and this one's still got a super-comfortable chassis, a good screen, and the Xbox FSE interface.

Okay, there are heaps of more powerful handhelds around, but the original version is still the archetype of what a mobile PC gaming device should be. We reviewed the Erazer Scout 15 with essentially this spec back in the before times, prior to the memory pricing apocalypse. Back then, for £900, it was too expensive for what it offered. Skip forward nine months and it's £100 cheaper and far more tempting. The Intel/Nvidia, CPU/GPU combo is solid, the TGP is a full 115 W, and you're getting a decent entry level laptop for the money. It will be loud, and don't expect any real gaming battery life, but it's a decent starter machine for the money and you are getting a 1 TB SSD at least.

This laptop is a bit of a chonk, but for this sort of cash it's well worth considering. Our James reviewed a version with a different CPU last year, and found it to deliver good 1080p performance from its RTX 5060 mobile GPU. It's got a slightly dull screen, and the chassis design won't set your heart aflame, but you'll struggle to get more gaming performance for the price.

This little Nitro might not have all the bells and whistles of fancier machines, but it's certainly got everything you need to get gaming. The RTX 5060 at its heart has a 75 W power limit, which is a little on the tight side, but paired with a 1080p screen should do just fine. The CPU is a neat and tidy little 10-core model (six Performance, eight Efficient) and it's got 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD, which are both good amounts.

RTX 5060 gaming laptops under £1,000 have become difficult to find, but this little Lenovo machine is still worth looking at for a fair chunk over. It's got a 115 W variant of the RTX 5060, which is a great match for its 1080p screen. Plus the CPU is decently beefy, and it's got a proper 1 TB SSD.

We reviewed the RTX 5060 version of this laptop late last year, and found it to be good—with one primary caveat. The 85 W RTX 5060 at its core isn't the fastest variant you'll find, and this RTX 5070 version has the same power limit. However, the A16 has an excellent chassis design, a decently fast screen, and a great smattering of budget components that still make it a desirable thing, and the RTX 5070 version will still be pretty quick.

This Lenovo Legion 5i doesn't have a massive discount, but it's still a very good deal. This model is still one of the cheaper RTX 5070 gaming laptops you'll find in the UK right now from a major manufacturer, and one that's worth some serious consideration. It's got a speedy Intel chip, a 115 W variant of Nvidia's mid-tier mobile GPU, and a proper 1 TB SSD, making it quite the catch. We love a Lenovo lappy, and this one makes a whole lot of sense.

We've been very impressed by the RTX 5080 version of this particular laptop for the value proposition it provides, and the RTX 5070 Ti variant is no slouch, either. While many RTX 50-series lappys are still priced into the stratosphere, this 16-inch machine is great value for the components you end up receiving. That's apart from the SSD, unfortunately, which is far too small.

Although the RTX 5070 Ti here has had its wings clipped slightly with a 115 W TGP, it should thrash any RTX 5070-equipped lappy in the gaming benchmarks with very little issue. Plus, it's been combined with an eight-core, 16-thread CPU with plenty of get up and go, a 180 Hz 1600p screen, and a proper 1 TB SSD. I'd like to see some more RAM, but it's darn expensive to buy on its own right now, so bear that in mind if you're thinking of an upgrade.

RTX 5080 machines are still eye-wateringly expensive for the most part, but we're big fans of this Vector lappy, especially because of the price. It might not have the prettiest chassis, but it's as fast as a very, very fast thing for a fair bit cheaper than most of the competition—with a speedy 240 Hz IPS panel thrown into the bargain, too. That makes it a genuine value proposition in a laptop market filled with extremely pricey equivalents. It's a smart buy, although I'd stick a touch more RAM in it—if you can find some for anything less than silly money.

If that's going to be all-day long, then look out for cushy features like memory foam earcups and plenty of headband padding. Lighter is better is often a good rule to follow when it comes to comfort, although it must be said that some of our favorite gaming headsets can be quite heavy.

That's the trade-off you sometimes need to make for good drivers, although that's not always the case. Speaking of which, larger drivers are often better at handling bass, but many headsets have some sort of software boost for those that like plenty of low-end thump, even if the drivers are on the smaller side. I wouldn't buy a 50 mm driver-toting headset over a 40 mm model simply because one number is bigger than the other, so make sure to pay attention to the recommendations and reviews to find out what the sound is really like.

