Primal Carnage

Steam's newest bundle is an Unreal deal

If I was nerdy enough to have a "favorite engine," it would probably be the Unreal Engine - not necessarily for its technical achievements (though you can't say it hasn't been pivotal in game development's innovation the past decade), but for its accessibility. The easy-breezy development kit has been especially kind to indies, and because of that, some brilliantly creative games have been built on the engine. Now Steam's flogging an Unreal Indie Bundle, and for $20, it's actually got a pretty admirable selection of games.

Primal Carnage wants you to Get to the Chopper in free DLC

Lukewarm Media announced today the first DLC for its outrageous multiplayer dino-thon Primal Carnage, craftily titled "Get to the Chopper," breaks out of its cage later this month. Presumably lacking musclebound Austrians politely reminding you to board flying contraptions naow, Get to the Chopper nevertheless adds a new mode for hungry, hungry dinosaurs and tiny, tiny humans to roar and Wilhelm scream at each other, respectively.

Primal Carnage beta impressions

We wrote Monday that the beta for humans-vs.-dinosaurs deathmatch Primal Carnage is now open to anyone who pre-orders the game. As an avid fan of raptors (which rank slightly lower than werewolves on the "Awesome Things That Rip Your Organs Out" scale) and also shooting things, I was anxious to get in and sink my teeth into some prehistoric mayhem.

Don't go into the long grass! Humans versus dinosaurs shooter Primal Carnage has roared into open beta, allowing you to jump into the action as a prehistoric predator or as food! Okay, to be fair, the food has guns, and they hurt. But that won't stop us. Oh no.

Primal Carnage: new footage of class-based dino-murdering indie shooter

Gun-toting mercs face down Jurassic horrors in this bonkers asymmetrical multiplayer game from Lukewarm Media. Palaeontologists may well lament the historically unlikely class-based reptile-on-human mayhem, but who else could spurn the spectacle of an amassed force of allied Tyrannosaurs, Dilophosaurs, Pteradons, Carnotaurs and, of course, Velociraptors crashing against an army of tooled-up hunters wielding everything from netguns to flame throwers? Who? Show me them and I will show you a lonesome and dilapidated people, not fit for this world and its gaudy pleasures.

Primal Carnage trailer: raptors maul, leap on, and bite faces off pathetic humans

The last time we posted about Primal Carnage was in 2010. At the time, all we got to see was a collection of animation demos created by independent development team Lukewarm Media. Their ill-advised experiments with prehistoric DNA have come a long way: Lukewarm has since found a publisher, and its multiplayer dinos vs. humans eat-em-up is almost ready for its beta test.
