Without naming names, I feel like we all have a pretty good idea which games, or game series, produce a ton of DLC. You can probably think of a dozen or so off the top of your head that have a strong reputation for regularly releasing paid add-ons, right? But how deep does your knowledge of DLC really go?

Let's find out with a quick game of Hi-Lo, or maybe you call it Higher or Lower. In the quiz below I'll show you how many pieces of DLC a particular game has, and then I'll give you the name of another game. All you have to do is guess if the second game has more or less DLC than the first. More or Less! That's a great name for a game.

When it comes to finishing games in a timely manner, I've got two major weaknesses guaranteed to tack on dozens of unnecessary hours to my total playtime: snappy, satisfying card games, and fishing minigames of literally any caliber.

I'm serious—I love fishing in most videogames. It can be the most notoriously finicky games, like the hellish fishing controls of Okami, or the more thoughtful and serene ones, like Cast 'n' Chill. I just want to sit somewhere on a dock or a boat and listen to the waves gently roll around me, only to be interrupted by the sounds of me furiously mashing whatever button reels in a bite.

Some of you are nodding along in agreement, because you're wise with good taste (and poor time management skills). As for the rest of you, I'm assuming you agree with my colleague Lauren's take on how fishing minigames are the worst. I'll have to sit you down for a stern talking-to later, but for now, I have a new quiz to deliver.

Sul sul! If you've ever spent extended time with The Sims, don't pretend like you don't know what I'm saying—we've all been there. It's never enough to open a game in the series for a quick session. You've got to spend hours micromanaging households, building new homes, and coordinating fancy 'fits.

But I get it, no judgement here. The Sims 4 is easy for me to pick up, but impossible to put down. And because of that, I may know a word or two of their bizarre, in-game language.

It's called simlish, and just like Klingon from Star Trek or Final Fantasy 10's Al Bhed, it's your sims' very own in-universe language. The Sims Studios has explained its linguistic process multiple times over the years, but in case you were wondering: no, it's not just you. Your sims really do have specific words and phrases to describe the same concepts. When you've played a ton of The Sims series, it's hard not to pick up and repeat a few of them.

In honor of the series' impressive linguistic feat, I've teamed up with PC Gamer's very own Sims series scholar, Lauren Morton, for a quick quiz on simlish. You've got a little over eight minutes to interpret these 10 sim phrases. Good luck, and let us know how you scored in the comments below.

Look, I'm not saying I'm not amazed that games have reached this era of visual hyperrealism where I can count the individual hairs in your character's nose. It's an impressive feat, no doubt. But I'm still one of those people firmly in the camp of stylized and exaggerated over indistinguishably lifelike and authentic.

I'm far more interested in a game's art direction—think the elegant brushstrokes of Okami, the striking impressionism of Disco Elysium, or almost any RPG from gaming's 16-bit era. That last one is my real weakness, though. Secret of Mana rewired my brain.

And like so many of you, an adoration for the pixely visuals of 8-bit, 16-bit, and even 32-bit games has followed me into adulthood. Modern releases channeling those aesthetics may no longer be limited by the machines they're running on, but I'm still floored by the detailed pixel-work in games like Hyper Light Drifter or Replaced.

That's why I've dedicated today's quiz to games with striking pixel art styles. Some of them are far more traditional than others, staying true to their 8- or 16-bit aesthetics, while others are more inspired by the era. You've got 10 minutes to name all 15 games based on a single, cropped screenshot.

My final words of advice? If you're struggling, try picking up your controller and entering the code into your D-Pad—you might be surprised what your muscle memory surfaces. Rockstar Games finally dropped the other shoe, making it official that GTA 6 will cost a whopping $80, plus an extra $20 for the Ultimate Edition if you want to enjoy, y'know, a whole bunch of clothing and hairstyles and automobiles.

Yep, entire in-game stores will be closed off unless you pony up a cool hundred bills for GTA 6, making one heck of a pricey game that we'll all probably wind up buying because—what else are we gonna do? Not play GTA 6?

With that in mind, I thought I'd test your memory on the launch prices of some other games. Can you remember what Valve's Orange Box cost when it first appeared? If you ask me to name what genre of games I tend to gravitate towards the most, I'll tell you it's a good ol' fashioned, narrative-driven RPG. But if you were to look at my Steam history, I can see how you would assume it's anything and everything under the survival crafting tag.