A noise-cancelling mic is also a good idea for multiplayer gamers, so your teammates don't have to listen to your mechanical keyboard going click-clack. Noise cancelling is a good thing to consider for the cans themselves as well, particularly if you game in a shared space.

If you're going wireless, consider dropping RGB lighting down your priority list, as it'll sap battery life like nobody's business. Otherwise, if you're looking to stand out among streamers, an RGB headset will surely hypnotize those fans into subscribing.

Oh, and should you be concerned about wireless latency? Nope, not as long as you're buying something with a 2.4 GHz wireless connection. And it looks like retailers might have started the deal cogs churning especially early this year because two PCs I've found around the $1,500 mark have *sniffs* something of that special Prime Day air about them.

Admittedly, they're not quite as impressive as some of the deals on gaming PC we saw last year, but it's unfortunately difficult to expect anything quite so grand this year, given the global memory shortage and other supply issues. The AMD rig is technically more powerful and is only $50 more. But you're getting a much more well-rounded and well-utilized feature set with Nvidia, and a better CPU, so it's a tough call.

Gaming PC deals

It might have the 'just 16 GB of RAM' caveat that's now standard for mid-range rigs in 2026 given the RAMpocalypse, but we are talking an RTX 5070 rig for under $1,500. And that's with an X3D chip, too, which is still fantastic for gaming even if it is a previous-gen one.

There are two very reasonable, err, reasons for opting for this $1449 RTX 5070 prebuilt rather than the technically more powerful RX 9070 XT one below. First and foremost, you're getting much wider upscaling and frame gen support. FSR has technically—there's that word, again—kept up with DLSS in a lot of ways, but the latest iterations of the tech simply haven't been adopted in anywhere near as many games.

Secondly, this build has a better CPU. Yes, it's older, but if you look to the end of that SKU name you'll notice an 'X3D', which means this chip has 3D V-Cache. That means a bunch of cache, which games love to chew through. This will be doubly important if you're planning on playing CPU-intensive games, or just not playing very graphically intensive ones.

For the price, this is as high-end of a rig as I've seen in quite a while. Sure, it's a little bit of a glass cannon as it's only rocking 16 GB of RAM and a mid-range CPU, but that 9070 XT is definitely high-end, making this build great for gaming. You'll have to keep your library relatively light, and your background apps closed, but you'll then be able to churn through frames.

Compared to the previous RTX 5070 one, this build has the beefier GPU—by a not-insignificant margin in some games, according to our testing—and you're only paying $50 more for the privilege. If you're happy foregoing widespread multi frame gen support and don't play lots of CPU-intensive titles then I'd say it's a good shout.

It's also worth noting that it will make more sense to upgrade to a next-gen X3D chip from this CPU than from a 7800X3D, meaning there'll be a more reasonable CPU upgrade path here. AMD has recently confirmed the AM5 socket will be sticking around until 2029, too, so no worries on that front.

At just 36 g, the Corsair Sabre V2 Pro is our favourite lightweight gaming mouse, and it's now at its best price

There's a handful of reasons to go for Corsair's Sabre V2 Pro (sensors, polling, look, shape etc), but arguably its best is how it balances feel with weight. Despite being a miniscule 36 g, it's sturdy and great for competitive play. And a great deal with a $20 discount.

As competitive-level gaming mice get lighter and lighter, there's a worry that they'll get more costly and less sturdy as a result. Corsair's Sabre V2 Pro calms that worry by being both well-built and reasonably priced, even at MSRP.

But, you don't need to pay its MSRP to get what is, in our approximation, the best lightweight gaming mouse on the market. Right now, you can pay $80 at Amazon to get one for yourself. The only downside is that it's only the black model that gets the discount.

Our Jacob gave this little rodent 92% in his review last year, claiming it is "a mouse that can truly lay claim to the 'ultralight' title."

At a mere 36 grams, it's easy to see why. Despite that tiny size, it doesn't have chunks taken out of it, like some of its competitors, and doesn't feel cheap either. You also wouldn't purely buy it for the weight, as it's backed up with some killer specs.

