Legend of Grimrock 2 introduces Ratlings, a new playable race

Andy Chalk at

There are few creatures more ubiquitous in RPGs than rats, but it's not often we get the opportunity to play as one. And maybe calling it an "opportunity" is a bit of a stretch, but however you want to look at it, you'll be able to do it, more or less, in Legend of Grimrock 2, which today unveiled an all-new playable race known as "Ratlings."

Battlefield Hardline unveils 12-minute single-player trailer and new "Rescue" multiplayer mode

Andy Chalk at

EA's Battlefield games, generally speaking, aren't known for the strength of their single-player campaigns, and Battlefield Hardline looked set to stick to that tradition when it was first revealed as a multiplayer cops-and-robbers blast-fest. But EA seems determined to make single-player a relevant part of the experience, and the 12 minutes gameplay trailer released today suggests that it might actually be able to pull it off.

Unofficial Minecraft convention disappears with the money

Andy Chalk at

Mineorama, the Minecraft convention scheduled to take place in mid-July that was canceled at the last minute—and with more than $500,000 spent on advance tickets—insisted that it was "not a scam," and that another event would be scheduled to take its place. But many ticket buyers worried that they had indeed been conned, and it's starting to look very much like that's exactly what has happened.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel trailer teases a cannon-packing Claptrap

Andy Chalk at

Watching this new "Last Hope" trailer leaves me with a powerful urge to say, "Meet the new Borderlands—same as the old Borderlands," but that's not really a surprise, is it? Nor is it even something to complain about, really. After all, there are worse things you could end up with than more Borderlands, especially when Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel lets you dress Claptrap up like a heavily-armed, hat-wearing pirate ship.

The 4 best free image editing tools on PC for screenshots and gifs

PC Gamer at

At PC Gamer, our screenshots folders are constantly full to bursting with screens of whatever game we're currently playing. Our colleagues at TechRadar recently rounded up the best free image editing software, and we've listed the ones we like to use below. These are our favorite utilities for making gifs, batch editing tons of screenshots, and making simple, quick edits that don't need the power of Photoshop.

Phil Savage at

Thanks to the way the upcoming Unreal Tournament is being developed, anyone with an Unreal Engine subscription can access the latest build of the game. That means anyone with an UE4 subscription can also compile a build of the game. And, should someone do that, we'd all be able to hop on board and have a play. Guess what: someone has done that.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 release date revealed, new features explained

Ben Griffin at

PES 2015’s marquee feature this year is PES ID, which makes the world’s star players move and act like they do in real life. Does that mean Robben will be doing lots of crying then? #footballjoke

Konami have given over 1000 players bespoke animations and playing styles - from Ronaldo’s unique running to Neymar’s silky tricks. PES ID applies to teams as well. The most famous clubs adopt their real-life game plans, whether that’s Barcelona’s tiki-taka, Chelsea’s counter-attacks, or Stoke’s ‘hoof it to the big man’ approach.

Microsoft clarifies Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity: "the deal has a duration"

Phil Savage at

"Exclusive" was once a word that had a meaning. Now, it can mean basically anything. And so when Microsoft announced yesterday that Rise of the Tomb Raider—Crystal Dynamics' upcoming sequel to Lara's 2013 reboot—would be available "Holiday 2015, exclusively on Xbox", people were 1) annoyed, and 2) suspicious. When Microsoft said exclusive, did they really mean exclusive? No. No, they didn't.

Biggest of all for FIFA 15's first new-gen, Ignite-engine-powered PC showing are the additions to Ultimate Team. Now players can challenge a friend's Ultimate Team over five games through the new Friendly Seasons mode. There's also the ability to create 'concept squads' by experimenting with players you don't own, and purchase loan players from EA Sports' Football Club catalogue.

Dean Hall emerged on stage to announce a Playstation 4 version of DayZ. More than that, Hall took time to explain how the console port of the popular survival game would also enhance the existing PC version.

In 'weirdest thing to happen EA's Gamescom press conference' news, Peter Moore was revealed to know what twerking was. The second weirdest thing was undoubtedly the reveal of Bioware Austin's Shadow Realms. It's a 4v1 asymmetrical online RPG, with a modern setting and an episodic release plan. And, as a Bioware RPG, it'll have a heavy focus on story.

Dragon Age: Inquisition trailer reveals the enemies of Thedas

Phil Savage at

EA's Gamescom stream was... er, well let's just say it was having "netcode" issues. As such, many—myself included—missed the majority of Bioware's on-stage Dragon Age: Inquisition demo. Not to worry, instead we get something a little more dramatic: a look at some of the monsters you'll be facing throughout the game. No, endless buffering is not one of them.