Still, I maintain that I value story above all else; I just can't resist a good crafting loop and endless base building. There aren't many survival crafting games out there that satisfy with a good plot hook, but they're great little adventures when you've got a friend or two to tag along. I love setting up a server, clearing my weekend schedule, and using survival games as a sort of social campfire for the Discord gang to huddle around—even if I spend most of that time organizing chests.

That ritual is how I've wound up with hundreds of hours across several of the genre's staples. So, as a tribute to all of my time spent in the (often literal) mines, I've thrown together a survival crafting quiz for all of you sandbox sickos. Skyrim is one of the most modded games of all time, and the r/skyrimmods subreddit is one of the best follows on the internet. Sure, most of the forum posts are people discussing various Skyrim mods, requesting a mod they'd like to see made, or troubleshooting mods they're having problems with.

But every so often there's a post that says something like "Boobs on everything mod?" in which someone requests "a mod that would put titties on everything," or "Massive schlong problem in Skyrim" where a player reports that some modded characters have huge penises and others have "the tiniest weiners I have ever seen."

The struggle isn't nearly what it used to be, but there was a time when most of us assumed big new console game announcements did not include plans for a PC release—or even if we did get one, it wasn't launching in a timely manner.

Sometimes it's still a nasty wait, but I've come to expect most games I'm interested in will launch for PC either on the same day or at least within the year. I reckon that's changing for Sony's first-party singleplayer games, and then there's the other outlier in Rockstar. PC probably won't see Grand Theft Auto 6 until November 2027. Hell, it may be 2028.

But no more dooming about what hasn't happened yet, let's celebrate the games that did make the jump from console to PC. This week's quiz is all about PC ports. I'm counting remasters, HD collections, etc. Just no full-blown remakes. I'll show you a cropped screenshot from the game, and you tell me its name.

Do you remember that moment in Baldur's Gate 3 when you thought you were approaching the end, but then you arrived in Act 3's big city and realized you weren't even close? Because I sure do. I remember proudly announcing I was about to finish the RPG, only to spend another 100 hours methodically combing the city and kissing Karlach. Egg on my face.

The first and second chapters of BG3 felt big enough to be their own game, so I wasn't expecting Larian's final chapter to be the behemoth it was. I could've been normal about it, sure, but I somehow arrived in Act 3 ready to dig through more rotten baskets than ever before and talk to the whole damn city multiple times. By the time I had finally saved Baldur's Gate, I think I doubled my playtime from the first two acts.

That's an extreme case (probably inflated by the Magic Mirror, too), and today's quiz doesn't assume you're that miserable over being thorough. It does, however, pose a challenge for those of you who just beelined it to the end.

PC Gamer has been around for a long time now, and boy do we have the magazine archive to show for it. When you start sifting through the pile, some years stand out for their historical leaps in technology or gauntlet of big releases—looking at you, Baldur's Gate 3 summer—and then there's 2011. A lot happened in 2011.

When it comes to new game releases, 2011 was a year for the books. I'm not going to start naming every new game that launched back then, lest I give away too many hints about the trial ahead, but I will say I still have a few 2011 games in my backlog. It's been 15 years, so it's probably time I admit I'm not going to play them, but I'm stubborn and still a constant victim of impulse Steam sale purchases.

My bad financial decisions aside, to celebrate a year of bangers (and some tragic misfires), I've gone through the PC Gamer magazine archives and selected 17 reviews to quiz you on. You've got 20 minutes to guess them all based on a single line of text and the score from our review.

The visual language of games is a fascinating thing. Graphics may have become more and more detailed and elaborate, but often the things that make a game most recognisable are the simplest elements, like the colour palette and the shape of the UI.

All of which is to say, you can actually mess up a screenshot a lot before it becomes genuinely unrecognisable. Even if we take away loads of the important details, your brain can still clock what it's looking at. And that's exactly what today's quiz is all about.

I've taken 10 screenshots of popular videogames and pixelated them to Hell and back (using the excellent free tool Pixel Art Village), and your job is to see if you can still identify them. It's not easy, but it's a lot more possible than it seems at first glance—we even had a few 10/10 scores when I tested it on the team.

Every so often, I am hit with the intense urge to bulldoze everything in my Sims 4 neighborhood and start over from scratch. I don't know why I do it, but I love wasting at least one week of my annual vacation razing the earth like some sort of unappeasable Sims 4 deity and rebuilding neighborhoods from the ground up, only to do it all over again the next year.

