third person platformer

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West hits PC, with a stick

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West hails from 2010, an era of over-enthusiastic bloom effects, when Uncharted 2 ruled as the go-to model for third person platforming. It's prescriptive clambering sections may lack the fluidity of the Prince of Persia and Uncharted games that inspired them, and the stick-heavy combat is reminiscent of Beyond Good and Evil, but it is set in a glowing, colourful post-apocalypse that warrants exploration, especially at a budget price.

Psychonauts gets Steam achievements, is still great

A surprise Steam update for the wonderful Psychonauts has arrived, adding Steam achievements and cloud saves. The update also tweaks the criminally annoying Meat Circus section that had players tiptoeing along tightropes a hundred feet off the ground, having to start again with every fall. It was the worst part of an otherwise fantastic game. It will also be ported over to Macs, if you're into that sort of thing.

Psychonauts was the last title from Tim Schafer's Double Fine studio before they stopped making games for the PC. That makes us sad. But as last memories are rarely as funny and bizarre as Psychonauts' mental worlds.

Alice: Madness Returns trailer features knives and apocalyptic butterflies

American McGee's Alice was a strange, strange game. It put a macabre and often disturbing twist on the Alice in Wonderland tale. Judging from the brand new trailer, the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns will be just as warped and brilliant as the original.
