Magic 2015 - Duels of the Planeswalkers review

Tom Senior at

What have they done? For years the Duels of the Planeswalker series has produced limited but satisfactory versions of the classic card duelling game, Magic: The Gathering. The ballooning success of Hearthstone makes this a great time to introduce new players to the complex, highly competitive king of the genre. Instead we get Magic 2015, a clunky, under-featured sequel compromised by microtransactions.

Magic 2014 — Duels of the Planeswalkers review

The Duels of the Planeswalkers games have always been a bit of a gateway drug for Magic: The Gathering. They’re an economically-responsible way to get a taste of the card game, but they’ve always strayed far and away from being a form that actually captures the magic of creating and testing decks. With the addition of sealed play, Magic 2014 is finally trying to be more than just a noob-friendly introduction to M:TG.

Wizards of the Coast is building excitement for the launch of Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers with a new gameplay trailer that highlights their flair for the dramatic and the addition of sealed play.

For those of you uninitiated with Magic: The Gathering, the new Sealed Play mode is a huge addition. Players will open virtual booster packs and build decks from the 84 random cards that they receive. Sealed play was previously exclusive to real-life Magic and Magic: The Gathering Online and will give you a way to experience the utter ecstasy that is opening a pack of cards—minus the new card smell.

Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers announced, features lady with fire for hair

Wizards of the Coast have announced the latest edition of their Magic: Duels of the Planeswalkers collectible card-battling series. Named, inevitably, Magic 2014, the game boasts of "10 brand new decks, 15 new encounters, 10 new puzzle challenges", in addition to a new game mode and the chance to digitally interact with Magic's new line of cards before they're immortalised in cardboard later in the year. By the looks of it, this doesn't appear to as major an upgrade as the one between Magic 2012 and 13, unless that new mode is particularly revolutionary.

The announcement of a new 2013 edition means more decks, game types, and cards to explore for new and experienced players alike.