It's a habit I've had since my earliest days with the series. Those days when I was hardly big enough to sit in front of the family computer, and had to quietly hush my sims for smoochin' too loud. I've been playing The Sims for a long time.

I'm under the impression this isn't a unique experience. I love listening to other simmers endlessly complain about the chore of starting fresh in The Sims, only to spend hundreds of hours meticulously crafting every home, business, and person, before they tear it all down and start again. But that's the beauty of the process, isn't it? How else would you have become the Simly scholar you are today?

I don't envy the people who have to come up with MMO expansion names—firstly, you need to make sure its acronym isn't some kind of rude word (shoutout to FF14's Endwalker making me call my favourite MMO "ew" for two years). But you also need to encapsulate that expansion's shtick.

They've gotta be snappy, foreboding—something that looks good on a box. In the process of putting together this quiz, I've actually been decently impressed by the spread of techniques on offer. They all share a lot in common, though: They're always very grandiose, which makes them very easy to parody.

Indie survival game Windrose is one of the biggest hits of 2026. Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is getting a full-on remake. A sweet-looking pirate-themed city builder has just been announced. Are we sailing into a golden age of pirate games?

If so, it feels like the perfect time for a PC gaming pirate quiz, me matey! How much do you know about the pirate games that have sailed the PC seas? Have you done some swashbuckling in Sid Meier's Pirates, dug up buried treasure in Sea of Thieves, or slung insults at your enemies in a Monkey Island game?

Crimson Desert is a ridiculous game with a ridiculous number of ridiculous things you can do. So much so that it's hard to believe some of those things are actually real. Like what, I hear you ask? Without fail, any time I see a horse in a game I immediately stop, cheerfully yell, "horse!" and rush the majestic beast with no sense of danger. That's not how I was raised to approach wild animals, but unless it's an enemy steed, can you really blame me?

I reckon most people have the same can-I-ride-that-horse reaction when finding a stallion out in the wild. It's second only to 'Can I pet that dog?', but easily more rewarding if you can bring the horse along for utility and pet it. And since we already have a quiz on videogame dogs, I've decided it's time to honor the faithful steeds of PC gaming with their own trivia quiz.

While drafting this, I also realized two very important things. First being that most of these horses don't have canonical names, and second, Sony's PC porting spree should've included Shadow of the Colossus. I'm not counting emulation, so no, you won't see Agro or Epona here. Please don't come for me.

Anyway, it's time to put your inner horse girl to the test. Can you identify what videogame these horses are from? Or even better, tell us the name of the horse if they have one.

I don't know what compels me to keep forcing you all to confront the ugly history of videogame movies in quiz form. All I can say is, I've done it again, and I'm afraid you have to live with it.

This time it's a straightforward test—though not an easy one. You simply have to name every videogame movie adaptation that has ever had an English-speaking theatrical release. Yes, unfortunately that does mean remembering the names of all the Resident Evil sequels.

Now, let's go over some of the qualifiers here, because a few examples you may be thinking of are not included because of them. First off, these are all actual adaptations—we're not including any movie about a videogame. So for example The Wizard and Gran Turismo are excluded, as are documentaries like King of Kong or Indie Game: The Movie, because they're about people playing games but not adaptations of the games themselves.

All of these movies have also received a commercial theatrical release of multiple screenings in an English-speaking country—so that excludes ones that only came out on DVD or streaming (such as Alone in the Dark II) or that were only released theatrically in Japan (such as Yakuza: Like a Dragon), or that only had one screening as a one-off event (like Advent Children).

I've included a few clues to help you along: you can see the year the movie was released in cinemas, its approximate budget and box office takings, and most depressingly of all its current Rotten Tomatoes score. In a few cases at least that should help—you can probably remember which 2023 videogame movie made a billion dollars, for example.

Of course whenever I giveth, I also taketh away, and in this case I have made the cruel choice to only give you eight minutes to name as many as you can. That's pretty tight, so just go for as high a score as you can manage rather than trying to hit every single answer—and be thankful that it means less time thinking about how long it took before one of these movies earned more than a 50% critics score.

Is there anything more iconic to a fantasy RPG than spellslinging mages? That often squishy ally in the back who may not be able to tank angry enemy hordes for long, but if you bide them enough time, they'll flatten the battleground with a meteoric fireball or an army of undead.

