47,500 signatures (and counting) for Grand Theft Auto 5 PC petition

Phil Savage at

A petition to cajole Rockstar into confirming a PC port of their upcoming Grand Theft Auto 5 has received over 47,500 signatures. The petition, created by Mike Juliard, is hoping to collect 100,000 votes of support. Based on the current rate of growth, that shouldn't take long.

Rockstar: Hot Coffee controversy was "draining and upsetting"

Omri Petitte at

From the "people are still talking about this?" files today comes an interview by The Guardian with Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser that touched upon Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' Hot Coffee scandal. The ensuing media scrutiny and negative pressure wound up "draining and upsetting" company members facing "a tough time" keeping relationships with the press civil.

Grand Theft Auto 5 trailer 2 shows planes, trains, and dogs

Tom Hatfield at

It's time! The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto V has finally arrived. No, there's still no mention of a PC version, but since every previous GTA game has eventually found its way to PC, we're fairly confident this one will too. The new trailer spotlights Michael, Trevor and Franklin, the game's three protagonists, but also includes some new info.

GTA 5's multiple protagonists explained

Tom Hatfield at

Excited by the prospect of multiple protagonists in Grand Theft Auto V? Or just confused as to how they're going to work? Either way, you're in luck. While we learned some of the details from Game Informer last week, another preview by Guardian brings new info on Rockstar's three leading men and how you'll be switching between them.

But nope, still no mention of a PC version.

Torrent of GTA V details unveiled; still no confirmation of PC edition

Shaun Prescott at

While we wait patiently for Rockstar to confirm or rule out a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, the publisher has delivered a huge dump of info overnight via the December edition of Game Informer magazine.

The game will literally be the "biggest" in the series, with GTA V art director Aaron Garbut telling GI that the world is bigger than those in Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas and GTA IV combined.

GTA 5 trailer delayed, have these posters instead

Tom Sykes at

Hurricane Sandy has derailed Rockstar's plans to release a new trailer of the game that's coming to consoles 'Spring 2013' and to PC '*shrugs shoulders*', but as a consolation prize they did unleash two - two! - GTA V posters that are absolutely loaded with Clues. As revealed on Game Informer, the first shows that there will be at least two women in the game (one of them wearing a Love Fist T-shirt), while the second shows an angry guy with an angry dog - an angry dog called Chop. You may have seen the second image somewhere before, but the first is all new.

GTA 5 release date possibly leaked - but where's the PC version?

Sam Leung at

Photos of promotional posters for Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V have surfaced on the Polish website GTA-Five.pl, indicating a release date of spring 2013. No particular surprise there, even if the reliability of this source remains unclear. But what is a bit disconcerting is that the PC is not listed as a platform.

The photos, which appeared on the website last week before being picked up by Kotaku, advertise the release of the game on Xbox 360 and PS3 and bear a European ratings label, but there is no mention of PC at all. Let's hope Rockstar aren't going to do a Red Dead Redemption on us all over again.

Play Grand Theft Auto IV as an elephant. Or a dragon. Or with the Slender Man.

Chris Thursten at

Perhaps crime doesn't pay - but what if you were an elephant? Or a dragon? Or a nightmare creature? In those cases, you may have an entirely different concept of what 'pay' means. The Slender Man, I'm guessing, does not take a wage. Dragons are hoarders. Elephants just want to get them some fruit, bark and leaves. For sixteen hours a day. Or else they'll starve to death.

The point is, Liberty City is a very different place if you're running over pedestrians as anyone other than a traumatised war veteran. GTA IV modder indirivacua has a talent for, well, adding psychotic safari animals and mythological creatures to Grand Theft Auto IV.

Max Payne 3 update adds multiplayer stats, improves load times, battles cheaters

Rob Edwards at

Rockstar have released an update for Max Payne 3, introducing the Multiplayer Card feature, improved load times and anti-cheat measures.

The Multiplayer Card feature displays player stats, while improvements to the party system mean party leaders can now pull their friends out of existing games and into new ones. According to Rockstar this update also "enables Payne Thresholds, which will go live next week across all three platforms following the release of the free Disorganized Crime Pack DLC".

Max Payne 3 DLC to add new multiplayer modes, map and black and white mode for free

Rob Edwards at

Rockstar Games have announced that the next DLC pack for Max Payne 3 will see the grizzled, alcoholic gunman rendered in noir-ish black and white. The new Disorganized Crime Pack will give an even moodier look to the game, which is hardly sunshine and rainbows as it is.

