Worried about your Game pre-order? EA suggest some alternatives

Owen Hill at

It's troubling time for UK video game retailers, Game. They've recently announced that no EA titles will be stocked in their stores after console-only snowboarder, SSX. The sad news applies to Gamestation stores too.

It brings up the thorny issue of pre-orders. Both Game and Gamestation offered exclusive content in exchange for early customer enthusiasm. Now all those DLC codes are getting lost within the internet, like tears in the rain.

As promised last week, EA have made efforts to resolve the situation. Specific websites have been set up with advice on where you can still purchase EA games and bag yourself some exclusive content. Predictably, Origin pre-orders are not affected by the debacle.

Just click the game name to get some advice: Mass Effect 3, FIFA Street, The Sims 3 Showtime, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13. Good luck with it all!

Mass Effect 3 will return to the Citadel with cut Mass Effect 2 missions

After the momentous events at the end of Mass Effect, it was surprising that the sequel didn't spend much time in the Citadel. Speaking to OXM, lead writer Mac Walters has said that the huge station that forms the galactic centre of government will form a bigger part of Mass Effect 3.

"There was a Mass Effect 2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first Mass Effect that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in Mass Effect 3," says Walters. "That's the nice thing about trilogies, sometimes you get a second chance." Hopefully it won't be a sequel to the Keeper scanning side quest.

Mass Effect 3 online pass hints at multiplayer mode

Mention of an 'online multiplayer pass' has been spotted by Eurogamer in an advert for the collector's edition of Mass Effect 3, strengthening rumours that Mass Effect 3 could feature a co-op mode when it's released in March next year.

Eurogamer previously reported that Bioware are working on a "standalone" four player co-op mode with "competitive elements". CVG cited a "reliable development source" as the origin of information they received suggesting that Mass Effect will get "original missions made for online," designed to be replayed over and over again. "We're exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises," BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka told Eurogamer. "It's always an idea we're interested in."

Owen got a chance to quiz associate producer Michael Gamble about the existence of a co-op multiplayer mode at Gamescom this year. No matter how hard Owen tried, Gamble remained evasive.

Mass Effect 3 Deluxe Edition exclusive to Origin, adds guns, outfits and a robot dog

If you're interested in buying the deluxe edition of Mass Effect 3, you'll have to get hold of it through EA's new digital download service, Origin. The N7 Deluxe Edition comes with a series of digital perks, including the N7 arsenal pack, which adds a selection of N7 weapons into the game, including a sniper rifle, a shotgun, an SMG and a special pistol. That pales in comparison to the main reason you'd want to pre-order, for a pet robotic dog that will keep Shepard company aboard the Normandy.