Well, at least that's a more traditional example of magical allies or villains. A mage doesn't always look the same between games, and what makes someone the in-universe equivalent of an enchanted atomic bomb has been canonized a thousand different ways by now. Sometimes the word 'mage' never even comes up, but you get my point, they're the folks using magic.

I'm talking wizards, witches, sorcerers—whatever. Some games draw distinct lines between their magic practitioners, while others lump them all together under a fancy new name, but I know one when I see one. And more importantly, do you?

To test your knowledge of the ethereal and otherworldly, I've conjured up a list of 17 spellcasting allies and enemies. You've got 10 minutes to see how many mages you can name, and yes, first name only is fine. I'm not asking for their ID.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but I'm gonna be real with you for a moment and admit I have absolutely zero sense of direction (both in games and in real life). Stress on the zero, because if you ask me whether to take a left or a right at the stop sign, I'm going to let you down.

So perhaps it's no surprise to learn I'm always looking at the world maps when playing videogames, though at least those are fun to use. It helps that using one for the first time always feels a bit magical, too. There's just nothing quite like deciphering fantasy town names or mysterious landmarks—it's the opposite feeling I get from Siri's robotic shouting to announce I've missed the turn again.

That's why I've settled on making this week's challenge a tribute to the fictional GPS of videogame world maps, and seeing just how many games you recognize by a lay-of-the-land screenshot. You won't have to know your left from your right, but you will have to know Midgard from Ishgard.

You've got 15 minutes to identify 20 videogames based on a screenshot of their world map. Some images give away more than others, and you won't always see worlds in their entirety, but gaming cartographers should have it in the bag, easy.

Of all the digital wonders in gaming, I think it's still hard to beat an open world. Sure, pitches like "You see that mountain? You can go there!" have become cliché over the years, but there's still nothing quite as breathtaking as a beautiful landscape stretching out to the horizon that's just waiting for you to explore it.

And when one really captures your imagination, you can end up spending tens or even hundreds of hours travelling its roads and digging around in its every corner. A great open world draws you in and doesn't let you go until you've seen everything there is to see.

So I think it's only fair that we give these virtual realms their due—and this week, our quiz does exactly that. The challenge is simple: I've got 15 screenshots of videogame open worlds to show you, and you just need to identify which game these vistas come from.

It's not as easy as you might think. Without the main character swaggering about in the middle of the screenshot, some of these worlds can be tricky to identify. And there's a time limit, of course—you've only got four minutes to get all 15.

There's something magical about videogame concept art, isn't there?

Somehow it always looks better than the final product—more atmospheric, more expressive, more creative. I guess it's just the allure of all that potential, before it has to be refined down into something more concrete so people can actually play it.

This week I've made you a quiz that, to be frank, is just an excuse to look at a bunch of great concept art. I've lined up 20 pieces for you, and for each one you need to type in the name of the game it was so beautifully created for.

There's more to it than just looking at pretty pictures, though—you'll be surprised how challenging it can be to match art to game. If you want my advice, make sure to study each image carefully. Sometimes there are significant clues in there that aren't so obvious at first glance…

Judging by the people I've tested it on so far, if you get more than 5/20, you're doing pretty well… and if you get 20/20, you might just be the new PC Gamer quiz world champion. But even if you do badly, you'll still walk away enriched—art appreciation is its own reward.

Last year, we issued a challenge to Baldur's Gate 3 fans with a quiz on its massive first act, and many of you passed with flying colors. I briefly entertained the idea that we made it too easy, but after some reflection, I don't think that's the case. Y'all are simply tadpole-brained like it's 2023 and fresh on your mind, and you know what? That's fine. I'm right there with you.

Much like our US Editor-in-Chief, Tyler Wilde, I've got a bad habit of making new BG3 characters and abandoning them before the journey really gets going. I've already beaten the game once, so it's not my biggest crime, but I really want to see a Dark Urge run to completion, and I've yet to make it happen. Every Durge I make winds up lost somewhere between breaking Halsin out of Goblin Camp jail and picking on True Soul Nere.

But I think this latest attempt could be it. It could really be the one, as I've finally crawled my way out of the Underdark and into the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Making it across the first act finish line was key for me, because now I'm in love with the RPG again like it's my first time in Act 2. Making it here reminds me why Act 2 is my favorite of the three—it's the ambience, the dread, the creepy crawly darkness that bites and hisses if I linger long. That's my jam.

