Rise of the Hutt Cartel

Rise of the Hutt Cartel review

The Old Republic’s first expansion delivers something that most players believed would arrive within six month’s of the game’s release: a meaningful expansion to the personal storylines that originally drew them to (and through) the game.

Rise of the Hutt Cartel adds a new planet for level 50 characters and extends the cap to 55. Depending on your faction, you’ll play a particular role in an unfolding drama on the Hutt world of Makeb, which is embroiled in civil war and on the brink of environmental catastrophe.

Star Wars: The Old Republic releases first expansion, Rise of the Hutt Cartel

Shamefully, I know very little about Star Wars. So maybe I'm off the mark when suggesting that surely the giant space slugs that are at the heart of The Old Republic's Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion could be easily dealt with using one giant silo of salt. Maybe from a salt planet. Does Star Wars have those? Maybe that's the Rise referred to in the title: their gooey insides bursting out and flooding the new planet of Makeb.

Or maybe not. However you resolve the new missions, Rise of the Hutt Cartel has now launched.

Star Wars: The Old Republic 2.0 trailer promises scum and villainy

Bioware have released a trailer for the now-live 2.0 update to Star Wars: The Old Republic. The update is titled "Scum and Villainy", which does make you wonder if old Obi Wan would have been quite as hard on Mos Eisley Spaceport if he'd seen the general chat on a modern MMO. Although perhaps "you will never find a more wretched hive of pettiness and spammers" would be more apposite.

Some say not all Hutts are evil. I say a race of fat, greedy space slugs can't get evil enough. That's not a tremor in the Force you're feeling, it's the rumble of a mobster gastropod rolling onto the planet Makeb with an invading army in Star Wars: The Old Republic's upcoming Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, which you can get a glimpse of in the new trailer BioWare released today.

Star Wars: The Old Republic will expand end game, add "organic" PvP and same sex romance

Phil Savage at

In a "State of the Game" address, SW:TOR's Jeff Hickman outlined Bioware's plans for the new year. As well as teasing the upcoming 1.7 update - "look forward to some interesting changes to a special PvP area" - and the previously announced Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion, he's addressed some of the pressing concerns of the community. That includes an increased focus on providing end game (or "elder") content, experiments with open world PvP and a reaffirming of the company's commitment to adding same sex romance.
