ROG at PAX East 2019: booth tour with ROG Greg!

In the last recap, we introduced Addison Queen, the elite ambassador helming the ROG booth. In today’s episode, we follow Greg Checchi as he tours us through the roster of ROG hardware on display at its PAX East booth.

ROG has always had a deep relationship with system manufacturers. This year, it has dedicated a special section to show off the superb custom PCs using powerful ROG hardware. During the tour, Greg noted the Outer Worlds system by AVADirect. Inspired by the upcoming adventure game, AVADirect’s Outer World system features a custom water cooling solution with an exposed fluid pump and yellow interior lighting. The second system by Xidax features a blue lighting theme accented by the liquid cooling system that is cooling the Intel Core i9-9900K CPU. The third system by Digital Storm features a red and black color scheme that matches well with ROG and uses a liquid CPU cooling loop with hardline tubing. Lastly, all these systems pack an Nvidia RTX graphics card to ensure games can be enjoyed at its maximum detail.

ROG also showed off the entry level ROG Strix GL10 gaming desktop. As a budget-friendly, off-the-shelf gaming PC, the Strix GL10 is an excellent option for gamers who want to pick up a solid package and start gaming. It features up to an Intel Core i7-8700 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, and 8GB of RAM. The chassis’ front panel is adorned with an LED light strip to brighten its visual appeal.

Gaming on the go is more popular than ever thanks to the explosion of compact gaming laptops. The ROG Mothership, however, takes portable performance to a whole new level. First unveiled in January, the 17” ROG Mothership has a detachable keyboard that folds like a tablet PC. Behind its 144Hz display is a six-core Intel Core i9-8950HK processor complemented with an Nvidia RTX 2080 graphics card  - a perfect combination to tackle the latest games at the highest settings. Because of its unique engineering, the ROG Mothership quickly became a fan-favorite at PAX and garnered tons of attention from hardware enthusiasts and media alike.

Mobile gaming is also serious business. At its ROG Phone demo station, Greg highlighted the Gamevice and the docking station. The Gamevice controller adds tactile joystick, triggers, and physical buttons for gamers who need to stay competitive 24/7. The Docking station, on the other hand, transforms the ROG Phone into a high-fidelity desktop experience complete with mouse and keyboard input. They all sound a little unfair, but that’s just the perk of cutting edge technology.