My Durge seems well on his way to having a public crashout in Ketheric's backyard, but I'm still having a great time watching it all happen and ready to use this as an excuse to talk more BG3 with a new quiz on Act 2. Resident Evil Requiem is here, and it's proving to be an enormous smash hit for the venerable horror series. Deservedly so, too—our own reviewer Elie gave it a 92%, calling it "a game that is built on the backs of everything that's come before it".

Is that so? Well, in that case, what better time to look back on everything that's come before it, right?

Today's quiz does exactly that. The challenge is to name all 30 Resident Evil games, from 1996 to now, in just three minutes.

You might think that's easy, as you type in all the numbered mainline sequels and their remakes. But you'll soon find that there are deeper horrors waiting for you, in the form of bizarrely named spin-offs, dead co-op games, light gun shooters, and more…

To the dismay of everyone around me, I've been a sucker for MMORPGs since I was a little thing. In 2002, I cut my teeth on an old Korean MMO called Priston Tale that, now I think about it, was just a more whimsical Diablo. When the game eventually went subscription-only, I cried for ages and begged my mom to let me pay with a money order. Alas, I was too young for a debit card.

Weird times, but I've done some growing. Sort of. Like a proper adult, I've had my own debit card for years now—you can clap—and can even drive myself to go buy a money order, though I don't know what I'd do with it. Anyway, being trusted to manage my own finances means my MMO habits have occasionally spiralled out of control, but I don't regret the experiences.

I still play a ton of MMORPGs, but I mostly stick to Final Fantasy 14 these days. I find some of its more monotonous grinds, like Eureka or Bozja, more endearing as time goes on. The open world mobs and social atmosphere remind me of old-school MMO design, and I can't help but miss some of the online worlds I abandoned decades ago.

Some of those games have long since shut down, while others are still chugging along. It's nice to see some of the titans live on somehow, but I'm always pleasantly surprised when I hear someone mention Priston Tale or another early '00s MMORPG like it. When you start naming MMORPGs, it feels like everyone has a story to tell, and I love seeing how people light up when they hear their favorite mentioned.

So now I want to know, how well-versed are you on the subject of MMORPGs? Could you identify one just based on a town name or vague feature description? Based on our shared taste, I know you've sat through worse, so I believe in you.

When I think about my favourite-ever RPGs, more often than not the memories that rush to the front of my mind aren't of the stories, or the spells, or what build I made. It's the companions I remember—the loveable sidekicks whose interjections and banter fill the world with personality.

Whether you're grilling them about their past, looking nervously to see if they approve of your moral choices, or watching them save your ass in a fight, they're the bedrock of so many great moments and adventures.

It stands to reason, then, that when you see a picture of an RPG companion, it should immediately bring to mind the game it's from—right?

Can you believe it? Stardew Valley celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, and we're still talking about free updates to the farming sim that don't involve overpriced DLC or unnecessary sequels. I've learned to simply not listen when creator Eric Barone insists he's done working on the valley, but I'm not complaining.

Quite the opposite, really. I'm elated we're getting Stardew Valley 1.7, and despite establishing my millionth agricultural empire after the update's announcement, I still feel like there's so much I haven't seen. That's partially why I decided to cultivate my own Stardew Valley quiz for the anniversary. I want to know how y'all stack up to my random sampling of knowledge around the farming sim's lore, mechanics, and secrets.

Though it was tempting to grill you in a time trial of villager likes and dislikes, I decided that's too easy for the most hardcore farmers. Instead, I'm opting for something a little more comprehensive to get you really rooting around in that almanac of a brain.

Love it or hate it, DLC is as core to PC gaming these days as a mouse and keyboard. From overpriced cosmetics to sprawling expansions, it's ubiquitous no matter what your preferred genres or publishers.

It's not always easy to keep track of, though. How often have you loaded up an old game and been surprised by a load of DLCs you never even knew came out? Or bought a GOTY edition and been confused by a whole mess of extras bundled in?

You can consider our latest quiz a bit of brain training for moments like those, because this week we're testing you on all things downloadable and… uh, content-y. For each of the 20 questions, you just have to identify which game a particular DLC was released for—and I've even made it multiple choice to give you more of a fighting chance.

Be warned: it starts out nice and gentle, but by the end even the most diehard of PC gaming veterans will be sweating. If anyone can get a full 20/20, I'll be very impressed indeed.