The Marksman S optical sensor is fantastic, and it comes up to 33,000 DPI, a max acceleration of 50 G, max speed of 750 IPS and even up to 8,000 Hz polling. I probably wouldn't stick it any higher than 1,000 Hz in normal play (as it cuts the battery life down from 70 hours to a mere 16), but it's still a nice option to have should you be skilled enough to get the use out of it.

You are only getting one onboard profile, though, so on-the-fly customisation is a bit tough, and the UPE skates are a little worse than traditional PTFE. You are getting better durability in return, but it's still a tradeoff worth noting.

However, with those caveats out of the way, this truly is an excellent competitive mouse, and it was a genuine boon to Jacob in his FPS games.

Future

One thing the mouse is missing is any of the more flashy elements some gaming mice go for. You get no RGB here, and only a handful of buttons. To me, that's a neutral-to-positive choice for Corsair, but some do really like their mouse to shine at night.

Still, if you find most gaming mice are a little on the heavy side and want something snappy and light to help you hit headshots, the Sabre V2 Pro is an excellent lightweight wireless gaming mouse. At $20 off, we have seen it go this low before, but never any lower, so it's a great pick at its price point. And importantly, it's sturdy, looks nice, and performs excellently.

If you're looking to get a sensibly priced 1080p/1440p-level graphics card, there's only one clear choice right now: This GeForce RTX 5060 Ti for $380 at Amazon. It's also the same price at Newegg, Best Buy, and Walmart, so you should have no problems picking one up.

You can buy a Radeon RX 9060 XT 8 GB card for less, $360 at Amazon, and while AMD and Nvidia's models are almost perfectly matched in performance, the latter's DLSS 4.5 tips the scales in favor of the RTX 5060 Ti. Not necessarily because the upscaling and frame generation algorithms are better, but simply because more games support DLSS 4.5 than FSR 4.

When you're clearly getting so much more performance over an RTX 5060, spending $30 is a no-brainer, and I'd be happy to pay just ten bucks more over an RX 9060 XT to have access to the full DLSS suite. The RTX 5060 Ti overclocks quite nicely, too, so with a bit of time and tweaking, you'll be able to squeeze a bit more zap out of the card.

There's nothing you can do about the 8 GB VRAM limit, of course, and there are definitely cases where there is a noticeable gap, in terms of frame rates, between having eight and 16 gigs of video memory.

What that means is that over the years of using that card, there will be an increasing number of games getting released where you'll have to turn down the graphics settings more than you would if you had 16 GB of VRAM. There's no way to avoid this, other than to pay a small fortune for a graphics card that has more memory.

We live in some strange times when an 8 GB RTX 5060 Ti is the best graphics card worth buying right now, but that's the RAMpocalypse for you.

We here at PC Gamer have tested very, very many gaming monitors over the years, and yet the MSI MPG 321URX sits head and shoulders above every other one. It is our pick for the best gaming monitor, after all. A 240 Hz 4K OLED panel that looks excellent and plays incredibly well, it's well worth its pretty big asking fee.

It may be hard to believe, but the MSI MPG321URX at full price is cheaper than its direct competition, and despite that, it looks absolutely lovely. We reviewed it in May 2024, and yet no company has managed to dethrone it in our list, and that's because it truly offers an excellent experience for the price. 4K is a bit much for some graphics cards, but if you have the rig to run it, it's hard to go wrong with the 321URX.

Its QD-OLED is absolutely lush, as is the norm for QD-OLED panels. I've been saying this for practically a year now, but the upgrade from IPS to OLED is arguably one of the biggest I've ever made, when it comes to day-to-day gaming. They offer true blacks and vibrant colours, making games absolutely pop.

At 32 inches, it's decently sizable and comes with a killer 0.03 ms response time and 240 Hz refresh rate. That means it not only looks incredible but offers near competitive-level play, should you want it.

Future

As is common with OLED monitors, the 250 nits peak brightness is a bit on the low side, so it may struggle in front of a window. Still, outside of that application, you shouldn't have much of a problem with its brightness.

One thing we did notice here is that, like all OLEDs, HDR is a struggle. The DisplayHDR 400 mode works well for bright games with outdoor scenes, but the 1,000 nit mode works best in darker scenes with bright highlights. Unfortunately, being caught between two separate modes is a tad awkward, as you don't really want to swap between them as you play.

Generally, we'd advise the DisplayHDR 400 mode, but bright details can suffer from bloom and compression here, which removes some detail. Oh, and it's maybe worth noting that MSI's big OLED can use up to 270 W of power, so it can really heat up your gaming den.

