DICE announced today that it will finally begin rolling out Battlefield 4’s Platoons feature on February 27. Similar to the feature in Battlefield 3, BF4's platoons will allow you to create (if you have a high enough rank) or join clans of up to 100 members, and coordinate battles for you and your teammates.
Can you guide your bro through a Metal Slug styled bropocalypse without brosploding? Broforce asks all the important questions, like can Bronan the Brobarian stand up to a world full of nameless goon armies with a single blade? Which of the 15+ available bros will deliver the most efficient pastiche of '80s and '90s action cinema? Is it Rambro or Brobocop? I'm partial to John McClane send-up, Bro Hard, but each to their own. You say brotato, I say brotato.
A free "brototype" version of this jolly run 'n gun goon-massacre sim is playable in your browser on the Broforce site, which is a good way to find out whether or not you like it enough to pay to get into the beta. Access is available for $15 on the Humble Store, and is due to pop up on Steam Early Access next month. A full release is expected in summer according to a message sent over by Free Lives' new publishing partners, Devolver Digital. There's a moderately exciting video, too, detailing new characters and upcoming multiplayer modes, which you'll find right here.
With Planetside 2's World Domination Series Preseason 2 event now well underway, the game masters at Sony Online Entertainment all already announcing rules tweaks to counteract what the developer calls "some undesired player behavior." It seems battles in the massive MMO shooter haven't reached the desired white-hot level of intensity since the WDS Preseason kicked off on Friday.
I spawn into every life of Strike Vector like a missile out of hell. Jets flaring, blurred periphery, hurtling toward a futuristic metal landscape. Other Vectors come for me, firing rockets and mini guns, dropping mines, zapping me from miles away with plasma snipers. I need to pull up, maybe slow down for a better shot and risk being an easy target. I need to figure it out quick or I’ll crash into something and explode.
New investment in the developer behind upcoming MMO Firefall will see the free-to-play shooter officially launch this year, according to an announcement from Red 5 Studios. The $23 million in additional funds arrive thanks to some help from both new and already established investors in the game.
We usually get a little metal with our mayhem whenever a new Strike Vector trailer surfaces, and the latest video doesn't disappoint. The indie, ship-based shooter has released some new footage to go along with a call to arms for any pilots eager to try out the game in an open beta set to start in early January.
Things were so much easier in the days of DOS. Actually, no, they were quite a bit more fiddly, but there is something pure and exciting about giving your computer typed commands, rather than wrestling with a Bill Gates-approved interface. Muri - "a simple DOS-like platform shooter inspired by Duke Nukem and Commander Keen" - takes us back to those halycon days. There's no XP system, no Twitter integration, no micro-transactions. In their place: a Samus-esque main character who looks a bit like a rabbit, an "optional turbo mode", and music that will be stuck in my head all day. Catch the lovely announcement trailer after the break.
With BioShock Infinite it only makes sense to have more questions than answers. Thankfully the launch trailer for the shooter's new DLC—Burial at Sea, Episode One—fills that role nicely. We see the expected, and very stylish, film noir vibe dialed up to 11, but there's also a sense of dread lurking under the surface.
Indie shooter Natural Selection 2 will get a world championship. The FPS/RTS hybrid's community-led project has raised the full $30,000 it said it needs to bring 24 players to Cologne, Germany and stage an eSports event to determine a winning team. An ambitious goal, to be sure, but the money is now there to make it happen, according to the fan effort's official crowdfunding site.
Browser-based shooter Quake Live will be reintroduced as a standalone, downloadable game by the end of the year. An official update on its forums cites changes in the way plugin-based games are supported by popular browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
Hawken's latest beta patch is live, dropping a new mech and a new co-op game mode onto the mech shooter's dystopian landscape. Code-named Predator, the new mech has some decidedly asymmetrical tactics and weapons at its disposal, according to information on the "Invasion" update released by developer Adhesive Games.
The latest Humble Weekly Sale features the colorful and exclusive launch of what new retro shooter Intake, which indie developer Cipher Prime Studios calls the “polychromatic love child of Dr. Mario and Ikaruga.” An arcade-style shooter, Intake joins three other Cipher PC titles in this week’s offering.
Trying to describe Ring Runner is a bit like trying to explain Twitter to Wurzel Gummidge. It's an action RPG, kinda, but also a top-down shooter set in space. For all I know it's a rhythm game too, but let's stop before our brains explode too much. Triple.B's game features a ton of procedural generation, hundreds of abilities and dozens of ships - and now you can pay what you want for it on IndieGameStand. You have just under 89 hours left to do so.
Hawken devs are looking to roll out official leaderboards for the free-to-play game in November, according to Adhesive Games' latest community updates. The move is part of a plan by developers to make the mech shooter a home for competitive as well as casual pilots, says game designer Chris Vance.
Crytek’s free-to-play military FPS, Warface, has just received a free update called the “Sneak Phase” that adds in new maps, female soldiers, and a few other goodies for those who’ve managed to find a way into the closed beta.
If you were worried that Hawken and its giant stompy robots just weren't big enough, fret no further. Though a little later than we expected, the mech-piloting game today got even bigger with its newest update, Ascension, bringing on all sorts of additions and changes—from new game modes all the way through to fashionable Oculus Rift support.
If you missed the first stage of Firefall's open beta, consider this your heads-up that the second is going on right now. What's Firefall? It's a free-to-play MMORPG/shooter/gratuitous jetpack type game, and it involves words like 'battleframe', 'melding' and 'crystite'. More details have firefallen beneath the break.
Crunchy, bullet-ridden, free-to-play mech shooter Hawken is currently getting a major overhaul that may go live by the end of the month, according to a recent update by Adhesive Games producer Jason Hughes. Current goals for the in-beta game include new matchmaking and customization tools as well as the integration of bots to training modes for new players, among many other proposed changes.
The original Rise of the Triad is a relic of the early ages of PC gaming. It didn’t ask you to aim up or down, quick save every few minutes, or worry about fiddling with graphics settings. It did, however, beg you to explode, shoot, and instagib everything.
Interceptor Entertainment’s 2013 remake is an earnest love letter to the original—warts and all. There are no quick saves, for example. There’s no regenerating health. The game doesn’t even have actual cutscenes aside from the intro. What it does have is an undeniable charm. This is Quake on steroids. Things move faster, explosions are bigger, and the giblets are greater.
Wolfenstein: The New Order has been delayed until 2014, according to a new interview with Bethesda Softworks marketing VP Pete Hines at Polygon. The MachineGames re-boot had been planned for a late-2013 release, but developing simultaneously for current and next-generation consoles has played a role in the game's launch schedule, according to Hines.