It's almost time for another game from the series that brought you decades of cheeky itchy, tasty references and more movie spin-offs than I can count. Resident Evil Requiem is out at the end of this month, and just when I thought I was done with the series, it finds a way to claw me back in. Oh, Leon.

Just kidding, I'm totally there for the zombie guts and gore and not Leon 'hot uncle' Kennedy. In all seriousness, Requiem had me far more intrigued after Capcom's last showcase when director Koshi Nakanishi mentioned its undead would "retain characteristics from when they were alive." It got me thinking a little more on the iconic ghouls across the series and how they've evolved in not just Resident Evil, but in other games, too.

Which led me here, making this quiz on undead videogame monsters as one more way to pass the time until I'm reunited with my real love, Leon. Zombies.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, if something looks like it should be dead but it's alive and piloted by some sort of ancient curse, mutant fungus, or unknown pathogen, then it's a zombie. Or it's at least zombie adjacent. A distant cousin of the undead, if you will.

For as long as there has been damage in videogames, there have always been the humble healing items. Bandages, mushrooms, herbs. If you can consume it, you can probably regain health with it. I'm a fan of the classics, though, which is why the simple potion is my all-time favourite.

It's the best one! Stick anything you like in a glass jar and boom. Health regeneration? Red potion. Stamina? Green potion. Mana? Blue. It's an all-timer communicator of all things digital health and wellbeing. You can stick absolutely anything in one, as well, which can lead to some delightfully niche potion creations. There's a reason why there are dozens of potion-crafting games and like, zero bandage-crafting games. Blech.

But do you know your potions well enough to be able to guess which 10 videogames the following belong to? A lot of them are your bog-standard healing numbers, but there are a few left-field ones I've chucked in to mix it up a little bit. The PC Gamer team did pretty well when I tested it out on them before unleashing it on you lovely folk, so let's hope you can do just as well.

Ahh, Valentine's Day. A celebration of love and an excuse to eat a mountain of adorable little heart-shaped chocolates regardless of relationship status. It's a day all about that one person in your life you can't live without, your soulmate.

Well, I say that videogame characters deserve that too. And who's to say we can't be the ones to be their forever partner? Companionship and romance has been a theme in games for ages. Mass Effect gave me a hot awkward alien cop. Stardew Valley let me try and fix a depressed alcoholic. Saints Row 4 let me boink my way through my entire crew—except Ben King, of course.

But who is YOUR destined videogame beau? Who is the right one to grow old and grey with? I've lined up seven eligible singletons who I believe to be some of PC gaming's biggest icons. All you've gotta do is answer eight questions as honestly as you can—first date ideas, music choices, the classics—and I'll tell you which one is your true videogame soulmate.

Something I've always admired about Steam reviews is how incredibly concise they can be. When I review a game I sit there for hours, punching away at my keyboard and racking up word counts in the mid 1,600s. Then I go look at Steam reviews and see people getting my exact points across in a single sentence.

To celebrate these one-line heroes, these poets of Steam, I've made a little quiz based on their one-line reviews. (For the third time, actually—you can try out Part 1 and Part 2 if you like.) I'll show you a short review and all you need to do is guess what game it's from.

What game is this Steam review from?

Have you heard? There's a Baldur's Gate TV show coming, headed up by Craig Mazin of Chernobyl and The Last of Us fame. That's either great news or terrible news depending on which precise Larian developer you are, but either way it's a significant enough occasion to warrant marking, if you ask me.

I decided to mark it with a quiz. But which quiz? We've had BG3 quizzes before, and the game is so dog-eared from repeat playthroughs by fans that it's difficult to come up with something truly challenging.

Then it hit me: gnomes. Gnomes are great; they're literally just weird little guys, and BG3's gnome characters are some of its finest. So here it is: the definitive, be-all and end-all quiz about the gnomes of Baldur's Gate 3. Warning: it's actually quite hard.

I play far too many games with a competitive ranked mode. I'm not sure why I subject myself to the horrors that unfold in these games, but I do, so rather than question all of my life choices, I've decided to lean into it.

So here I am, asking all of you whether you can decipher the game purely by its competitive ranked logos, while simultaneously creating an opportunity for all this information that takes up far too much of my brain to be put to good use. I knew it'd come in handy somehow.

Many of the rank badges will look very similar—eerily similar, even—but I have thrown a couple of curveballs in there to spice things up and add a bit of much-needed variety to the long list of bronze/silver/gold emblems. I'm interested to see whether this is just common knowledge or an early warning sign, so let me know how you did in the comments!