Still, those are only slight quirks on an otherwise truly fantastic panel, and our favourite of the last few years. If you are in search of an OLED panel and can handle 4K gaming, it's not just a good choice, but the choice, in our book.

Whether you're adding an extra level of privacy or trying to get around streaming geo-blocks, whapping on a VPN is easy to do, so it can be worth it even if you're not looking to use it while gaming. Just install it and have it auto-launch and connect at login. Then, if you want to have your games run on your default connection, you can have them run through a split tunnel—in Surfshark, this is the 'Bypasser' setting.

As you can see from the above benchmarks, there's really little in it between a native connection and a VPN connection, whether that's for gaming or downloading. Surfshark has a pretty decent pool of servers to choose from, too, and is a big enough company (it's owned by NordVPN) that support should be good, too.

While you're not getting a straight cut on its usual $1.99 post-cut price, this particular deal is nice because, if you think about it in a roundabout way, you're getting a few months for free. As long as you were already going to buy something off Amazon, that is.

Let's get the obvious things out of the way first. To start with, this isn't the cheapest RTX 5080 gaming laptop you can buy—at $2,399 on Newegg, this MSI Vector undercuts it by quite a bit—and secondly, you're only getting 1 TB of storage, which is pretty miserly for such a high-end rig. But truth be told, that's pretty much it for the downsides; everything else about this Lenovo Legion 7i is superb, and for the $2,600 Best Buy is asking, it's well worth considering.

The star of the whole show has to be the display panel. It's big and beautiful to behold: 16 inches of OLED lusciousness, with a 16:10 aspect ratio, 1600p resolution, and a 240 Hz peak refresh rate. Such a lovely screen really needs a great graphics chip to get the best from it, and that's precisely what you're getting here.

Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU is roughly equivalent to an RTX 5070 Ti desktop graphics card, and given that it's brilliant at 1440p and 4K gaming, you'll have no concerns over gaming performance with this laptop. The MSI Vector might seem to have the edge over the Lenovo in terms of raw frame rate, but the Legion is far more consistent, especially when it comes to minimum performance.

That's helped greatly by the fact that there's 32 GB of dual-channel DDR5-6400 and the processor is an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, a full-fat Arrow Lake chip with eight P-cores, 16 E-cores, and a peak boost clock of 5.4 GHz.

Naturally, being such a powerful laptop with a huge OLED screen, it doesn't have the best of battery lifespans—it barely cracks 70 minutes in the PCMark gaming test—and it's not something that you can easily slip into a backpack and carry around with you. Oh, and it's an absolute magnet for fingerprints, though that just gives you the perfect excuse to endlessly clean it and make oochy-coochy noises at your beloved new purchase.

As for the disappointing amount of storage, the good news there is that the Lenovo Legion 7i Pro has a spare M.2 slot inside, so funds permitting, it's very easy to throw another 1 or 2 TB NVMe drive in there, purely to house games.

If you're going to spend a whole heap of cash on a new RTX 5080 gaming laptop, you can do far worse than this one. In fact, it's actually very hard to beat the Lenovo. Certainly on price, but in every other area that matters, the Legion 7i Pro is absolutely top-notch.

There was once a time when Microsoft's Xbox Controller was at the top of the pile, thanks to its great feel and sturdy weight. Since testing out the offerings of GameSir, 8BitDo, and EasySMX, I can say that time is no longer.

Technically, that's not cheaper than the Xbox controller, because Microsoft's gamepad is also on sale, but when you factor in the optional wireless adapter you need to actually play the Xbox controller wirelessly on PC, you're paying significantly more for the Xbox pad, and getting an inferior pick.

Let's start with the obvious. The D10's TMR sticks and Hall effect triggers not only make it snappier than the Xbox pad, but also mean it's less likely to break down in 12 months. If you're sick of stick drift, EasySMX has you covered.

Future

The polling rate of 1,000 Hz is also eight times greater than the measly 125 Hz in the Xbox controller, which means it sends responses to your PC eight times more frequently. Though it's very much debatable how much value you get out of anything greater than 1,000 Hz, it has become the sweet spot for battery efficiency/speed.