GTA V revs up viral marketing engines

Richard Cobbett at

There's still no official release date for Rockstar's upcoming GTA V, but its sordid universe of gangs, violence and classic crime movies has already started leaking into our own. First on the viral marketing scene; praise Kifflom, for The Epsilon Program is back and... very similar to before from the looks of things, though careful use of robots.txt means the Internet Archive isn't allowed to confirm that. It has however now found Twitter as well as enlightenment, so that's probably a good thing to watch for any fresh GTA V related sites and shout-outs as Rockstar gets things rolling for 2012.

Max Payne 3 patch makes Max skinnier

Henry Winchester at

Rockstar Games have released their first patch for old man shooter Max Payne 3. Compatibility issues, crashes and mouse sensitivity and acceleration have all been fixed, and there are more patches in the pipeline. It also locks the game's aspect ratio, so if you were wondering why Max was looking a little portly it might have been because the game thought you were playing on a 14" CRT monitor.

Rockstar also say that they're aware of "a few outstanding issues including multiplayer cheaters and hackers", but that these will be fixed in a forthcoming patch. They aren't just any issues, they're outstanding issues.

See below for a complete list of the most recent fixes.

Max Payne 3 system requirements updated, new PC screenshots released

Tom Senior at

Max Payne 3 is about ready to hit the PC after a couple of weeks warming up on consoles. We'll get to take charge of Max make him dive point blank into walls this Friday. But what kind of framerate will we get as we send him sprawling into lampposts? What kind of resolutions can we expect to see as we send him and soaring over sheer drops? Rockstar have updated the Max Payne 3 system requirements with a few system profiles outlining the lowest and highest tested specs, and their recommended set ups. Get them below with two new PC screenshots.

Max Payne 3's Rockstar Pass DLC baldly goes

Henry Winchester at

Games about grumpy old slo-mo ex-cops are few and far between, which is why we're looking forward to Max Payne's third outing. But what if there's just not enough game?

Fortunately, Rockstar have alleviated our worries by announcing Max Payne 3's DLC plans. Over the summer and autumn of this year multiplayer DLC will trickle into the game, just as the rain trickles in through a leaky roof during the British summer time.

Grand Theft Auto V release date listed as "October 2012" in employee résumé

Tyler Wilde at

A Rockstar North employee apparently listed Grand Theft Auto V's release date as October 2012 in his CV and on LinkedIn. The mention of GTA V's release, which was noticed by Dave Oshry, has now been removed, but Joystiq grabbed a screen before it was taken down.

Grand Theft Auto IV video shows iCEnhancer 2.0 visual mod in action

Tom Senior at

Version 2.0 of the superb iCEnhancer mod for Grand Theft Auto IV is now freely available on creator Hayssam Keilany's site. Providing your PC can run it at more than a handful of frames per second, it'll turn Liberty City into the almost photorealistic version of pseudo-New York shown in the trailer above. The mod's creator is planning to release a "Natural" version soon, which could provide the more muted tones we've seen from previous versions of iCEnhancer. If you like the look of this, Keilany's also made a version of iCEnhancer for Skyrim. What do you think, time to install GTA IV again?

Max Payne 3 screenshots cause collateral damage

Tom Senior at

Cool guys don't look at explosions, or the pedestrians who happen to get caught up in them. "I'm a successful main character in a major action franchise. What of it?" says the expression on Max Payne's face. They were just going to their nearest internet cafe to look at screenshots of you, Max. They just wanted to see their favourite action hero not looking at explosions, now it is they who are not looking at explosions, because they are dead. YOU MONSTER.

Still it's nice to see Payne's back in his leather trench coat, shirt and tie combo. That's Classic Max chic. He's joined by his two other styles, Grizzly Commander Riker chic and Breaking Bad chic, in the new screenshots below.

Get your face in Max Payne 3!

Henry Winchester at

Max Payne 3 developers and publishers Rockstar games have announced a competition to get your mug in the multiplayer portion of the upcoming game. From today until January 13 10 random people a week who use the #MaxPayne3 hashtag on Twitter will be selected to send a photo for Rockstar's consideration. Of these 10, the two least ugly people will get their faces in Max Payne 3.

It’s a bit like that online dating site where only beautiful people are allowed access, only your chances of sleeping with a supermodel are greatly diminished. Unless they happen to play the game when it’s released in March and take a shine to your in-game noggin.

Max Payne 3's Gang Wars multiplayer mixes things up

Henry Winchester at

In an age of tacked-on multiplayer modes, Max Payne 3 aims to be different. Developers/publishers Rockstar have added a “Gang Wars” multiplayer mode which adapts to the play style of its players.

According to IGN, Gang Wars will feature the standard capture-the-flag style scenarios, with the twist that new scenarios are created on the fly. For instance, complete a drug-deal-gone-wrong (they always go wrong, don’t they?) mission as the dominant player and you’ll find a bounty on your head in the next mission. Win some territory in one round, and you’ll find yourself defusing bombs on it in the next.