In the 1980s and early 1990s if you wanted a videogame with a decently written story, adventure games were the only place to find them. Back then RPGs were mostly dungeon crawls, or full of olde worlde thee-and-thou guff. Immersive sims didn't exist. Visual novels were rarely translated into English. Other genres would give you a paragraph of text and a pat on the back, then send you on your way.

Because point-and-click adventures evolved out of text adventures they brought some of text's wordiness with them. When you wanted to adapt a book to a videogame, whether it was The Hobbit or The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, adventure games were the way to do it.

Studios like Infocom, LucasArts, and Sierra valued characters, settings, and themes more than anyone else. Of course to talk to those characters, explore those settings, and understand those themes first you'd have to solve the puzzles. Adventure games were infamous for gating progress with puzzles that made sense to their creators, but could only be solved by a hivemind of players bashing their heads against them or a call to the help line. Fortunately those times are largely behind us, and instead you can relive the days when we broke our brains on the Discworld adventure game in the more convenient form of a multiple-choice quiz.

I love a classic videogame dungeon. Give me dark caves and dripping ceilings. Give me puzzle doors and weird keys. Give me traps under every flagstone and monsters in every room.

The best dungeons are burned into my brain as some of my favourite levels of all time, lurking forever in the shadows of my memory like a gang of 2d4 skeletons. But how well do you remember your years of excursions in the underworld?

Our latest quiz tests exactly that, challenging you to match each ominously titled dungeon to its game of origin. Only the kind of seasoned adventurer who knows their Underearth from their Underdark and their Dredmor from their Deadmines will prevail.

It's multiple choice, so even when you're stumped you can at least make a guess—but remember that down in the dark, giving the wrong answer to a riddle can have dire consequences…

Last year I made a quiz all about recognizing a game logo from just a single letter—and yes, I did all 26 letters of the alphabet. While I was laboriously putting that quiz together I noticed something interesting: a lot of games use a very stylized letter A in their logo.

There are several logos where the A has someone standing inside it, a few with eyes or a face, and some shaped like an element from the game itself. I guess it's just a just a pleasantly flexible letter that designers can have a little fun with.

So, I put together another letter quiz, and this time it's all about the letter A. I'll show you an A from a game logo, you type in what you think the game's name is. Don't worry, there aren't 26 of them this time. Let me know how you did in the comments!

OK, I admit it: I played a ton of XCOM 2 again over the holiday break and now I can't stop thinking about it.

In my defence, it's certainly a game that still feels as relevant now as it ever did. People still speculate on a possible XCOM 3 daily online, and the flood of imitators has only gotten bigger the longer the series has remained dormant. Personally I think I'll be waiting with baited breath all year to find out when I can get my hands on cheekily named spiritual successor Star Wars Zero Company.

So an XCOM quiz doesn't feel too self-indulgent or out of nowhere… right?

I knew it had to be more than just a smattering of trivia, however. PC Gamer's readers are some of the most diehard XCOM fans on the internet—you lot need a real challenge. So here, I've got one for you: do you know the outcome of every single alien autopsy in XCOM 2?

For each alien type, you just have to pick out which of the four options is one of the unlocks gained from dissecting it in Tygan's lab. Where a particular autopsy yields multiple results, I've just picked one, and I have included elements from the Alien Hunters DLC and the War of the Chosen expansion.

Getting all 23 answers right is a test on par with turfing Advent off Earth. If any of you can manage it, you'll prove yourself a true expert on one of the best strategy games ever made.

My first job covering videogames was a mid-2000s internship at a website dedicated to cheat codes, tips, and walkthroughs. My job was to read the user submissions and determine which were genuine cheats or secrets, and which were schoolyard rumors, hoaxes, or insults that had been indiscriminately lobbed at me through an internet form because someone was bored and Twitter didn't exist yet.

As you can guess, I read a lot of "yo momma" jokes and not many legit tips, but I did go looking for corroboration of even outlandish claims, because you never knew. Back then, new games weren't immediately autopsied by dataminers, and their secrets weren't comprehensively catalogued on wikis and YouTube.

All we had were GameFAQs writers, official Prima guides, hearsay, and whatever we could verify directly. Now and then I wrote to publishers to ask if they'd just tell us if there were any cheats in their new game—sometimes they did!