I really like the D10's dock, too. Like the controller, it's covered in RGB, and the dock comes with a small USB port to slot in the 2.4 GHz receiver. This means it can both charge your controller when you're done gaming for the night and connect it to your PC, from a single cable. It's neat and tidy.

Thanks in part to the chunky build and asymmetrical sticks, it's actually quite a similar controller to the Xbox controller. Its weight is comfortable, and it fits smoothly in my palms.

Future

If you want to spend even less and don't particularly care about RGB or TMR sticks, the EasySMX D05 is also on sale—$10 cheaper than the D10— and is also well worth considering.

I've been testing this controller out for a few months now, and I'm a big fan. The only real caveats I have to bring to the table are that I think its triggers and D-pads are merely okay, and this is an area where Microsoft take a win. As well as this, the GameSir G7 Pro is a better controller for pure feel, though it is around $30 more expensive than the EasySMX D10.

Still, after getting my hands on tons of controllers over the last few years, I can say the D10 offers excellent value, and I'd be picking it over the Xbox controller pretty much any day of the week, and that's only partly because the charging stand means I'll never let the battery go dry.

Due to what folks that aren't me may deem a cruel twist of fate, I've ended up with a blooming lovely OLED gaming monitor in my home office. While it's vibrant and illuminates the darkest crevices of my gamer den, it is kind of overkill for all the hours I've been pouring into Titanium Court. For most of what I play, a 1440p gaming monitor would more than suit.

As a lover of smaller games less obsessed with showing you every pore of a character's face, I know I'm not alone on that front. So, I've found deals on two 1440p gaming monitors very much alike in dignity.

For those with particularly good memories, you'll note that it's now a few bucks more affordable than the last time we cast the deal spotlight on it a few months back. The ASRock Phantom also has AMD FreeSync and offers a refresh rate of 180 Hz. That's definitely not nothing at this price point. However, for all you esports fiends on a budget, I do have one more deal to draw your attention to.

Besides just a bump up over 1080p, you're also getting a refresh of up to 240 Hz (I say 'up to' because that's only via the Display Port). That's a very high figure for the price.

On all the product images of the Acer Nitro XV272U, a legally distinct kaiju graces its IPS panel—that feels fitting because there's about to be a rumble in the budget jungle. For just fifty bucks more than the ASRock Phantom, the also 27-inch Acer Nitro offers a refresh rate of up to 240 Hz. That's definitely appealing for only $180 from Amazon.

I say 'up to' because that high refresh rate is only available via the Display Port—if you're connecting via the HDMI port, you'll be stuck with a 144 Hz refresh rate. At this price point, there's bound to be some compromise, but it may be worth it if you really want that 0.5 Ms response time.

Otherwise, there's really not much difference between the two monitors. Both are 1440p, both are 27-inch IPS panels, and both even enjoy AMD FreeSync for those with a team red rig. But 50 bucks is 50 bucks, and that refresh rate might just make all the difference for you. Not me though—last night, I literally spent two hours putting away virtual books in Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library, and I have very few regrets.

Yes, that's a fierce amount of money, but believe it or not, that's actually the cheapest RTX 5080 prebuild I've seen for quite a while. How has this been made possible? In two specific areas: the central processor and the amount of storage it has.

The good news is that while the CPU isn't a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the best gaming chip around, what you are getting is the best mid-range processor at the moment: the iGPU-less version of Intel's brilliant Core Ultra 5 250K Plus. That makes this desktop PC a near-perfect all-rounder. You've got the might of a GeForce RTX 5080 for gaming and productivity, the punch of the 250KF Plus for all tasks, plus 32 GB of fast DDR5 to avoid memory worries.

The only thing that's genuinely disappointing here is the fact that you just get 1 TB of NVMe storage. In a $2,300 system. Yeah, the RAMpocalypse really does suck. Anyway, it's not clear what the exact make and model of motherboard is inside this system, but I'd be extremely surprised if it didn't have at least one more M.2 slot to throw in another SSD, when funds permit such an upgrade.

Now, if you do want this gaming PC with the same GPU, but a bigger SSD and a 9800X3D processor, then you're in luck, because Andromedia Insights has such a configuration for $2,800 at Newegg.

Is it worth $500 more than the one I've found? For some PC gamers, sure, but I'd prefer to keep the money and just enjoy this very neat-looking 250KF+5080 combo.