The website I worked for is long gone, and cheat codes aren't nearly as big a thing as they used to be. I miss 'em! So here's a quiz dedicated to classic cheats, console commands, and secrets from the '90s through the 2010s.

There sure are a lot of blocks in Minecraft, huh? Some are basic, like dirt, gravel, or wood, but it doesn't take long to start encountering more exotically named blocks like "Horn Coral," "Pink Terracotta," and "Mossy Cobblestone."

While perusing the list of 700 or so Minecraft blocks earlier today—this is the sort of thing I do on my lunch break—I thought the names of some of them sounded quite a bit like the fanciful monikers given to luxury paint colors. Tell me a block called "Cyan Terracotta" doesn't also sound like a paint color you'd find at Dulux or Farrow & Ball or some other fancy-schmancy paint company.

Us Total War fans are eating good at the moment; we've got Total War: Medieval 3, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, and a hefty End Times update for Total War: Warhammer on the way. These all might still be a ways off, but it's exciting to know there are big Total War games on the horizon and, however fun Pharoah Dynasties was, no more of these small saga games.

The thing is, it also makes me sad, because I remember what we've lost along the way. Besides Shogun 2's Fall of the Samurai, Three Kingdoms is my favorite Total War, a masterful marriage of history and myth with excellent battles, character mechanics, and the most in-depth diplomacy and spying system Creative Assembly ever attempted.

The game stopped receiving support after a sequel was announced, but that was years ago now, and it's since been speculated and inferred through leaks that the second Three Kingdoms game was likely cancelled around the time the studio underwent layoffs, ending a number of projects. Sad times.

That said, Three Kingdoms is still an utterly brilliant game I'm always up for celebrating. With this Total War quiz, I'm going to see how many Three Kingdoms characters you can name based on their in-game portrait art. Some are pretty famous (and you might even be able to guess if you know much about the Three Kingdoms period), while others you may struggle with unless you've put a similarly unhealthy number of hours into the game as I have.

Doom sorta sounds like Dune, doesn't it? The words are quite similar. And... that's it. That's the entire basis for the first PC Gamer quiz of 2026. Sorry. I'll make more of an effort for the rest of the year, I promise.

The fact that Doom and Dune sound alike isn't the end of the similarities, though. They're both cherished science fiction series, they're both books, movies, and games, and they both feature a protagonist who wears armor that might be full of bodily fluids. So despite the paper-thin premise, this is actually a great idea for a quiz! Right?

That's pretty much a wrap on 2025, but we're not letting the year slip away without taking one more fond look back. No, not at the best games of the year—we've already done our GOTYs—but at the best patch notes of the year.

Every game, no matter how much we love it, needs a little post-launch work, and sometimes the little bugs and glitches a game ships with can be kinda funny. Funnier still, occasionally, are the solutions to the problems.

What a time to be alive. There are so many film and TV adaptations that when we take a rare break from playing games we can watch movies and shows about the games we were just playing!

2025 was another big year for videogame adaptations: the movies took us to Minecraft, Until Dawn, and Five Nights at Freddy's (again), and streaming series included The Last of Us, Splinter Cell, Devil May Cry, Twisted Metal, Castlevania, and Fallout. Whew! That's a lot to watch.

So... how many shows and movies based on games did you watch this year? Enough to pass a test? God, I remember when Total War: Warhammer only had 11 Legendary Lords. Now we're somehow at 105. When did that happen?? Time flies when you're having fun, I guess. With the announcement of Total War: Warhammer 40k, it really feels like we're moving into the End Times for Total War: Warhammer. No, really; Creative Assembly literally announced the apocalypse as a DLC alongside Medieval 3. We really are eating good at the moment.

With the OG necromancer, Nagash, stepping back onto the scene to flood the world with undeath in an attempt to hold back the tides of Chaos, plus his Mortarchs gathering to his side, we're really grinding towards a conclusion. It's been a long road, but this is certainly the beginning of the end. What better way to celebrate than with a Total War quiz?

Now, having put over 3,000 hours into Total War: Warhammer—I'm genuinely unsure how that happened—I can name all of the Legendary Lords in the game. But can you? I'm throwing down the gauntlet, and just like the End Times, there'll be a ticking clock as you race to name all 105 in the game.

Just to preface, this list doesn't include Gotrek and Isabella Von Carstein, who were LLs but became Legendary Heroes later on, but it does include the two still unplayable Legendary Lords in the game (though obvs I'm not telling you their names).
